not really vegetarian

We ordered vegan versions of several dishes. After my wife noticed a fish sauce taste in the vegetarian dishes we ordered the waitress confessed that the cooks aren't strict about avoiding it. She said that there was really only one dish that the cooks made that could be trusted.

Pros: honest, helpful staff, convenient location, NIce surroundings

Cons: the fact that we were fed dishes with fish sauce, our request for veg dishes was not honored, the fact that the business doesn't seem to care

Decent Proctor Option

I have never fully understood the popularity of East West Cafe among Tacomans generally and among the veg set specifically. That said, it is a perfectly fine option if you find yourself in Proctor and don’t feel like eating at Viva. Or you find yourself out with an aforementioned East West fan who won’t be moved on trying a different spot!😄

Awesome

This is my favorite restaurant in Tacoma. A ton of things can be made vegan and the flavors are great. They can do Thai iced tea and Vietnamese coffee with coconut milk, vegan fried wontons, fresh rolls with tofu and most of their entrees can be made vegan. The grilled tofu is the best tofu I have ever had. I highly recommend!!!

Pros: Lots of vegan entrees, Vegan drinks, Vegan deserts

Cons: None

Disappointing

I have to give it a 1 star as it was so unappetizing I could hardly manage to eat 1/2 of it. I won’t go back as there so many better options in the area. The garlic was definitely not fresh (from a jar) which I’ve always found disgusting with a bad aftertaste. The veggies and tofu also did not seem fresh - as if it was reheated.

Pros: Big portion sizes , Brown rice available

Cons: Garlic from a jar (not fresh cloves), Strange, thick, sweet sauce, Veggies and tofu didn’t taste fresh
