OK Mexican food

The Vegetarian Fajita and the Vegetarian Red Chili are vegan, just make sure you do not get the sour cream. Portions are a bit small, but overall the food was OK. And it's one of the few places with vegan food in the area that are not Indian.

A lovely surprise!

The location is lovely, seating outside on the harbour as well as lots of seating upstairs.

The staff are amazing! They are super friendly, chatty and knowledgeable. The head chef and her wife, who does front of house, are expanding their vegan offerings to include a new menu of vegan wines and a vegan cheese - they want to attract more vegans so people should definitely try it. They absolutely knew what they were talking about which is so reassuring.

They could veganise almost all the vegetarian dishes and even had vegan cheese. They cook it all to order so can accommodate how spicy you want things too.

A real bonus - would definitely recommend. After reading some older reviews we did not expect much so we have been extra happy 😊.

Portions were huge, the free crispy tortillas with Chipotle sauce were lovely, all the vegetables were fresh and tasty, salsa and guacamole are homemade.

Starters were around 8 euros and the mains were 12/13 euros. Wine from 10 euros.

They even gave us free tequila slammers when we got the bill!

No vegan options

I don’t know why it says on here and trip advisor, and other places etc that the place has vegan options. We turned up there, were given a table by a very snappy and moody woman, then another man brought our menus. I decided to double check with him that they had vegan options and he immediately snapped back at me “no we can’t do anything vegan nothing on the menu is vegan we only do vegetarian” he explained it was because they didn’t have space for another fryer in the kitchen so I’m not sure if they’ve got a fryer for vegetarian and meat options or if they’ve just got one fryer for everything tbh. Possibly meaning even their vegetarian options aren’t very veggie friendly. The woman then saw we were leaving and tried to tell us they COULD do vegan options they just didn’t have them on the menu. I admire the mans honesty as she just seemed desperate to have more customers. Anyway we went down the road to blooming cactus instead and the food was amazing!!! 100% recommend going there not here.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: No vegan options , Snotty staff

Poor

We found the restaurant in the morning, hoping to have an evening meal there in the evening. I’d read lots of good reviews on Happy Cow prior to visiting and was rather hopeful on arrival. Nobody was in the restaurant at the time so we headed to the back where the bar was to enquire about possible vegan menus. A woman approached us and we asked her for options etc, but she had no idea what a vegan was, and then I tried to explain (as best I could in broken Spanish) that it meant no meat, no fish, no dairy and no eggs but she still didn’t understand and then offered me a chicken salad. Completely unconvinced, we left and found a restaurant elsewhere which made amazing vegan paella!! (Casa Rojo which is on the harbour/sea front of the old town)

Cons: Waitress didn’t even know what a vegan was 🤨

Very good food

I love this place! When I lived on Lanzarote for 5 months this was one of my favourite places to eat. They got new menus some months ago and they are easier to read than the old ones, so it is easy to see how spicy the dish is. They make their own salsa and chips, which is so tasty.
Whenever I go to Lanzarote I always have to eat here.

Pros: vegetarian menu, excellent food, good value

Cons: straws in the drinks, some unexperienced staff

Okay for vegans

I was really excited to come here but was sadly disappointed. I asked about vegan options and was told that the guacamole was vegan so ordered some along with my meal and whilst waiting for the food I read that the guacamole contained cream so called the waitress over to point it out and tell her not to serve it. This left me feeling a little angry and very uneasy about eating the meal as I was then wondering if they were serving me things that they thought were vegan when indeed they weren't. I am so lucky that I didn't eat the guacamole! I would be much happier if the people preparing my meal were more aware of what vegans do and don't eat. I ordered the potato and refried beans starter without the cheese which was delicious! But my main meal of enchiladas was in my view a child sized portion and I left feeling hungry and miffed! With there being a vegetarian and vegan restaurant just down the road from here (Blooming Cactus)then I would say just go there instead!

Side note: there were leather table cloths which made me feel yucky. Not sure if they were real or not though.. didn't really want to ask

Cons: Staff unsure of what vegans can eat, small portions, Guacamole NOT vegan

Tastiest in town

An oasis of flavour in a town of bland resort food. The menu has a whole separate vegetarian section - OK it consisted of veggie versions of all the Mexican staples, but it felt considerate, and fitted with the whole ambience of the place which was quietly welcoming and comfortable.

Pros: Veggie version of all dishes, Full of flavour, Pleasant service

Cons: Wine by the airline-sized bottle
