3 visits. Each one worse

First two times I got the black bean chalupas with no cheese. Each time I asked for hot sauce and they offered me Tabasco (at a Mexican restaurant in Houston!) the first time they then offered me house made hot sauce which was great! Second time I asked for the house made sauce and was told that it takes too much time for them to make. Third time I decided to branch out and get the spinach veggie enchiladas. When ordering I asked if the could be made without dairy, and I specified no butter, sour cream, cream, or cheese. They arrived and I cut into them and the inside was very obviously creamy. I asked the waiter and he said that the spinach veggie mix was pre-prepared with cream and then frozen and couldn’t be altered. He was very rude with me when I sent it back and ordered Reg black bean chalupa without cheese. Service just seems out out by customers there.

Stick with the Beans and Rice

Having been to the other El Tiempo location on Westheimer, I had high hopes for this location when a fajita craving struck.

At the other location, they didn't bat an eye when I asked for the veggie fajitas, no oil and no sour cream. No Sour Cream. These guys seemed so confused and my waiter even came by to ask, "how are your vegetables?"

The other location served asparagus, portobella mushrooms, among the typical peppers. This location just had peppers and onions. But! The vegan refried black beans and rice are stellar at both so next time, I'll know to just build my own rice and bean tacos and save my $30 when at the Washington location.

Pros: Vegan refried black beans and rice!

Cons: $30 for pepper and onion fajitas? No thanks.

One of my top 2 mexican spots

I just recently discovered the veggie chalupas and I'm hooked! Rice & Beans are both meat free. Veggie fajitas are good too, but the chalupa is currently on repeat order for me. Good for both vegans and non.
