My FAVE vegan place in SLO! - Edit
We love Ebony! All vegan (& gluten free) menu. Super delicious food. Beautiful decor, very casual setting, order at the counter, can sit inside or outside on the beautiful creekside patio. Love that they're open with a full menu now and do family style plates for sharing. The Injera bread is light and springy and fantastic, made with teff. The standout for us is the spicy misir wot (red lentil dish). Other favorites are the goman (kale & onions), defen misur alicha wot (green lentils) and denech alicha wot (potatoes & carrots). Also the Ethiopian tea is a must for me, has such a delicious cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon flavor. A must visit location, supporting a women-owned local small business ❤️

Big Flavor! - Edit
We can officially say we LOVE Ethiopian food! I have been hearing of this place for awhile and we finally gave it a try. This is definitely one of my new favorite restaurants. The injera was out of this world and we stuffed ourselves silly. Go here. It’s great.

Flavorful, efficient and excellent portions - Edit
I shared a “half order” c my wife, which includes around 150g of injera & two dishes (there were many choices; we chose misir wot (a thick spiced lentil stew) & I believe shiro wot (a garbanzo-based thick stew)) of perhaps 100g each. The injera was just as it is meant to be: slightly sour (less-so than others I’ve had; I like the full spectrum of sours, so this is neither positive nor negative in my estimation), spongy (injera is the best juicy-flavor absorber I know of any cuisine😄) & fresh; the dishes were wonderfully spiced & tasty & complex (I’m not terribly schooled in Ethiopian flavorings, so most dishes qualify as “complex” for me😄). The portion sizes may sound small (they add up to perhaps 2 000kJ all told), but I found them ideal: I came away refreshed by the meal rather than, as one so often ends up in establishments that emphasize quantity, feeling weighed-down & over-stuffed. This can only cut down on waste, which is no small matter if you’re in the vegan game to lessen your ecological impact. Speaking of which, the plates are compostable, but only in the sense that they are un-bleached paper that will break down relatively quickly in landfill. The 15ml (big!) wooden spoon & 200ml (small!) water cup were re-usable.

Ebony is an ideal café stop if you’re cycling a loop from L.C.d.l.O. or Morro Bay or 5 Cities (they’re all roughly 20km - 25km away, depending on route), another benefit to the portion sizes that won’t be lead in your stomach afterward =)

Flavorful and Satisfying - Edit
The food here is so tasty and healthy! I love that it's 100% vegan, gluten-free, and organic. It is consistently delicious. It feels good to support a woman-owned, poc-owned business. Co-owner, Feben, is the one who takes your order. She is a delight to speak with. The restaurant is currently moving to its new location on Higuera Street and will be open four days per week, Thursday through Sunday.

The best vegan food I've had! - Edit
Wow! This place is a gem! With a fully vegan, organic menu we had to stop and try and I am so happy that we did! We ordered the spicy lentils, potatoes & carrots with turmeric and the sautéed mushrooms and it was all heavenly! Their menu changes based on what's in season and we can not wait to come back and try different things. We took the recommendation to share a large portion between two of us and it was the perfect amount of food. We almost ebded up ordering more, just because it all tasted so good, not because we actually needed to eat again. Highly recommend checking out Ebony!

Delicious and Fresh, but... - Edit
Everything was served in these TV-dinner plastic containers for some reason, and their "meal for two," is really a meal for one, so we ended up getting two meals with three items each, but $70 is a lot to pay for lentils, ya know? Yes, it's delicious and fresh and a much-needed addition to San Luis Obispo's vegan options, but as much as I'd love to go keep going back, it's way overpriced.

Spicy Vegan - Edit
A previous review said service was slow, but my food came up a few minutes after I sat down at the picnic table. Maybe it was because it was 1:30 on a Thursday, and I was the only one sitting at that picnic table. I got the half order ($21) which included two "wots" and some injera bread. Spicy Misir Wot is amazing, a lentil stew exploding with flavors (caramelized onion, garlic, ginger, berbere sauce, and a spice mix of chili peppers, cardamom, thyme and more). I'm told Friday is the busy day, and there is more variety to the menu (there were four choices on the Thursday menu). We need more vegan food this good in SLO!

So glad we found this very new restaurant - Edit
We don't live close enough to go often, but we would if possible. They are just excellent. They seem to be very new and opened to take-out (no indoor dining, tiny patio) but we were very glad to have an opportunity to support them in these early stages.
