Cute candy shop

Vegan options include dark chocolate covered fruits and nuts, dark chocolate dipped oreos, and gummy fruit slices. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The options for vegans are poor

This review is specifically for the upstairs cafe, where we had lunch.

The menu is not very helpful to vegetarians or vegans. Nothing is labeled (though there is a list of vegetarian sandwiches) and so you need to ask about everything.

Nothing on the menu is vegan without being modified, and you don't have many options. This is a traditional deli and doesn't offer any vegan meats or cheeses, so you're basically limited to a salad or a vegetarian sandwich with the cheese / mayo / etc removed.

A dry sandwich with just a few vegetables on it isn't likely to be very tasty, and so I wouldn't consider Donckers a good first or second choice for vegans visiting Marquette. I requested a dressing on the side just to have something to dip my sandwich in.

Vegans will need to confirm that their bread choice is vegan. Most of the breads (surprisingly, even the sourdough) have dairy in them. I went with the ciabatta for my sandwich and it was quite good. Vegans and vegetarians will need to confirm that their dressing is appropriate; most of the dressings are not even vegetarian because they contain anchovies (even the ones you wouldn't usually expect), which surprised me. The only vegan dressings are the balsamic vinaigrette and the Mediterranean, as of this writing.

Service was extremely slow. Despite arriving around 1:30 on a weekday, after the usual lunch rush, we sat for over an hour before receiving our food. They do helpfully have an allergen menu with a complete list of ingredients for most menu items. I'm adding a star for that as well as the fact that the restaurant does have a bunch of options for vegetarians.

Pros: Allergen menu with ingredient list for everything

Cons: Poor choices for vegans, Extremely slow service

Cute place

Cute old building. Great food & service. I had the garden hash (I think that’s what it was called - not on the menu I see online). Perfect hash browns with grilled zucchini, broccoli, tomatoes and onions. Just had to order without the pesto mayo & eggs. Really good locally sourced jam. Lots of locally sourced items on the menu. My non-vegan husband loved his food, too.

Pleasant surprise

Cute little shop downtown. The employees are very nice. The first floor has candy and the vegan items are labeled, which really surprised me! The dark chocolate dipped Oreos were tasty, but the cranberry pecan bark was fantastic. There were a few other options I didn’t try.

We didn’t get lunch, but the menu had a vegetarian section that had sandwiches that were either vegan or could be easily made vegan. Some had housemade hummus. There was also at least one solid looking vegan entree salad.

Downtown Marquette doesn’t have a ton to cater to vegans, so I was really happy to see this place does.

Pros: Really good bark, Friendly employees , Great location

Cons: Could have some vegan ice cream , Expensive—but this is downtown Marquette after all
