Very good bread although a bit pricey but worth it

They have a few locations in Madrid, their breads are really good and it’s one of the only places where I found “pan de molde” (sandwich bread) which is vegan: instead of the butter or milk they use olive oil. They also have a protein bread which is delicious although super expensive. It’s a pity that they don’t have any vegan pastry option.

Always an Option

With a cycling assortment of vegan Spanish classics, El Horno de Babette stands as a dependable (although not fully vegan) bakery option for vegans.

We chose the vegan potato bread and the empanada. Potato bread reminds me of my childhood. I was obsessed, and I have struggled with finding it since I went vegan. A pan-baked loaf—the bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We toasted it in a pan with olive oil to highlight its crispy texture. The vegetable empeñada, filled with peppers, onions, and mushrooms, impressed. The seed-sprinkled crust added substance to the already simple crunchy crust, balancing the chewy and crunchy textures perfectly.

Although some will search for bakeries with more options, El Horno de Babette continually provides high-quality options
