Beautiful restaurant with history

Very nice and cosy restaurant. The people are very friendly and welcoming. Traditional food, the restaurant has been around for decades. Ask about the history with the owners, very touching.

Very nice place

They do not have a menu.. There are only a few dishes that change every day i think.
But what i ate was very nice! I liked it :)

Quantity over quality

The serving of food for meal of the day was very big. So big that we shared. The quality was lacking though being a mound of soya mince, rice and a small salad. The plate comes with a soup and a cold tea drink. Not tasty and bland. Suggest they cut size and add some more variety and taste to the servings.

Place was popular and nice. Service was reasonable but owner was there at the time.

Pros: Quantity

Cons: Quality

Nice natural store, good food

They have a nice natural store at the entrance woth lots of vegan products and some supplements. They also have some backery products. When I was there they had vegan Apple Cupcakes with full corn flour. But i didn't taste. And they have vegan cheese made of almonds. Couldn't try it because it was sold out. So its probably good. :)
Had a manu de dia for 14mil. The service is very nice. They know their menu and products well and will be happy to tell you the ingredients. Its easy to have a vegan meal here. The menu de dia wasn't that special but tasty.

Pros: Nice service, know their products well, All with vegan option, Nice store

Cons: Prices quite high

Old-style vegetarian

Well, technically you can replace meat with soy, you give it different shapes and you get a vegetarian alternative, but a good chef would create something new out of the ingredients they want to use, instead of taking an old recipe and replacing things with soy.
This place has a traditional feel, not hipster at all, and they have a few decent options in the menu.
The real pearl here is the mini market at the entrance. They offer many natural/vegan products that you don’t find easily in Barranquilla.

Pros: All-vegetarian, Fresh, Mini market

Cons: Meat is replaced with soy, Too much salt, Too much soy

Natural foods store and restaurant

El Huerto has been around for decades. They have always, and still do, make their own extra firm tofu. It is a clean, beautiful setting that you will enjoy. The food is macrobiotic (hasn't changed since the '80s probably), and is delicious. you will not regret visiting El Huerto, it is a gem in Barranquilla.

Nice vegetarian place in Barranquilla

They offer vegetarian Smallville Colombian pastries (empanadas) and lasagnas. I got a seitan steak, it was tasty but it was the unique available lunch option. It was a nice surprise to find this kind of vegetarian options in Barranquilla.

Pros: Nice environment, friendly staff, they offer break

Cons: There are few options for lunch.

Delicious menu del dia

From its unassuming facadé and semi-formal dining area to the small walk-through tienda offering soy-based items and other products, El Huerto is a Barranquilla landmark of many years. Enjoy any of their weekly menu del dia lunches, typically served with soup, a hot entree, side dish, salad and beverage (tea), for about $12,000 COP. Shop the little tienda or enjoy a taste of the day's special dessert as you leave this hidden oasis of healthy options.

Pros: Clean, comfortable dining area, Friendly, attentive staff, Good prices and they deliver!

Cons: Tienda could offer more soy-based meats

Good food, awful service

We were really excited when we arrived at El Huerto - it has a lovely, shady courtyard with a fountain, which was perfect for lunch on a hot Caribe day - soup, seitan, rice and salad, plus a ridiculously sweet ice tea. Unfortunately, the service was the most notable aspect - as a person has commented below, the waiter was shockingly rude, refusing to provide us basic information (such as what was in the lasagna), slamming down our dishes as they arrived, glaring at us, etc.

Average food

To me, the food was average and uninspired. I went twice while I was in town and it was fairly busy both days. One of the days I went, it was Mexican day, with Mexican soup, brown rice, refried beans, pico de gallo, Mexican salad and a drink. The service was not friendly, and quite honestly, bordering on rude... maybe you'll have better luck. They only have a meal of the day... no menu to order from. They do have a monthly menu printed out and you can pick and choose which days you might want to eat here. I found a better place in Barranquilla and would choose that place over this one.

Pros: Location, Price good, Delivery available

Cons: Service not that great, Food not very tasty

decent

el huerto is a typical colombian vegetarian restaurant. not a large selection of vegan items, but some decent options. they also have a small health food store and a takeaway counter. the empanadas i sampled were excellent.
