The sanctuary was founded in 1986 to combat the abuses of factory farming and encourage a new awareness and understanding about farm animals. It's home to rescued cows, pigs, turkeys, and other farm animals. Open to visitors from May through October - visit webpage for tour schedule. Also offers self-catered accommodation in tiny wooden houses. Open Sat-Sun 10:30am-5:00pm.

Tour with Friends and Family - Edit
I loved seeing how well protected and cared for each animal guest is. And the cafe was incredible! The beautiful scenery also helped. They have an incredible lunch menu (fully vegan of course). The place felt full of life and respect for all life.

A peaceful sanctuary - Edit
Farm Sanctuary is such a special place. This was our second time staying in the cabins and it has been wonderful both times. The tour is excellent, even if you're not staying on the property it is worth a trip. They've expanded their breakfast offerings for B&B guests, and told us that they're going to be opening a cafe in the next few weeks!

Amazing Experience - Edit
Loved my visit. Animals and tour guide were great. If your visiting Watkins Glen, this is a must. Be sure to get tickets ahead online. They were kind enough to add me to a full tour when I showed up but I wasn't aware that tours sold out. Also, a really cute gift shop.

Phenomenal! Spend the night if you can - Edit
A wonderful, feel good location.
Read moreWe just got back from a two night stay in one of the tiny houses here. I'd recommend spending a night (or two) if you can. It lets you see the sanctuary morning through night and to truly immerse yourself in the experience.
The tiny houses with washrooms are beautifully decorated and have everything you could need with phenomenal views over Watkins Glen. The vegan picnic-style breakfast in the morning is a nice touch.
One morning we volunteered for a couple of hours with the staff and interns clearing out the sheep barn. It's a great way to give back (in a tiny way!), but it also gives you hands-on experience, seeing how the sanctuary operates and how sincere and heartfelt the team who work here are.
It was nice to be around like-minded folk, and to see the sanctuary in person having followed them on social media for so long.
Pros: Spending time with the animals on the B&B tour, Sitting on the porch at night overlooking the pigs, Feeling positive about animal welfare
Cons: Nothing!

Care and respect for animals, educational - Edit
Went on their tour. They name each of their animals, know each of their personalities and stories, and educate people about the industries that they came from.

Good tour, educational - Edit
We had the one hour tour. Our guide Alice walked backwards through almost the whole tour with grace! She was very educational and knows the animals well. It was interesting to meet them and hear their stories.

Petting and showing kindness to farm animals all day is pure bliss. The tour is wonderful. They give you time to just hang out with the animals. First time i've pet a turkey! They're so wonderful❤️
Read moreGuided tours are offered May through October.
June through August: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

Only con is I wish tours were offered every day and wish they offered extended tours. An hour is not even close to enough.

Overnight stay in heaven - Edit
This is one of the most special places I’ve ever been. The animals are so tender. I wasn’t expecting to be bombarded with cuddles by the goats — that was an amazing moment.
Read moreA few thoughts:
- A stay here can be life changing, even for somebody who has been vegetarian and cared a lot about animal rights for 10 years. There’s just so much I didn’t know because I’d only read and watched videos about these animals — I didn’t have a meaningful connection to them otherwise.
- Highly recommend the overnight stay if possible — they’re booked out for the season, but I imagine they’ll have more capacity next year. I had a cabin and felt it was perfect.
- The staff here are so approachable and awesome.
- I would love to make a visit to farm sanctuary an annual tradition.

We come here a few times a year to stay on site in the tiny houses. We've stayed in the cabins as well. Both are great. Waking up to the animals and taking daily tours to meet the animals is amazing.
