I liked it but... - Edit
I liked it but not as much as others. I had a breakfast and while it was flavourful, it also seemed a bit dry. The soup was also good but microwaved from frozen and that made the heating uneven. It's been a while so I would love to give them another try.

Best Falafel in Canada! Prove me wrong! - Edit
This place is the real deal. I’ve had falafel everywhere, and this amazing, fun, vibrant, no frills, busy Winnipeg institution has the best falafel I have had in Canada hands down. Don’t trust me? Try it! Even if you disagree, you will be moved by this charming place.

Kid-friendly, Vegan options - Edit
I love how the owner is so clearly a parent. We went there today and he knew to give the kids crayons and colouring paper *immediately,* to bring them water in colorful plastic cups *right away,* and to set their hot plates (brought within minutes) well out of their reach on the grownup side of the table. These considerate steps prevented boredom-induced bad behaviour and potential burns! He is a truly a gem; not everyone "gets" kids like that.
Read moreThe many vegan options, like the Vegan Heaven breakfast (pictured here with gluten-free mods), pea soup, oatmeal, borscht, hash browns, fries, falafel, etc. are diner comfort food at its finest with a Middle-Eastern/ American spin. All delicious and very well priced.
Pros: Many vegan options , vegan gluten-free offerings, kid friendly
Cons: Not all vegan - make sure to check!

Great greasy breakfast - Edit
I really like the vegan breakfasts. Greasy comfort food. I recommend the plates over the wraps because the way they make the wraps make it very difficult to eat.

Great homemade soups and Falafel platters - Edit
This diner has the best homemade soups, offering vegan GF Beet borscht, spicy bean, green pea, or curry lentil and yam soups that are oh so thick and tasty! The Middle Eastern Falafel plate with fried eggplant is amazing.

Cannot say enough good things!! - Edit
Since village diner closed down it has been a struggle to find a good place to go for vegan breakfast especially because I really dislike Stellas. This place answered my prayers and then some. Great for breakfast, lunch and dinner! I just love it! Have gone a few times now and I have nothing bad to say. Simply delicious with a clearly labelled menu stating what is vegan.

Best falafel in Winnipeg! - Edit
I always get the Canadian Falafel pita, best falafel I’ve ever had except for Aux Vivres in Montreal😉I love how generous they are with the sauce, add the fries, and have hot peppers optional! Their lentil soup is also really spicy and good. Watch out, the pita is filling lol :)

Vegan Heaven Breakfast - 5 stars - Edit
I have been a regular customer of the Falafel Place since the late 1980s, when Ami operated out of a tiny storefront on Academy and cooked everything himself. My husband and I would stop in for breakfast after an early-morning run and chat with Ami while he manned the cooktop, the cash and managed the inevitable weekend lineups with his trademark good humour. Two location changes and almost three decades later, it's still the place we gather with our family and good friends - and my all-time favourite place for breakfast. It marries the personality and warmth of a slightly quirky neighbourhood diner with consistently delicious food at reasonable prices.
Read moreLocal art and photographic images on the walls (including paper bag art by younger customers) add to the cozy neighbourhood feel.
The vegan heaven breakfast is my long-time fave: 8 crispy falafel with hummus and tahini, hash browns, choice of toast (I like the rye), vegetables (a mix of yams and sweet peppers; and I always say yes to the optional onions, garlic and hot pepper rings).
Friendly, efficient staff and quick service are hallmarks of the Falafel Place, as are hidden gems like the fresh orange or grapefruit juice, squeezed on the spot, and the house-made green hot sauce (available on request to those in the know).
Although they do a masterful job of standard North American breakfast fare like bacon, eggs, pancakes, waffles, and French toast, what sets this place apart is its inclusiveness of diners with diverse dietary needs or preferences. Vegan and vegetarian selections are individually marked, as well as being grouped on the menu. Middle-Eastern options like baba ghanoush, tabouli, blintzes, knishes (including kasha/buckwheat), couscous, tahini, tabouli, hummus, pita and falafel are all vegan, as are four of the six soups and a number of breakfast and lunch platters.
The huge menu and large number of vegan options makes this place our go-to breakfast and lunch spot, as a family of a vegan and three omnivores with a growing number of vegetarian and gluten-intolerant friends.
My sole complaint is that the sheer number of customers makes for a noisy environment in peak hours. Sound-absorbing ceiling tiles might help take the background noise down a notch.
Pros: Delicious, culturally diverse vegan meals, Open early! Accessible location, street parking, Great service; inclusive, friendly neighbourhood f
Cons: Weekend lineups, Lack of soundproofing (very noisy at peak hours)

Vegan, Vegetarian and Gluten Free Menu Options. - Edit
The Falafel Palace is a great little place to stop in or get take out for two people for less than $20.
Read moreThe star of the Falafel Palace is of course the falafel, little balls of heaven, great dipped in tahini sauce, hummus or with a bit of hot sauce. I always have one of the falafel plates, there are a few to choose from with options for pitas, hummus, fried eggplant, or even yam fries added into the pita.
If extra hungry I'll have a soup or split some tasty sweet potato fries with my husband. The amount of fries is large, so even a half order can be split between two if you are ordering other menu items.
There are usually 4 vegan soups available; Spicy Bean, Curried Yam & Lentils, Beet Borscht and Green Pea. I've had the first two soups, and while I would of preferred them to be spicier, found them to be yummy. The soup portion is a bit small.
The menu is clearly labelled with Vegan, Vegetarian, and Gluten Free options. There are also blitzes. potato pancakes, knishes, spanikopita, and vegan onion rings on the menu.
The restaurant is open early (6:30)for breakfast too; with eggs, hash, omelets, pancakes (potato!), waffles. For Vegans, the breakfast options are limited to the Vegan Heaven breakfast; a felafel & veggie & hashbrown plate.
A simple diner-like atmosphere, with a few booths, and small square tables that can be moved around to fit bigger parties. The kitchen is partially open to view, if you want to "peak" at your food as it's being made. Service is good and friendly, though I tend to go in the evenings.
Open 7 days a week, weekends are busy, evenings are quieter, as the restaurant closes at 9. I really wish they were open until 10, or had a separate "late night" location.
Pros: Fantastic Falafel, Good Portions at Reasonable Prices, Menu with Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten Free
Cons: Closes at 9pm
