Vegan options clearly labeled, great food - Edit
I visit the area twice a year and the previous visit after the move to the new location seemed that the menu had shrunk and there was only one option but visiting August 2024 the menu has multiple vegan options back as sandwich or pizza and the vegan Antipasto. The Paul McCartney pizza is so good I almost wish I’d tried it as a sandwich too! You can also build your own vegan pizza.
Read moreThe staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about vegan items and the atmosphere is still good and perhaps a little more upscale than the previous location. Donnie’s will stay on my must revisit list
Re: red sauce issue, I didn’t ask about the possible parm in red sauce mentioned below but the vegan option I had on the menu didn’t have sauce anyway

A separate vegan section on the menu in a vegan free town - Edit
Donnie's is the only restaurant I have found in Decatur that has a large variety of vegan options, in fact, they have a vegan section on their menu. The vegan Gyro is great, they offer vegan cheese for their pizza the atmosphere is fun and the food is delicious. They just started to serve brunch on weekends which also offers vegan options. the tofu scramble is outstanding.

Cons: Thee is nothing I dislike about the restaurant.

Great vegan options - Edit
Several vegan and vegetarian options listed. I ordered carry out, but looked like a great place to hang out for the evening. The vegan gyro was surprisingly spicy. I loved it, but if you are sensitive to mild-medium hot sauces, it might not be for you. The falafel was also good. Both came with a side of tortilla chips and their house made hummus.

Small town feel, big town food - Edit
So nice to have a vegan options in town!! My friends and I went for a nice dinner on a Thursday night and were thrilled at how many options there were for us (1 vegan, 2 vegetarians). We’ll definitely be back. I didn’t eat any pizza but I’ll definitely try their vegan cheese next time I go!
Read morePros: Good amount of vegan sandwiches/ wraps , You could make any pizza vegan , Homemade hummus!!!
Cons: No music but it could be because it was Thursday

Small but good options. - Edit
Edited September 2018 to add that Donnie's has expanded their vegan options, including vegan cheese for the pizzas! They now have a vegetarian and vegan section, and several vegan appetizers. The seitan gyro is excellent.
Read moreThe atmosphere is great because they are always featuring local art of some sort.
The only downside is that during the school year it can get crowded because of the college, so I tend to go there more during the summer.

Vegetarian Friendly - Edit
Good food. Quite a few vegetarian options. Very limited vegan options. I called one day to ask if their black bean burger had egg in it. They had already thrown the packaging away, so they couldn't tell me for sure. They really need to offer more vegan options on their menu.

Pros: Cute little joint with lots of atmosphere., Sitting outside in warmer weather., Live music available on select days.
Cons: Not enough vegan options., Staff can be inattentive., Music piped over the speakers can be too loud.

NOT vegan - Edit
Nice people. Ok food but NOT vegan.
Read moreI drove over here because another reviewer said they serve vegan pizza made with Daya cheese--not true. I spoke with someone who has worked here since they opened and said they have never served vegan cheese. If your vegetarian they have 2 vegetarian pizza options. But this is NOT a good option for vegans!
Pros: vegetarian options
Cons: NOT vegan

Thanks for checking out Donnie's in Decatur. I am the business manager. We have never advertised that we sell vegan cheese so not sure why false information from another reviewer would warrant a 1 star review. The Donnie's in Springfield served vegan cheese so that may be the confusion. Also, we serve multiple vegan dishes including falafel and a vegan sweet potato wrap. All of our dishes can be customized for vegans and our cooks are trained on the proper way to prepare vegan dishes upon request. We hope you'll give us another try.
