Limited options but ok - Edit
Nice enough, a few vegan options but our lovely friendly waitress clearly had no idea what vegan means despite telling us she is a pescatarian. Pointed out diary free steak pie! Chick pea patties were OK but a bit dry. Jacket potato and beans was more tasty. Average food £24.00 lunch for 2 with non alcoholic drinks

Great vegan food - Edit
Enjoyed vegan scones and the chickpea patties here. The hot chocolate is also vegan, the waitress kindly checked for us. Very friendly staff. Lovely to stop in during cold days and sit by the fire.

Lovely food, but very pricey! - Edit
Lovely vegan options. We had the chickpea and lentil patties, which were lovely, but a small portion for nearly £10 each! Really good vegan scones, but no vegan cream.

Filling Lunch - Edit
We had the chickpea patties meal. It was delicious. Followed by a fruit scone that the chef told us was vegan. Just lacked vegan cream. The interior is delightful and we sat near an open fire. Would definitely visit again.

Historic building with vegan options - Edit
I found this cafe just before closing time. So I was not able to have a main course there. However I was astonished to find that not only were home made vegan scones available (they happened to be also gf), the waitress asked me if I would like soya cream and jam with them too. So I didn't have to miss out. There was soya milk on offer with the hot drinks, of which there was a good range.
Read moreWhat impressed me was the friendly service. In spite of it being a blisteringly hot day and the town heaving with tourists, the staff remained friendly and pleasant. The chef/owner even came out from the kitchen and spent some time chatting with me and some other customers about the menu, in particular his scones, which he was proud of. He mentioned that there is always a vegan option on the menu (lentil and chickpea patties) as well as home made vegan soup, salad and often a special of the day. I would love to go back there if I visit Rye again.
Pros: Staff knowledgeable about vegan menu items, Home made food, Friendly service
Cons: Closes at 5pm
