rude rude rude

Possibly the rudest server ever encountered. All done with a smile. Horrid. No flexibility in the kitchen. Trendy menu. Nothing near worthy of the high price point. Ok if in desperate need of a vegetarian restaurant. But plenty of better alternatives in the area.

Well-located vegan restaurant with many options

We went back to eLOVate about two weeks ago, after a poor service experience the first time. While the food was still the same good quality, service was far superior to our previous trip. We sat at the bar this time, and dishes were generally well-timed to when we finished one, the others would come out a few minutes later. We were heading to a comedy show afterward, so we especially appreciated the timing.

At the recommendation of the server, we got the maitake mushroom skewers (really well-flavored, a tang with a bit of heat). The mushrooms were served atop a bed of a salad, but it was more of a vinegar'd cole slaw. This went well with the mushroom, making a nice acidic dish. We again got the jackfruit tacos - a generous serving of jackfruit with creamy guacamole on top, as well as the pesto pasta (very garlicy - the flavor lingered - but there was a lot of sauce on the pasta, which was appreciated). We finished with their chocolate cake, which we again asked to be served with ice cream. This time the server went out of her way to make the ice cream the right consistency - a nice, creamy vanilla - not icy at all and surprisingly similar to the texture of regular vanilla, and it was also a very good serving, three small scoops. When paired with the chocolate cake, the two mixed very nicely.

Overall, the experience was much more pleasant this time!

Pretty Good

Stopped in here for lunch and it was empty. Such a shame because their food is delicious. We had the ceviche nachos, which don't look that appetizing but were delicious! I had the grilled veg sandwich which was perfect. The pesto was tasty and the veggies cooked well, but it was a bit too oily. Hubs has the burger and fries which was really good. Will definitely return!

Yummy Lunch

I had read about this place opening on happycow for weeks now, and finally had a chance to come by for a meal. Here's my Elovate review.

The location is lovely, beachside and right across the street from the park. The decor is California chic and features lots of reclaimed wood and things (I was told). Nice space.

My friend and I sat outside on the patio and enjoyed a tasty lunch. We shared the grilled vegetable sandwich, the faux crab cakes entree, and the poutine. Everything was flavorful.

The grilled vegetable sandwich came with choice of side fries or salad. The veggies were well-seasoned and grilled with slight char, and the bread was so fresh mmm... I really enjoy this. $14

The poutine is fries in a mushroom-wine reduction gravy with bits of almond cheese curd. It was interesting and unusual for me (first try), though the more bites I took the more I wanted to just finish the whole thing (which I did). $10

The faux crab cakes entree featured 2 cakes with an orange sauce (not sure what kind it was) over a small bed of well-prepared cabbage slaw, a few pieces of grilled zucchini, a few pieces of potato wedges. The cakes were not the store-bought kind of mock meat but a home-made/self-prepared kind with real ingredients. The slaw was refreshing, the potato wedges were cooked perfected, the zucchini, too. I really enjoyed this plate as well. $17

Overall, for this location and this tasty food, I would consider it as moderately priced. It is after-all, in the newest chic part of Santa Monica.

Pros: good cooking, good flavors, good location

Simply Amazing

I ordered the Thai bowl and a flight of freshly pressed juice and everything was delicious. The location of this restaurant is easy to get to and the entire staff was delightful. I love that everything is vegan, but also local and organic. I'll definitely be back! The price point was reasonable as well.

Good Food

I had dinner a few days ago at eLOVate, the newest vegan restaurant that I know of in LA. I love the atmosphere at this restaurant, and the patio makes for a perfect place to bring a date or hang with friends in the evening. They also have a bar inside.

The service here is exceptional, and I love that all of the ingredients are organic. I realize that purchasing all-organic ingredients is very costly, and I am willing to pay more to have organic food, but I feel the food here is very average overall. I ordered a nacho dish with hearts of palm and the vegan "scallops". The description on the menu led me to believe this restaurant was going to be just amazing, but I found the food I had to be very average.

If I go again, I will try the crab cake, as that also sounds delicious.

I want to see this place succeed, as they seem to have a lot of integrity, but I would recommend that they either hire a new chef and create a new menu, or perhaps the chef can just create more exciting and flavorful dishes.

Pros: Lovely atmosphere, Attentive service

Cons: Overpriced, Food is average tasting

Nice new option in Santa Monica

Great that this all-vegan place opened! It's just near the Santa Monica Pier and adds an excellent upscale option to the area since Make Cuisine moved to Abbott Kinney.
I only had a little time to stop in (not a relaxed meal) and tried the jackfruit tacos and the nachos, but will be back soon to try other options.
The menu is interesting and seems to have something for everyone. The nachos were quite tasty, but $12 for about 12 chips was just ridiculously expensive imho. Tacos were also quite good, but not much food for $15. I know I'm paying for the location and ambiance, not just the food, but since this place is just starting out I'm concerned that's the one thing that might limit their customer base and hurt their business. Hope they'll recognize this fact soon.

Pros: Beautiful space, Great location, Nice options

Cons: Portions could be bigger

Great new upscale vegan

One block from Santa Monica Pier. Great to be able to spend the day at the beach and walk to an excellent vegan restaurant. Dijon Chicken was well prepared, poutine was tasty, and house made chocolate ice cream was perfect. We'll be back
