Serves meat, vegan options available. Mongolian stir-fry kind of restaurant where you choose the ingredients you'd like from the food bars, and the staff cooks them on a grill. Can ask to wipe the grill and use separate spatula. Has various veggies plus rice and tofu. Sauces are marked if vegan, like the teriyaki and the marinara. Open Mon-Thu 11:30am-9:00pm, Fri-Sat 11:30am-10:00pm, Sun 11:30am-9:00pm.

Decent

The $23 lunch all u can eat was okay, but only the rice noodles out of the handful of noodle options did not have egg apparently! There were only a couple vegan sauces too. At least there was tofu and veggjes, but not the most exciting vegan options. Better labeling would be amazing too! Also on the grill there was some meat and butter from other people's stuff that spilled over onto our stuff.

Cross-contamination much?

Choose-your-own adventure Mongolian BBQ / hibachi (teppenyaki) concept, where you grab your own ingredients and a sauce from a buffet and bring it to the chefs to cook for you.

On the plus side, they do have lots of veggies and giant chunks of tofu, as well as vegan sauce choices. I didn't feel guilty taking most of the tofu they had out, I was probably the only person in the restaurant eating it, haha.

On the minus side, not for the squeamish about cross-contamination. My food was cooked on a shared flat grill with the same utensils as other diner's meat dishes. Now true, eating out at a restaurant often means food cooked on shared surfaces/in shared oil, but still, this definitely rubs your nose in it. Unlike other reviewers, I was not asked if I was veggie, offered separate cooking utensils or a cleaned surface, so take that for what you will.

Our server took our drink order and then forgot about it until most of the way through dinner. Considering at this restaurant the servers have a single job, to bring you a drink, I'd say that was a fail as well.

Expensive? Well, of course, because location, but once again it does kind of rub your nose in the fact that you're paying that price for all-you-can eat expensive meat options. If you're just going to have a single serving of veggies and tofu like me, it's kind of ridiculous.

Would I go back? Probably not, South Lake has lots of better options, even if I was limiting myself to the touristy Heavenly village and nearby.

Pros: Tofu

Cons: Cross-contamination, Bad drink service, Expensive

Too expensive

Good food but way too expensive…especially for non-meat eaters. Was $70 for 2 bowls of veggies.

Pros: Clearly marked sauces , Lots of vegan options

Cons: Way too expensive for a bowl of veggies

Mongolian style buffet

Jason was an exceptional server/ bartender. Gabbie was a grill master. They had tofu, veggies, noodles, gluten free options, and plenty of vegan sauces to choose from. Highly recommend stopping by for this buffet!

Ok, but not worth the cost

$30 for a small bowl of veggies and tofu (even with multiple trips) is a rip off even at Heavenly.

Pros: Vegan options are labeled, Staff will take care to avoid contamination

Cons: Way, way too expensive, Gets super busy

Expensive, but not bad

We visited on a Wednesday evening and were seated right away. The waitress showed us where everything was and explained how to grab the food we wanted and bring it over to the grill. She also mentioned there were some things that weren't out at the grab it yourself section because they didn't go to the grill, but offered to bring them directly to our table for us if we wanted (burger buns, flour tortillas, white rice, etc.) We did end up getting multiple servings of tortillas and rice.

There were a couple types of noodles, but it was hard for us to tell what might have egg in it so we avoided those. There were lots of different vegetables available. We skipped over the entire meat section and went straight for the sauces after that. Some of the sauces were explicitly labeled as vegan and others were vegetarian, so knowing which were okay to pick was easy.

When we brought our food up to the grill, the grill staff noticed we didn't have any meat and asked us if we were vegetarians without us needing to mention it ourselves. When we confirmed they also offered to use separate utensils for us, which we were happy for. Before we finished for the evening we had gone back to get more food and revisit the grill four times, and each time they recognized us and used separate utensils without even asking again.

All in all the food was pretty good for what it was, grilled veggies and sauces. I don't think it was really worth the price though. It is All You Can Eat and they charge you like you're going to fill every plate with steak and shrimp.

Pros: Staff was friendly and accommodating, Large variety of sauces - vegan/vegetarian labels

Cons: Overpriced

Expensive for just okay and time consuming

For anyone reading this that doesn't know what kind of place this is - you basically get a small bowl, fill it up with raw stuff from a salad bar/buffet type situation, pick a sauce, and then take it to a big grill in the center of the restaurant where the grill workers cook your food and plate it.

My husband and I were there on a Wednesday night and it wasn't too bad of a wait every time we went up to the grill. We were there for just over an hour.

To their credit: they have a lot of veggies and they are not placed directly next to the meat so there is no contamination there. All of the sauces you can choose are clearly labeled and you can see which ones are vegan. There are at least 5. You can also get flour tortillas (to make tacos) or a side of white rice from the waitress and that is included in the meal price.

The guys working the grill noticed we had no meat and asked if we were vegetarian/vegan and when we said yes, they offered to use different utensils/spatulas which they kept in a separate pan to ensure they didn't get mixed up. He even sectioned our food with chopsticks laid on the grill and started to recognize us and clean/set up in advance, which was extremely nice and why I gave this place 3 stars instead of 2.

That being said, with tip to the waitress and the grill guys, we paid ~$90 for two meals with no drinks. This included 3 small bowls of veggies for each of us (6 total), a small bowl of white rice, and two "orders" of taco shells. It's not a good value.

If you care about covid things: They had hand sanitizer, but it was empty. They ask that you wear a disposable plastic glove when touching the tongs to fill your bowl with the raw items. They did have wipes available. One grill employee was wearing a mask correctly, the other was not. The place was small and it was hard to remain socially distanced. Many people waiting for food at the grill would wear a mask the first time, but not for seconds, thirds, etc.

Pros: The two guys working the grill, Lots of veggies and sauces labeled, Friendly staff

Cons: Really expensive/poor value, Covid safety precautions iffy, Not sure where parking is (I walked from my hotel)

Vegan Options, Expensive

My fiancé and I miss having a Mongolian grill near where we live, so when traveling through Tahoe we knew where we were going. We went on a Thursday night and there was quite a wait so we opted to sit at the bar instead. The bartender was kind of ‘meh’ but the grill guy was awesome, asking us if we were vegan and if we wanted him to use different utensils. The food we prepared was cooked to our liking. However because it was busy, it took a while for us to get our food and we were limited in the number of plates we could create in the time that we had. It was also expensive (think $28 for the entree and $10 for every beer). That is to be expected in a destination town but we were still shocked to see a near $130 bill for two people. I recommend coming if you have a few hours and money to burn.

Pros: grill guy was entertaining, thoughtful, variety of veggies and labeled vegan options, customizable menu

Cons: lackluster customer service at bar, expensive , long grill times
