Egyptian
Local eatery serving only one dish: traditional Egyptian koshary dish. It's typically made of chickpeas, lentils, fried onions, rice, small noodles, and is almost always vegan (though some places have taken to adding meat, so be careful when ordering elsewhere). Simple upstairs dining room and basic service. Specify if you want small, medium, or large size. Location is just east of Midan Tahrir (Tahrir Square). Nearest metro station is Sadat. Open Mon-Sun 12:00am-12:00am.

Oh my so good. - Edit
30 years ago I was a student in Cairo and we ate Koshary regularly. My first time back a colleague ordered Koshary al Tahrir for me and so good.

Delicious, filling and cheap! - Edit
I went there many times during my stay in Cairo, I loved their koshery and if you buy it as a take away there are ingredients listed on everything so you can be sure it's vegan😄

Cheap, quality Koshary - Edit
Recommend for a quick, easy and cheap eat. 2nd level is a sit down eatery, they present you a menu in English & Arabic to choose your size, any extras and drinks. Food comes out pretty quick, mix in the sauce yourself and sprinkle on the free fried onion flakes add additional spice. Price between 20-40 EGP each depending on size.

El Tahir - Edit
Nice Koshary! This is more fast-causal compared to Abu Tarek, which is a more relaxed restaurant experience. You can choose from several sizes here too, which I liked. Great quick option.

Best food I had in Egypt - Edit
This place serves both koshary and some rice pudding deserts (not sure if vegan.) The koshary is amazing and the best I had in Egypt. You can see them packaging up the sauce fresh for the take away. Extremely reasonable prices too and the staff spoke English.

Pretty good - Edit
Portions are alright. The chili could’ve been hotter but the onions were incredible and the service was very nice

Good and cheap Koshari - Edit
Very nice Koshari. You just go to the 2nd floor to eat in, sit and enjoy. Different sizes of Kosharis, very cheap and delicious!

tasty Koshari! - Edit
they’re just offering Koshari as only dish. Basic small eatery, nothing fancy but tasty. Locals go there for having lunch. It’s open while Ramadan. Price is 25 EGP for one medium Koshari - the portion is big and they have homemade lemon- and chilli-sauce. Would go there again.

Down-home food - Edit
We ate on the ground floor of the branch by Tahrir square...the cook was right behind the counter, dishing out koshari. At lunch time, people were dashing in and out, but we took our time. We ordered Medium, which was filling and mostly pasta rice, with a bit of lentils and chickpeas. A small dish of tomato sauce is served with it and bottles of hot sauce and lemon juice are on the table. The hot sauce is VERY hot, as my husband found the hard way. It was very inexpensive. The decor is quite sterile, but I would recommend the place for a quick and filling vegan lunch.

Decent Koshary - Edit
It's nice, filling, and cheap, but the quality totally depends on the location. The one in Maadi isn't too good, whereas the one by the North Coast next to Marassi is really delicious! Make sure to ask for extra tomato sauce cause they're not too generous with it.

Good, filling meal near Midan Tahrir - Edit
Kushari is one of the few traditional Egyptian meals that is almost always vegan (other than some mezze), and many people consider Koshary El Tahrir the best kushari joint in Cairo. The location is two short blocks east of the now-famous Midan Tahrir (aka Tahrir Square, even though it's a circle...)
Read moreService and atmosphere are bare-bones but convivial and authentic and the food will fill you up for hours of exploring Cairo. Three sizes are offered, but only the most perseverant diners would be likely to make it through the large, so i might suggest starting with a small or medium.
Enjoy!
Pros: Filling, Tasty, Cheap
Cons: Only one dish available
