A surprising selection - Edit

Admittedly I was surprised to see this restaurant listed, as it really is a traditional diner, not somewhere any of us would seek out. In my mind this is the type of place one goes with hard core carnivores, or those in need of “hangover food” or “post pub fare”. While there are vegetarian options, when I was last there, and asked about vegan options, I got a bit of a blank look. Also the staff didn’t know off hand the incredients in the items. While able to eventually order what was deemed a vegan meal, I definitely detected a meaty flavour, indicating no separation while cooking. And since there are so many meat specialties, the aromas of cooked meats permeate the air, likely to draw customers in, but not particularly appealing to vegetarians or vegans. All in all, a place one goes to when carnivores are leading the charge, but hard core vegans options are limited.

Pros: Well priced, large portions , Extended opperating hours , Ready to fill the appetites of the post pub crowd

Cons: Eau de meat assails the senses, Limited vegan selections , Limited to fruit for breakfast.

Elgin st diner has super tasty veggie poutine, you can I also order gravy & fries to make it vegan :)

delicious and veg friendly - Edit

They have some great veg food and as a vegan i got a sandhich without mayo and cheese without issue! Talked to the owner and even the gravy and soups are all meat free! Oh and so are the baked beans! Awesome!

Great - Edit

I had the grilled vegetable club - without cheese or mayo - and the vegetable soup. The server was really accommodating and knew which options were vegan.

Pros: Accommodating to vegans, Clear ingredients on menu, open 24/7

Cons: dingy, hole-in-the-wall, very casual
