Vancouver Vegan Gem! - Edit
From the moment I stepped into Folke, I was welcomed and provided with an exceptional vegan experience. I arrived at opening and the restaurant was having happy hour on the patio. This featured a smaller menu of items at a lower cost. This was perfect for me being a solo traveler and diner. Each dish was a work of art, made with care and featured layers of flavors. A true culinary delight! In addition to the amazing food, the staff was so kind and attentive and added positively to the dining experience. If you are vegan and in Vancouver this is a must try. I genuinely look forward to returning again someday.

The best vegan restaurant in Vancouver! - Edit
If you want to really dazzle prople with how good and how amazing vegan food can be, bring them to Folke on West Broadway. Their chefs are superbly skilled at creating flavorful menu items. We spluged on the Taster menu and it was better than any items I have had in ouir twide travels to New York, California, or Europe. They are good! How special to find this during our visits to YVR. Multiple course degustation of the highest standard and they now have a Michelin recommendation. We've been 3 times over last year even though it's pricey.

Best restaurant yet! - Edit
The menu descriptions were minimal so we ordered what our waiter recommended and everything was an absolute flavor delight. I hope to come back here every time the seasonal menu changes. Worth the trip from Seattle!

Tasting menu - Edit
Outstanding tasting menu which had even the omnivores pondering the potential of going vegan! The beet tartare had me finally understand what the fuss is about this sweet root vegetable! Good portion sizes, however even with this we were defeated by quantity at the end. Our only feedback would be to suggest letting diners know how many courses to pace themselves for, and perhaps one or two bean- or lentil-forward dishes on the tasting menu. (Perhaps it was hidden in the sauces?!)

Shared plates with an option for a tasting menu with or without wine pairings. Shared 4 dishes. The bread starter and mushroom dumplings were stand outs, but all were very good. My non-alcoholic gin and tonic was fabulous! Can’t wait to return to try the tasting menu!

Phenomenal Culinary Experience! - Edit
Wow, Wow, and Wow! What a truly phenomenal culinary experience! This is a fine dining restaurant that serves amazing food and fortunately for us, is also vegan. My husband and I had the Chef's Tasting with wine pairing while sitting at the counter looking in to the kitchen. Watching the chefs prepare our meal, as well as others, was so interesting. Silly as it sounds, it was like watching a choreographed ballet to create an amazing meal! Each dish was beautifully plated, incredibly delicious, with fresh local products, that were so tasty, satisfying and satiating. We were so full at the end of the tasting menu! The wine pairing was also so well thought out and each glass complimented the food perfectly! Each dish and glass of wine was presented with a brief explanation. Everyone of the staff were very kind and we had the good fortune to meet Pricilla and Chef Colin the owners, who both took the time to visit with us and made us feel very welcome in their beautiful restaurant! I definitely recommend this restaurant and we will be back next time we are in Vancouver, as we were visiting from Los Angeles. Thank you so much Stu from Good Dogs for recommending Folke to us!

Best Vegan Fine Dining in Van - Edit
I have been to Folke three times now and I can confidently say they have the best vegan food in Vancouver. The menu changes seasonally and the chefs and sommelier are super attentive and explain everything they put on the table. Honestly, compared to other fine dining experiences it is quite affordable for the tasting menu and the wine pairing. Enjoy the beautiful taste of seasonal produce and feel good because they also pay their workers fairly!

Way over priced. - Edit
Upscale vegan...yes. But even for upscale it was way over priced.
Read moreA beet costs approx 75 cents at the supermarket. The shared beet chooped up for two to eat was over $20.
The dumplings that were tiny for two were $25 there were five to share between two people. The tiny
Ramen bowl which probably would pass as an appetizer for a toddler was $24.
The ambiance was crowded and very noisy.
I've eaten ate many fine dining establishments. Folke attempts to pass as fine dining, but ends up only making patrons feel taken advantage of with their pocket books.
Pros: Tasty, Friendly staff, Good location
Cons: Over priced, Noisy, Very tiny portions

Fine Dining for Vegans - Edit
The fine dining options for vegans in Vancouver are limited to my knowledge. I’ve experienced Acorn and Nightshade and both were fantastic. I was really hoping for another upscale option and Folke is it!
Read moreEverything is vegan - hooray! No less than five people tended our table (three were chefs). I love chef tasting menus and always support because typically vegans don’t get to participate in chef tasting menus. Everything on the menu is seasonal and truly plant-based (no products, meat replacements, processed v cheeses ect) - just plants used creatively!
I took my mom for her birthday and we dined for 2 and a half hours. The tasting menu was no less than 12 courses. It’s hard to decide which my favorites were but I ferment veggies at home so the pickled and fermented veggies got my attention right away.
Another very cool thing which I wish every restaurant would do is they include a fair wage and benefits for their servers in the price of the food. No tipping. I talked to our server about this and she said she loves it because she can plan her rent/bills/play on a reliable salary and the interactions she has with customers now that she isn’t hustling for tips is more enjoyable and genuine.
Highly recommended!

Fine dinning at it’s vegan best - Edit
The wife and I overnighted in Vancouver on our way home from week on Cortes Island and took the opportunity to check out the recently opened Folke.
Read moreWhat a great choice, it’s upscale, fine dinning, but with that casual edge created by the family style share plates. It really is something that needs to be experienced, vegan or not.
We opted for the chef’s tasting menu, with the wife adding in the optional wine pairings. Be warned, it’s a seven courses of deliciousness which requires an appetite for sure.
First course was Beet Tartare with the oatmeal/rye sourdough griddle cake. That was followed by the chickpea tofu, that is a mind-trip - tasting like soca but with the mouth feel and texture of tofu. Next up was the dumplings that were an umami and textural delight. Batting clean up in the menu was the zucchini dish, and a masterpiece.
Given that is is basically just zucchini on the plate, I expected this to be my least favorite dish of the night; but boy was I wrong. The zucchini was expertly grilled to still have lots of crunch, but a deep caramelized browning. The dried zucchini and walnuts add some crunch and sweetness, the zucchini/wakame really intensifies the zucchini flavour and mint leaves added some freshness. The dish easily packed the flavour to match its plating.
Courses five and six were the turnip and chilled ramen. The turnips might have been my favourite dish. The ramen had a great chew to the noodles and lots of flavour. The meal was rounded out with the raspberry semifreddo.
To be fair, this was a bit of a pricey meal, but should be expected given that it’s in my mind a Michelin Star experience. The added bonus is that gratuity is included, so what you see is what you pay, period (in fact the Interac machine has no option for adding a tip).
We’ll be back next time we are in town.
Pros: Fine dining, and Vegan too!, Embraces a “what is fresh is what’s on the menu”, Delicious!

Fabulous vegan fine dining - Edit
Astonishingly good, creative, vegan fine-dining with warm and attentive service and an urbane ambiance. It opened only a few weeks ago and just might have become the best vegan restaurant in Vancouver, and one of the city's best restaurants of any cuisine. And the service-included philosophy is a lovely break from North America's undignified and inequitable tipping culture.
Read moreImprovements? Descriptions of the dishes in the menu, rather than as the dish is delivered, would benefit everyone: achingly cool though a four-word description is, many (those trying to lose weight or better control their diabetes, say) would appreciate knowing that 'tofu' isn't tofu but rather made from carbs. The music could have been more compatible with the serene enjoyment of excellent food. And the portion sizes, especially dessert: it would have been lovely to have been able to enjoy, not just admire, something so good.
But these are minor quibbles. Go. Eat. It's wonderful.
Pros: Fabulous vegan fine-dining, Service included — no tipping, Good service
Cons: Delphic menu descriptions, Small portion sizes, especially dessert

Taste Adventures Await - Edit
A group of us from Meatless Meetup went to Folke for their tasting menu ($75 p.p.) and sampled 12 dishes in total. Each dish was brought out and explained by the chef who created it:
Read more1) Stuffed sourdough fried bread with sunchoke butter
2) Beet salad with hazelnuts and endive shavings
3) Salad with radish, sesame, and umeboshi
4) Chickpea tofu and oyster mushrooms
5) Braised cabbage with breadcrumbs
6) Braised turnip with farro
7) Mushroom-leek dumplings
8) Spelt Ramen with gailan
9) Red Fife Orecchiette with walnut and fennel
10) Potato Dosa
11) Rhubarb fennel crumble dessert
12) Chocolate, oat mousse cake with cherry sauce
Unfair as it is, we often rate restaurants on how easy it would be to make a given dish ourselves. Folke's dishes are so complex, not only would you be unlikely to be able to replicate them at home, I dare you to even repeat the list of ingredients correctly after having the dish explained to you by the chef. (Hope I got the list above correct!)
Service was very attentive. Just before we sampled the first bite of each dish, a server was quick on the chef's heels to ask how it tasted.
Every dish was tasty, a complete surprise, and exceptional in its own way. The food or vegetable phobic among us would have a hard time at Folke, but for the rest of us, this restaurant offers a veritable taste adventure. Can't wait to try next season's menu.

Yum! Thanks for your review of our lovely experience at the new vegan Folke restaurant, Nancy. I do like their model of no tipping (gratuities are including in the price of the dishes to provide a living wage to staff). As ardent vegan foodies, I think we really enjoyed seeing what was coming out next, appreciating its presentation, and evaluating the tastes and textures that we were given. Agree that this is the kind of food that you are never going to make at home, so it's nice to treat yourself once a year to this type of high-end experience. Go for a special occasion and get the tasting menu!

Exceptional food, unlike any other spot in YVR - Edit
I’ve tried every vegan restaurant in YVR in the last two years and this new spot is the best for high end meals. There are a lot of hit and miss places at the same price point now but finding truly exceptional dishes from end to end hasn’t happened in Vancouver until now.
Read moreThe dishes are inventive and the flavour combinations were unlike any other. Vegans are not an afterthought at Folke and the flavours of the fresh local and foraged produce is front and centre.

I cannot wait to return! If this team can keep the standards up, they could win best restaurant in Canada. You won't be able to get a reservation at this place once word gets out so do yourself a favour and book a table now.
Pros: All vegan menu, Seasonal ingredients , Friendly and prompt service
Cons: A bit out of the way but worth it, The cutlery is mismatch - if that bothers you, Can’t think of anything bad to say really!
