Delightful - great vegan & plant-based options - Edit
I was there for New Year's Eve and had their 4-course prix fixe menu. Often these special menus don't have a lot of vegan options. This was different. Every course had great options and the food was unbelievable!
Read more1st Course: choice of a winter citrus salad with vegan boursin croutons or a delicious vegan parsnip bisque with white truffle, crispy garlic and chili crisp. The soup was OMG good.
2nd course - pulled bbq mushroom tostones. So much flavor!
3rd course - Vegan "Crab" Cakes -- these stole the show. One of the best vegan dishes I have ever had.
4th course - I was pretty full, so I opted for the housemade apple cider sorbet. Perfect ending.
Fantastic meal. Fantastic restaurant.
Pros: Vegan Crab Cakes, So many options!, Flavor!!!!
Cons: Nothing

Great Food, Great Mission - Edit
I've been here 2x, once for lunch and once for dinner. FBF makes a serious commitment to vegan options. Many menu items are vegan, and several others can be veganized with minor tweaks. Plant based menu available (check QR code on menu). Food was delicious. Nice upscale atmosphere.
Read moreI also love the not for profit business model, which supports the community and lifts up folks having difficulty entering the job market by training them to work in food service industry. 18% surcharge which enables them to pay a living wage to all employees.
Sometimes, a little patience is necessary as some employees are learning, and there was a mistake with my order (which was very quickly and appropriately addressed). But service was uber-friendly, and staff is heavily invested in the restaurant's mission and providing an excellent experience for diners. It is also reasonably priced for food quality. I can recommend brussel sprout app, risotto, and banana cream pie.
They accept reservations. Outdoor seating. They also offer brunch w/ vegan options. Great bar options.
A prior reviewer commented that they offered foie gras. That is no longer on the menu.

Incredible vegan options - Edit
Fire by Forge is an incredible restaurant to go to with veg and non-veg, recently awarded Best New Restaurant and Best Chef by the Hartford Courant. Offering several dietary menus, vegan, gluten free, halal. Menu is clearly labeled. And they ask and note any allergies.
Read moreWe shared the Vegan Tostones Nachos with 4 fried plantains topped pico de gallo, plant-based spicy mayo, pickled onions, micro cilantro. As well as the Vegan Wild Mushroom Empanada with wild mushrooms, caramelized onions, plant-based garlic herb spread, plant-based spicy mayo. Both were my favorites, delicious and highly recommend! Its going to be hard not to order these again!
For dinner I ordered a lighter dish, the Vegan Curry Chickpea Salad Bowl with a curried chickpea salsd (plant-based mayo), greens, red wine vinaigrette, dried cranberries, marcona almonds. Very solid dish. It was delicious, but I think I would want to try something more unique next time!
For dessert, ordered the deconstructed Banana Cream Pie made with house made nilla wafers, banana mousse, vegan whipped cream, bananas. Visually, less refined looking than the rest of the dishes but still delicious and not overly sweet, which I like. I would like to try the sorbets next time!
Not pictured: Non-vegan, my family ordered the Caesar salad which was creamy, milder and unique take to the dish. A hearty serving of mac n cheese with fried chicken, and a chocolate lava cake with raspberry. Everyone loved both the shared vegan appetizers and dessert and their meals.
Fire by Forge is a non-profit restaurant, training and hiring staff who may have barriers to employment, higher minimum wage for the restaurant industry, 401k, etc. They train chefs in the building next door and will be opening a market in May with a sliding scale to provide more access to fresh foods in the local community.
Pros: Clearly labeled menu, Delicious vegan offerings, Small parking lot
Cons: Serves foie gras
