Good food - Edit
Main courses were good, the breads didn’t impress me (the sauces were very acidic and were expensive). Prices are a bit higher for Oaxaca

Great project producing amazing flavours - Edit
I actually didn't eat in the restaurant but I did a cooking course which was run by ethnofood and the food and flavours were incredible! It was so good that i tried to go back to eat in the restaurant but sadly it was closed😒if the restaurant food is anything like as good as what we cooked during the course, you have to give it a try!

Cozy backyard place - Edit
Food is served in a little backyard.
Read moreA lot of food wasn’t available. The French Bread was nice, but the fruit on top was cold, so the toast cooled quickly.
Food was nice.
Pros: All vegan, Friendly staff , Cozy place
Cons: Not everything was available

We LOVE Etno! Probably the best place we've been to in Oaxaca. Everything about the food is amazing. Try the waffles! Nice garden setting and super friendly staff. If you're wondering if you should go - this is your sign!

Authentic oaxaca cuisine - Edit
I enjoyed the experience here, we tried the mole tasting. The almond and olive mole was our favourite. The food was good but nothing special in my opinion. I'm sure the food was all done really well it was just a bit bland to me. Drinks are good and staff are really nice. Lovely setting. Reasonable prices.

Love love love!! Delicious - Edit
Fully vegan menu. Went for breakfast. They didn’t have bread at the time so I got waffles & Oaxaca spicy potatoes (because lots of the reviews said portions were small) and it was HUGE!
Read moreWaffles had incredible passion fruit flavoured ice cream. The potatoes were huge, couldn’t eat them all. Staff were so helpful. Cute little courtyard to sit in with good wifi so even did a bit of work. Will absolutely come back here to try other food.
Only con is I had a hot chocolate and it was very bland so wouldn’t order again, but that’s just my opinion!
Pros: All vegan & great options , Huge portions for what I ordered , Great vibe

good but not great - Edit
I was expecting a bit too much maybe. It was good and the staff was friendly. It was also really reasonably priced, but my mushroom salad could have been a bit more exciting or substantial. It was good and fresh, but just not like I will want to go back for it. I would however go back to try other things on the menu. The kitchen hours only 1pm - 5pm are a bit slim too, would love this place for brunch.

Great food, wonderful service - Edit
Came for breakfast, had the French toast and a hot chocolate with ginger. Food came out so quickly and was excellent. The bread was perfectly done and the fruit and syrup just the right amount of sweetness.
Read moreWish there were two pieces instead of one, so a bit small and a wee bit expensive for the portion. My hot chocolate didn’t have much ginger taste to it but was good, I like strong ginger, was not too sweet which was good. Outdoor patio was nice and quiet. Owner, chef all staff very welcoming.
Came back and had the Etno sandwich - excellent portion, flavour and quality

Just OK - Edit
Happy they are vegan, and I really wanted to like them, but service was slow and the dishes really not very good for the price.
Read moreEverything had sort of a fussy design, but mediocre implementation.
One of the times I went I had avacado toast - pretty easy to do well - who doesn't like avacado toast, right?
I found it underwhelming in every way - the bread was huge, not much at all on top and expensive for an easy, inexpensive item in Oaxaca.
Pros: Vegan!, inspired ideas
Cons: Fussy, poor execution, too proud

Wonderful - Must Try - Edit
I came here here a few times while in Oaxaca City. The restaurant is fully vegan. All the food I had was great and plentiful. The backyard seating area is really nice - you could spend an afternoon there. I highly recommend this restaurant to vegans and non-vegans alike. I usually ordered three course meals and the bill would be $200 to $300 MXN per meal (I have a big appetite and didn’t share any plates, but some dishes are big enough to share). The chocolate bonbons are delicious. My only suggestion would be to reduce the sweetness of the horchata / make it sugar free.

My favorite Oaxaca Vegan Restaurant - Edit
Food is great. Right next to my hostel. My complaint is that it closes kinda early. Wouldn’t recommend the hot salad, everything else I have had is fantastic. Owner is cool. Definitely should go.

Book a cooking class now! - Edit
We sadly didn’t a chance to eat at Etnofood but we did do a cooking class which we can’t recommend it enough! We had a wonderful day learning how to make mole oaxaqueño. Took a trip to the market to get ingredients and learned about the trees we passed along the way. Martin was the best teacher, very informative, and we had a blast!

Chocolates and the Etno Sandwich - Edit
This cafe and garden is a lovely place to whittle away an afternoon. We ate a few things here but enjoyed the hummus-filled Etno sandwich the most - it would likely be even better if the bread was lightly toasted (you could request this, I'm sure).
Read moreDefinitely ask for the artisanal chocolates! They are creme-filled, beautifully presented, and available in 6-7 different flavours. I can recommend the lemon and jamaica ones, in particular.

Etnofood, bonito lugar con mucha vegetación y espacio amplio, amables, sin embargo no cuentan con variedad y muchos de sus platillos no están disponibles, es muy caro para un platillo simple y el servicio no es muy bueno.

Delicious vegan options :) - Edit
I had a fantastic 2 experiences here😄I got to try vegan mole, and I also had the hummus sandwich which was delicious. I also had the matcha latte with soy milk (i think they also had almond), and a lemon chocolate bonbon (DELICIOUS). I happened to show up right before an all vegan chocolate tasting, and it was a fantastic experience! The man who makes all the chocolate there told us so much of the history of Oaxaca chocolate, and we got to sample many of his creations, including the lemon cream filling used in the bonbons— apparently he made a pie with it too, I wish i had gotten that. Everyone is welcoming and the food is wonderful. Just know the portions aren’t huge and it’s slightly pricey.

This is a must if visiting Oaxaca. I also did the cooking course, where you learn about the history and use of many local ingredients. Made a delicious fresh juice, salad, rice, and mole that was not overly complicated, absolutely incredible and something very doable again.
