So happy to find this place. The Big Bad Breakfast Sandwich is incredibly delicious. The place is cool; the staff is kind, loved everything and will be back for sure on my next time in Victoria. They also have coconut whipped cream, perfect!

Definitely will be going back. Breakfast all day or tasty lunches, you really can't go wrong here. The best pain au chocolat I've had in a long time both omnivore or vegan experiences considered. Puff pastry that the bake off show of your choice would love.

Great vegan breakfast! - Edit
I had the breakfast sandwich and it was awesome. No hash browns required - the sandwich was more than enough. My (non-vegan) other half loved the buttermilk pancakes.

Meh - Edit
Very meh food from my experience. Just does not have that special restaurant quality/ I couldn’t make this at home taste. I don’t understand all the good reviews. The tofu scramble was good but something I could have easily replicated at home. Just not special enough to justify 14$. Also really not a fan of the texture of their pancakes (raw doughy fluff). And they seem to put the same smoky taste in everything- toast, pancakes, tofu scramble; I was just not a big fan. There are so many good vegan options near dt, I would never pick this one. Maybe their bakery stuff is good?

Great that it’s all vegan, flavours need improvement - Edit
It’s really positive to have another all vegan dining option in Vic but my honest feedback is that the food here isn’t that great and needs improvement. I’ve probably had around 6 or 7 different offerings since it opened and have been underwhelmed each time. Whether it’s not enough salt or sugar or food that lacks more complex flavours, dishes offered aren’t that good. Everyone’s palate is different so maybe you’ll like it, though I’ve heard similar feedback from vegan friends and family

Hi there,
Read moreLol. I am blown away at the 2 stars. I would consider emailing businesses before leaving potentially damaging reviews. We appreciate feedback via email or in person as it is most helpful for growth, whereas bad reviews steer people away. I have never heard anything like this in our 2 + years being open, many people like that we don’t over do it with the sugar and salt and boast about the flavor. Yes everyone has different opinions that is for sure true. I would be interested to discuss further with more detail on what items you’re referring to. Sorry to have disappointed so much, for that I am sad! Thanks for your honesty.

Hi FernCafe. I'm sorry but that's an awful response. To actually 'lol' and then condemn the poster for having the nerve to not like your food. ?! It shows me that you don't take your customers seriously, and that you aren't willing to take steps to be better. This is a forum where negative reviews are expected and welcome. I won't be visiting you - but not because of the negative review but rather because of your response.

The cafe is entirely vegan. There's limited seating so we got lucky on our first visit squeezing ourselves in. The pancakes n' chickun with spicy maple syrup followed by the daily donut sent me into a sugar bliss palace that brought me close to God.

Hi Esme
Read moreWe have been posting on our social media ( facebook and Instagram and our website) for a weeks now about our kitchen improvements and expansion ( not repairs) so people would know ahead of time. We have also had a sign up in our window. If we were to put that we were closed on google etc it would no doubt confuse most people into thinking that we are permanently closed or have gone out of business. This would cause us some serious damage to our business when we re open as people wouldn't come back. About 95% of our customers are local and also follow us on social media so we didn't think it would be a huge issue, and most people who didn't know would be reasonable and understanding. We are very sorry for the inconvenience but as I see from your other reviews you are well aware of the many many other awesome plant based options in town, so in the end we are sure you still had a great meal somewhere. We are just a very small team who have a lot on our plate and do not feel this review is justifiable. Hopefully you come back after our renovations to try our bigger better menu, and we can get a better review. Also in the future please feel free to email us at info@ferncafeandbakery.ca for any concerns or feedback, as we truly do care and want to make all of our customers happy. Thanks Fern

Desserts are quite tasty - Edit
We came for breakfast and had a cinnamon roll, macaroon, muffin, the breakfast scramble and breakfast sandwich. Neither of us are fans of anything super sweet and the baked goods were not very sweet, a nice surprise. Food was good, the "tofu scramble" on the sandwich was just a slab of soft tofu and the bun was very much a white bread style bun so the sandwich was a bit too soft and fell apart. Scramble plate had a nice focaccia although something to moisten it would be nice (butter, oil, spread). We made do with sriracha. Overall a nice meal although we would try different entrees next time.

Hi Lettuce Muncher
Read moreThank you so much for coming in and trying us out. We are also not fans of desserts that are way too sweet so we try very hard to get the sweetness level just right, and are glad you noticed! We are changing our menu up a little bit and will take your feed back on the breakfast sandwich into account for sure. Its messiness is part of the experience but it could still use a sturdier bun. As for the focaccia on the scramble, it is supposed to come with a nice chunk of our house made palm oil free butter on top to moisten it, so we are sorry you missed out on it, woops!Hope to see you again. Thanks again.
