Very nice

The food was tasty and simple with great prices. Most vegatarian dishes are vegan, so you have quite a few choices

Fantastic food and lovely owner

The owner of the restaurant is very sweet! It took a while, however the food was really tasty. They don't serve alcohol and don't have cutlery, to me this is not a problem however, I understand this might be a problem if you have a disability. Owner really listened to what we wanted and made a plate for us. They don't serve alcohol, but I don't really mind that.

Pros: Great food, lots of choice!, Fantastic price, Lovely owner

Very delicious

The restaurant was closed when we came by even though the schedule on the door said it would be open. But when calling the restaurant the owner immediately returned my call to tell me she would open the restaurant in an hour. It was worth the wait. What a nice owner and amazing food! We had a surprise plate because we could not decide what to have. Not too spicy and full of flavour. It amazed me we were the only ones there.

Best Ethiopian Restaurant sofar

Lots of vegan options. We couldn't decide so we asked the owner to surprise us. That wasn't a problem for her. The owner made everything fresh, everything was really flavorful. Worthwhile the wait, one of the best Ethiopian restaurants I have ever visited!

Pros: Lot's of vegan optopns, Everthing was made fresh, Friendly service, good value

Cons: There were not many people in on a rainy Thursday

New favourite restaurant in Leeuwarden

After reading the reviews we were very exited to go to Ethiopian 'Eethuis' Sarah.

While arriving we were a bit stunned that there were no other people dining here. So we took place at the window, overlooking the street with beautiful old buildings.
After we got our drinks we had to choose each one dish, which was hard since they all look incredibly delicious (and all of the vegetarian dishes are also vegan). We then each chose one vegan dish and the food was pretty quickly served. But before we could eat, Sarah came to use with water to wash our hands first. We didn't know that we were eating with our hands, which was a really nice surprise. The food was delicious and perfectly portioned for two persons.
After that we had a small talk with the owner, which was really nice.

Since I cannot give 5 stars, because it is not an 'all vegan restaurant', it's 4 stars! Really loved our experience there and would 10/10 come back there and recommend it to other people.

Pros: Delicious food, Authentic and affordable food, Very friendly

Cons: Beware you can only pay cash or bank transfer (QR)

Incredibly delicious

We ordered the vegan surprise menu. You get a big plate full of Injeras topped with lovely spiced dishes. The chef came to check on us and offered us to “refill” Injeras or toppings if needed. So we had plenty of this incredibly delicious food!

100% recommended

Delicious vegan food served and cooked by the owner who also happens to be a great host! This place is easily missed as it does not even have a name or sign outside.

Selection of meat and vegetarian dishes (of which the majority is vegan) listed on separate menus. Food is served traditionally and you simply eat with your hands. We had a chickpea dish and a bean stew (nr. 13 and 15). If you don’t have a Dutch debit card you may have to pay cash.

Pros: Large selection of vegan options , Authentic food, Great prices

Cons: No drink menu - simply ask what’s on offer

Delicious Ethiopian food

My first time eating ethiopian, and was not disappointed! All dishes come with injera (sorgum flatbread), which you use to eat with your hands. There is an equal amount of vegan and non-vegan dishes. We chose red lentils and chickpea dishes, the spices were amazing. The tea is also worth a try. It is run by a single lady in a small restaurant, you really have to know where it is (it is not on Google Maps). Also really affordable (8€ for a dish, which is really filling).

Fantastic food to eat using your hands

Entering this restaurant really feels like you are stepping into somebody's house. The place is pretty small, with just a couple of tables. Staff consisted of a single woman, who greeted us with a very friendly smile and attitude.

We chose to have a vegetarian (also vegan) combination dish to try and sample as much as possible. It was a great choice, all the food was super flavourful! I especially like the spicy potatoes and the chickpea puree dishes. It was plenty too, all of us (not exactly small eaters) were very satisfied at the end.

Eating using your hands and the injera is fun, and it's great that they come by with soap and hot water for handwashing just before the food is served.

All in all a great experience with fantastic food for a very low price. Try the ethiopian tea as well, it goes well with the flavours of the food!

Pros: Amazing flavours, Cheap

Cons: Quiet (no background music)

Amazing experience, great food

Very authentic restaurant run by a single Ethiopian lady. She was very kind and attentive. Preparing the meals took some time, as there were 4 orders placed before ours. However, the quality and taste of the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant more than made up for it.

Pros: Lots of vegan options (half of the menu), Very kind personnel, Very cheap

Cons: May take some time

A great address in Leeuwarden

This is a very cozy, simple restaurant close to the centre. Service (by Sarah herself I think) was friendly & quick. I went straight for the mixed vegan plate so didn’t notice all the other options... the mix has 2 lovely lentil dishes and 2 also tasty vegetable preparations. The level of spice can be adjusted. A great option in Leeuwarden!

Pros: Tasty, friendly, affordable

Hidden Gem

Thanks, HappyCow, for docking a star because they aren’t fully vegan. Rude because they deserve five, as the vegan options here are insane and plentiful.
Two page menu, one with meat dishes, one with about 10 vegetarian dishes that happen to also all be vegan. Very cheap for The Netherlands (half the price of the place four doors down!) the flavours were incredible and I definitely recommend the mixed platter to sample the range of flavours. Very simple place with lovely service and delicious food. You eat with your hands too so it’s very authentic but those with a disability may want to bring their own cutlery.

Pros: Incredible food, Very friendly service, Cheap

Cons: Cash or Maestro only
