Tofu

Ok, so choice here is your standard veg option in a Chinese restaurant in the province: Tofu or mixed veg in sauce. You likely know what you're getting into, and they do it ok. If going tofu would recommend you get without a watery sauce as that tends to make it soggy.

Otherwise this is cheaper and usually faster than most local takeaways.

Like squidgy tofu?

A recent and laudable addition to the list of tofu - serving takeaways in NI. I say this as someone who remembers when the only vegan/veg option most similar places did was “mixed vegetable” - ie a meat dish without the meat!
Sadly the fried tofu here is cubed and squidgy, no matter how it is served. This might be a consequence of their use of polystyrene serving containers. There is no depth of flavour to make up for it.
There are also veg gyozas available, which I have not tried.
A tofu dish, with included rice will set you back about £7. My suggestion for those able to travel is to try the extensive vegan range from Finaghy’s China Express.

Pros: Tofu!

Cons: … from the 80s!
