Everything was incredibly delicious.

$$-$$$, it’s not dirt cheap but everything was absolutely amazing and delicious.

If you’re in Mendocino looking for 🌱 options, stop looking and eat here first. Don’t let you the ‘not 100% vegan’ thing put you off. Just ask if you’re concerned. These folks have got you covered, and it’s absolutely delicious, perfectly prepared food. A .

Deliciousness

Finally dined here, it’s been on our list of places to eat at! We shared small plates so we could get a taste of several different dishes. We started with the curried pumpkin soup was infused with Thai flavors and was really good. We also had mushroom toast (daily special), biscuit sliders (buffalo cauliflower), mashed potatoes & gravy and delicata squash. And we had to have the beignets for dessert which were warm and fluffy and served with apple butter and chocolate sauce. Everything was delicious!

Pros: All vegan menu, Variety of menu selections

Wow wow wow

Fog Eater Cafe has been on our radar for some time and each time we would miss the day. They are open Wednesday - Saturday for dinner. We did some planning to pull this off this time. Must have had a dozen emails from Haley about our reservation. It’s so nice to go to a restaurant that you don’t have to ask about food and the ingredients. It’s all vegan! Except the eggs on brunch🤦🏼‍♂️ We were able to sit inside cause we were vaxed🤫 So many choices. Ended up splitting the pumpkin curry soup, veggies of day, mashed potatoes and gravy, Buffalo cauliflower sliders, focaccia bread with mushrooms, and to top it off the beignets with chocolate sauce and pear butter. Everything was prepared so well. One of the best meals I’ve had. Looking forward to coming back.

Amazing southern vegan food

Such a great little cafe! Southern flair and a great menu. Nice outdoor seating area and great service. I had the fried oyster mushrooms as a main and we hit up happy hour as well. We had the hush puppies, pickles plate and the pimento cheese plate. All so tasty and flavorful! Don’t miss the Mac and cheese! The only eggs used are from the owners personal hens. All other items are vegan besides one dish. Enjoy!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Great happy hour, Outdoor seating

Spectacular! Worth the long wait to get in.

This may have been the best meal that I’ve eaten in seven years! My friend and I ordered the Fried Blue Oyster Mushrooms with mashed potatoes fava green gravy braised greens. Wow!!! As close to fried chicken as anything I’ve ever eaten as a vegan. (Fried chicken is the only “flesh” that I miss, but would never again eat.) The greens and gravy were equally exceptional. I wish they were open every day.

Pros: Incredible vegan options! , Kind staff, Dog friendly

Cons: Closed Sunday night through Tuesday , Only open for brunch & dinner , Doesn’t accept reservations

fantastic vegan desserts

We enjoyed the southern plate, with creamy mac and cheese, baked beans, corn bread, and veggies. But the highlight was the dessert. The beignets were excellent, really rich and delicious, with plenty of chocolate sauce. The berry pie had a perfect flaky crust and delicious filling.

The back garden has a fun atmosphere with lots of plants and lights, and the mismatched plates and silverware are very charming.

Pros: vegan beignets, delicious pie, vegan southern food

Savor The Fog!

We decided to give this little place a try since reviews stated that the deviled eggs was the only thing on the menu not vegan. We asked one of the owners why they didn't have anything on the menu stating vegan or otherwise. She said, "We are the subtle vegan place".
Well let me say there was nothing subtle about the flavors in their Southern Plate! The sauce on the lightly roasted broccoli was incredible! The mac n cheese cheese sauce was the best I've ever tasted! And the cute little cornbread skillet was the perfect cute addition! The whole place is a cuteness overload from the ocean cottage front to the comfortable backyard setting atmosphere with beautiful succulent foliage to highlight it's quaintness! The service was quick and friendly as well!
I would give this place a 5 Star Rating if I could!

Pros: Lots of vegan options

Everything is delicious

We had dinner here one night and then canceled our reservations elsewhere to come back the next night - it was that good! We were told the only non-vegan dinner item is deviled eggs (and there are eggs on the Sunday brunch menu), so we did our best to eat our way through the rest of the menu. Everything we tried was delicious!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Friendly staff

🥰 Completely satisfied!!

We loved trying things we can't get elsewhere like the sorghum waffles, beignets, and apple fritters. 👍👍
Everything was delicious. It was a great treat after the beautiful 3hr drive up.
We'd definitely make the trip again.

Pros: Delicious, filling food, Friendly servers, Comfortable and fun atmosphere

A delightful, innovative restaurant

Wow, what a find this gem was. Absolutely incredible food and dining experience. Every dish was inventive, creative and delicious. We ate slowly to savor all the flavors. They take care to source and only serve fresh, local ingredients. The integrity and beauty in the food was evident.

The backyard garden was really sweet and quaint. The whole energy is kind, considered and creative. The ladies that served us were delightful. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to any driving along 101. A must visit.

Pros: Everything is vegan minus a pickled egg appetizer, Lovely backyard garden and decoration, Very thoughtful, kind service

Cons: Price is higher, but worth it

Exquisite vegan gem

From the lovely servers, to the backyard tea garden-esque setup, to the sense-inspiring dishes, The Fog Eater was delightful. Highly recommended for a date night or dinner with a friend. Each menu item sounded tantalizing — everything would have been a great choice.

The soup of the day was an incredible nettle and lemon soup. Such a fun, uplifting combination. The cabbage rolls were cooked to perfection and paired with a revolutionary beet spread. The entré of fried oyster mushrooms, mashed potatoes, and collard greens was absolutely delectable.

Make sure to leave room for dessert. Truly inspired.

Pros: Creative flavor combinations, Wonderful staff and welcoming atmosphere, Very affordable for the high quality of food

Delicious!

Very flavorful and creative. Our best meal yet at Mendocino. 100% vegan. Sat outside on porch.
The zucchini soup was creamy and tasted so fresh. The biscuit sliders with fried green tomatoes and slaw was our favorite. We shared the southern plate with Mac n cheese (gluten-free). The best Mac n cheese we’ve had. For desserts we had apple/blackberry pie served with coco whip. Homemade flaky crust and not too sweet fresh fruit filling. But the best was the chocolate cheesecake. Not the raw version with date and nut crust were used to but better than traditional cheesecake. We’d go here again and again and again.

Fantastic

Not to be missed. Deviled eggs are only non vegan item. Service was impeccable, and the social distance seating was great for us. Seems lots of people showed up for the happy hour so getting there at opening dinner time, quite a few tables were already taken. We got a great table down in a corner spot.

Best place on the planet♡

The most amazing humans work here honestly, their service alone gives this place a 10/10. I just about licked every dish that I had from here clean. The brunch menu is filled with different types of biscuits and beignets. All worth trying. Even the bathroom here is super cute. I absolutely love this place and I'm so glad that I was gifted the opportunity to experience it.

Pros: Great vegan options, Outstanding service

Cons: Literally no cons

So good!

I just missed their grand opening last time I visited Mendocino, so I made a point to stop by on this trip. They didn’t disappoint! Living in the Bay Area, I have access to a lot of great vegan southern/soul food restaurants, but Fog Eater is possibly the best I’ve tried anywhere.

The Hush Puppies were really unique & delicious, the Biscuit Sliders were incredible (and actually the best part of the meal, despite stiff competition), and the Southern Plate was solid. The vegan Beignets were better than the ones I tried when visiting New Orleans a few years ago.

Can’t recommend this restaurant enough!

Pros: Incredible food, Friendly staff, Cozy room

Amazing!

One of the best vegan breakfasts we've ever had! The french toast was really good and had an unique spin on French toast, by using cornbread. Dinner was excellent too. The staff is very friendly and their decor is really cute and hip. Can't wait to come back to Mendocino and visit!

Pros: vegan breakfast, unique twist on southern food, Great atmosphere

Perfection: food & atmosphere

Perfectly made meal in every creative detail. Organic, local, fresh.

As described on their website, the food is "... inspired by both the hearty recipes of the deep South and the fresh plant-based cuisine of Northern California." I read the HappyCow description too quickly & mistakenly thought that the food was going to be South American vs the South in the USA.

Cozy atmosphere with a lot of attention to detail in the entire experience. Feels like a hip new restaurant that would be in the Mission District of San Francisco; exciting to have a new option in Mendocino.

Check their Instagram profile for pics of the perfectly styled food. Looking forward to visiting again.

Pros: Majority of menu is vegan, High quality ingredients creating perfect dishes, Cozy

Cons: Check schedule for seasonal hours, Far away from my home

Great for Vegans

We were thrilled to find this café. I wish they were open for lunch as well. I had the pot pie and it was great. We shared the small sides of barbecued lima beans, corn bread, and pimento cheese with sourdough toast which were good, as well. I plan to go each time I am visiting the area. There is really only one non-vegan item on the menu, which are the deviled eggs

Pros: Almost all vegan items , Great desserts, Lots of small plates to share.

Adorable veg spot!

This place is so cute and the staff is so friendly! I stayed at the Stanford inn but came here a few times to diversify my mendicino vegan experience. Everything is vegan on the menu unless the ingredients list eggs or cheese.

Pros: Friendly and attentive staff , Vegetarian restaurant but mostly vegan food , Fun cocktails and a diner vibe

Cons: Pricey, but what isn’t in CA?

A friendly delicious treat!

Family has been looking forward to visiting Fog Eater Cafe since we saw info about their opening on Instagram. The experience was wonderful. Friendly knowledgeable owners and the food and cocktails were creative, fresh, beautifully presented and most importantly-Delicious! We ordered one of each of the appetizers at happy hour - the deviled eggs, the hush puppies, the pickle plate, and pimento cheese. Each was wonderful and left us wanting more! We will be coming back for dinner or brunch as soon as possible. The description of California cuisine with a southern twang is perfect. The menu varies a bit based on what is available in season. Go visit!

Pros: Service and style of restaurant fantastic!, Vegetarian & Vegan menu, Food fresh from local farms and cocktails devine
