Good food at great prices

Mmmmm yes, junk food before, during, after a show or just because you're in the hood. It's natural and pretty homemade feeling, so with that said, other than the baked goods, be patient. They have sandwiches, a few entrees and some fried appetizers like onion rings, fries and zucchini. There are nachos and sliders. Fake meat and fake cheese are here, too. Looking for dessert that's vegan- they are here, but not very tasty.

Cash only- hit up a nearby ATM first, but nothing here breaks the bank. Drinks in the cafe can be alcohol or non.

Expect to feel unhealthy after eating here, but you will have felt like you paid prices from a decade earlier. The fried zucchini was the best fried zucchini in DC because it used fresh zucchini and a thin batter rather than heavy coating. I liked the ginger soy dipping sauce, confirming their intention to have more of a tempura style to these zucchini slices.

The lasagna was alright, but tasted exactly like something a home cook could make. Nothing fancy, but good. Comes with bread- as though that's necessary.... The dessert is not really worth it. Order some vegan nachos instead. Sliders are cute. Dogs and seitan and tofu for the protein inclined.

Pros: Cheap, Homemade feel

Cons: Cash only, Slow service, Unhealthy

Great for before or after a show

This is located inside the Black Cat, which is a great music venue/bar. I always get excited when a band plays there because I know either beforehand or afterwards I'm going to get a great vegan meal. Even though this is inside the venue, you don't have to pay to enter--just tell them you are going to the cafe, which is off to the left of the main entrance. Cooks are always friendly, and will recommend food if you are wavering on what to get.

Pros: Fantastic prices, Hours, Menu

Cons: Cash Only

GREAT Late spot

It was a little confusing to find Food For Thought, and we were worried we'd be charged to enter, since we were carded, but once inside, we ordered, paid and were rewarded with quick and delicious late night vegan divey eats. my friend got a deep fried vegan chili dog and I ordered the vegan lasagna, and we got a piece of cake to split. The lasagna was awesome, but they were out of chili (it was well past midnight) so they gave us fries to make up for the mistake. Everything was wonderful except the cake. Don't bother.

It's definitely a dive, crowded, full of drunks, but as long as you're not looking for 4 star dining, then you'll enjoy it.

Pros: cheap, fast, tasty

Cons: crowded, confusing

Great food, low prices

This is a great, grungy place with low prices and excellent food. Their vegan lasagna was delectable---just as good as anything I've tasted at fancy vegan places in New York or Chicago. Their nachos were also excellent, with a good mix of veggies and tangy cashew cream vegan cheese. The only drawback is that they don't accept credit cards. Also, it's not the best place for dates, but it's good for a quick, cheap, tasty bite.

Pros: Taste, Prices

Cons: Not 100% vegetarian, Cash-only, Lack of decor
