Great date or brunch spot!! - Edit
Amazing amazing amazing! We went for the vegan brunch which is currently a tasting menu (I think maybe it was a buffet before covid?). There were 8 dishes served in 5 courses. You will end up taking food home.
Read moreEvery dish was delicious. But the heart palm cakes and the chowder really were the All Stars! The cocktails were equally good and cutely decorated.
Prices are on the higher end, but for the quality of the food, the quantity, and the location in DC they were definitely commensurate. Service was lovely and took time to explain the menu.
100% will be back, and would recommend to friends and family (vegans and non-vegans).

What can I say. Horrible place. It was our 12 year anniversary. I booked on Open Table and the menu looked great. Once we arrived we found out they had a special menu for Feb. 15 but it was not posted on Open Table which the restaurant uses for reservations.I have seen special menus on Open Table before but I guess this restaurant was to lazy to post one. The manager with an attitude said the special menu is on their website. I told him I used Open Table. He would not make us anything that was on their normal Menu.

A 5-Star Restaurant! - Edit
Equinox is our go-to eatery when we visit DC. We know that we'll always enjoy a fabulous meal (they have a separate vegan menu) where each course is well-paired with wine. The menu changes periodically; we appreciate the variety offered by the chef. The restaurant is elegant. Staff are friendly and well-trained. It is easy to make reservations at Equinox via phone or OpenTable. I wish that HappyCow allowed a rating of 5 stars because Equinox deserves a 5-star rating!

Great Sunday brunch - all plant-based food. Seating is all indoor but one section has great natural lighting. The brunch is buffet style & has plenty of variety - representing food from different parts of the world & savory & sweet tastes.

The vegan equinox - Edit
I took my husband here for his birthday, and I’m very happy I did. We are both vegans, and were asked if we were when our waiter introduced himself. It’s nice that they take that into consideration. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. He was very helpful in exploring the vegan options for us. The ambience was intimate and relaxing. They served us with food to taste in between our meal, which was a nice touch. The food was absolutely delicious, from appetizer to dessert. Equinox has a great attention to detail, and even gifted my husband a happy birthday card from the staff. I look forward to us coming back, and especially for their vegan brunch. Thanks Equinox!

Our Splurge night - Edit
Friendly and fine dining. This will be be our go to for a nice healthy meal out. Cost is in line with DC dining. We went all out (I wanted a break/reward from cooking). They label items as (PB) - Plant based. We got the Plant Based tasting menu and wine pairings. Whenever we were curious about the food the waiter would tell us. The flavored so wonderfully complex and balanced. Texture too. Easy to bring Omni eaters. 5 stars but it’s not 100% vegan restaurant, so I can’t.

Savory not sweet - Edit
I ventured to equinox for the Sunday brunch so many of the reviews talked about and I have to say that it definitely lived up to expectations and then some.
Read moreFor $35 in a city like D.C. where a vegan wrap in a casual place is over $10, I was not expecting much from an "all you can eat" vegan option. However, the fact that this brunch took place at such a well-regarded restaurant drew me in. The place is small but elegant and offers a lovely outdoor seating area. The staff was extremely kind and efficient.
The buffet featured a nice variety of dishes incorporating culinary flavors from all over the world. Everything from the salad to the gazpacho to the tofu scramble was absolutely delicious. I personally loved the trumpet mushroom soba noodle stir fry the most. The chef achieved a deliciously savory and perfect umami taste in that dish. The tofu scramble, which I was expecting to be either bland or overly spiced as it is at most places, had this subtle flavor I could not identify, but it was absolutely delicious and not overly greasy or watery. The cauliflower tempura so many people mention in their reviews was indeed very tasty, but I did not find it to be my favorite dish. The salads were all incredible--the dressing was amazing and not exaggerated, and the addition of elements like roasted beet or baked artichoke elevated the flavor profiles to a new level. The gazpacho was the best I have ever tried. I also found their multigrain blueberry loaf to be extraordinary. I kept eating the slices plain--despite the myriad spreads available--because it was so tasty on its own.
However, Equinox has not come even close to mastering sweets as well as it masters savory. Everything from the pancakes--which were gummy and flavorless--to any treat on the dessert table--I tried most of them--was terrible. Absolutely terrible. The desserts just tasted like sugar and chemicals. They had no flavor, no richness--just sugar. I could not eat more than a nibble, and actually had the urge to not swallow. I thought at first it was maybe just the one dessert, but I tried the truffles, cheesecake, peanut butter cake, cannoli, and brownies without reaching a different conclusion. It was all absolutely terrible and tasted completely artificial.
Despite the disappointing sweets, I would return to brunch at equinox in a heartbeat. The savory dishes were all absolutely delicious and more than worth the price. A must-go--simply don't save room for dessert.
Pros: Tasty, Nice ambiance, all-you-can-eat
Cons: Terrible desserts

All you-can-eat vegan brunch in the Captial City - Edit
This review regards the weekend vegan brunch buffet. The space is quite small, but they have both indoor and outdoor seating. The brunch buffet had good variety (mini-pancakes, soup, grains, salads, tofu scramble, breads with various toppings, and decadent mini-desserts) and the quality was good. There is also a variety of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available. The staff were attentive and pleasant. Great vegan brunch option in DC.

Menu clearly marks plant based dishes - Edit
I fell into complete love with Equinox. The menu has PB beside every plant based dish. This makes ordering so easy, and the waiters are well informed on the ingredients. Their plant based deserts are to die. I had the cookies with almond milk, and the cookies were still warm and SO tasty. If you choose to dine here, you MUST order the fig soda! It is carbonated and sweet! Also the restaurant has a very relaxing setting with jazz music. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys fine dining!

Equinox's All -Vegan Sunday Brunch is a Winner! - Edit
We go frequently and we always take out-of-town friends when they are on visits in DC. The quality of the food (all vegan) is exceptional, the buffet items are refilled often, and chef Todd Gray personally oversees the food and circulates among the tables. Definitely worth the price; actually a bargain!

outstanding upscale vegan food - Edit
This upscale, welcoming restaurant has fantastic vegan options. Friendly service, great atmosphere (includes a patio with outdoor seating), and about 40% of the menu is plant-based. Very central location so great for both tourists and business travelers. My friend and I went for a delicious candle-lit outdoor dinner and got the tomato-pineapple gazpacho (awesome) hearts-of-Palm "crab cake" and eggplant falafel (delicious). Highly recommended. Note that it's pricey though -- entrees are $20-30.

Bring your omnivore friends - Edit
We have been to the Sunday vegan brunch a number of times, twice with omnivore friends in tow.
Read moreThe buffet is not huge, but there are always plenty of seasonal dishes to fill everyone's belly.
My personal favorite, which often gets return placement on the buffet, is the tempura cauliflower. Soooo tasty!
There is usually a tofu scramble station, sometimes manned by the executive chef himself, where you can get your tofu scramble as you like it. Other dishes are refilled frequently so everything is freshly made. There are also labels on things that are gluten free.
It is really nice to have such an upscale experience, paired with personal attention from the executive chef, who has been in house every time I've visited, and often asks for feedback. Occasionally waiters will even bring around an amuse-bouche to the diners.
I'll be going again!
Pros: Rotating menu so it's not the same every time, Ambience, Service
Cons: Reservations are a must-have, pricy

Good, but at that price it outta be... - Edit
We had a really nice meal here - it is upscale old-school service and decor, which is rare to find in the vegan world. So that felt weird but nice. We were really pleased that the menu contained an entire "plant based" section which was truly vegan, even including deserts. About 3 appetizer oriented items and 3 or 4 mains. The food was very tasty, but this was definitely not health-concious vegan fare; Many items are fried. Tasty, but not so healthy. Overall, though, it was a fun splurge, but definitely a splurge price point too. I would rate this as 4-5 stars for the food and ambiance, but at the $30 entree pricepoint I'm a little more demanding.

The vegan brunch on Sunday is amazing and creative! - Edit
Last Sunday's vegan brunch was the best yet. The tofu scramble table included forest mushrooms, butternut squash, and green onions. The cauliflower tempura is always a hit as well!
Read moreThis brunch included an wonderful quinoa combination, eggplant and mistake mushroom, radicchio salad, vegetable skewers, and one of my favorite new additions--vegan pizza slices. This might have been a pesto version with just the right balance of veggies. So good! I still dream about it.
The pistachio hummus is my new favorite, especially with lavash chips. Sesame crackers could be paired with 12-15 different kinds of toppings, including olive tapenade and red pepper hummus.
The desserts were exceptional. The whoopee pie had sweet tofu, so good it rivaled the best whoopee pie at a Portland, Maine bakery. The cannoli was gone before I could get one, but the double chocolate cupcake was a hit as well.
We are always greeted warmly by Chef Todd Gray and his wife when the doors open for brunch. He later circulates through the restaurant, bringing us a new creation. This time it was falafel with a new twist.
Since it was a birthday celebration for my husband and I, we also received handmade sorbets of mango, coconut, and blood orange. The first two flavors were our favorites. Also we enjoyed the chocolate Happy Birthday wish.
This restaurant is our go-to for birthday and anniversary celebrations, other big moments. I am a vegan and my husband is not. This all-you-can eat $35 Sunday brunch is one we both thoroughly enjoy. This is gourmet cuisine in an elegant setting, with all the food displayed as a feast for the eyes.
I leave each time with new ideas for vegan recipes, reminded that vegan food is far from boring. It can be exceptionally good! Chef Gray gives it the gourmet touch, beautifully combining different flavors.
This has to be one of the best Sunday vegan brunches in the country. And the menu change on a regular basis, surprising us very time.
We already have reservations for an upcoming holiday, which is also when we will celebrate our anniversary. Reservations are a very good idea.
I should note that the regular restaurant offerings do include vegan and vegetarian dishes. There may be a vegan tasting menu as well. My husband and I have tried the Sunday brunch at least five times but haven't tried the regular menu yet.
We just feel so lucky to have an upscale vegan brunch in D.C. The all-you-can-eat part makes us love it even more.
Pros: Gourmet cuisine, very creative, All-you-can-eat vegan cuisine at its best, Cauliflower tempura, tofu scramble always.
Cons: The vegan brunch is only on Sundays., The tofu scramble station used margerine., Raw vegans will find only salad, fruit to eat.

fine dining with vegan menu - Edit
This is a great spot for a date or an elegant fine dining option. They have at vegan menu, and the chef and his wife are very active in the vegan community. I wish the whole restaurant would just be vegan though! They have a separate vegan menu, with several options. It's not cheap, but the food is very beautiful and well prepared and divinely delicious, and the service is excellent, so it's worth it if you are looking for a splurge.
