First (and Only?) Vegeterian/Vegan Place in Kostroma

When I went to Kostroma, I tried to find here, on HappyCow, a place to eat, but there was none! I thought that I would have to settle for veg options in regular restraunts, but lo and behold, I turned to Google and found Dobro Cafe. It's a tiny place with only 3 tables. The menu is in Russian only but the staff is ready to help you with your choice. The menu is surprisingly diverse for such a small cafe. Breakfast section contains oatmeal (can be made with dairy or non-dairy milk) and syrniki (small fried pancakes usually made from cottage cheese; Dobro Cafe makes them from tofu, and they are pretty delicious!). Then you have several salad options, several soup options and several wrap options. I tried their Shuba-Dooba salad, a vegan version of Russian dish called "Herring under a Fur Coat" (it's a layered salad made from herring, potatoes, carrots, beetroots and mayo). In Shuba-Dooba herring is replaced with Nori seaweed. I was a fan of that dish in my non-vegan years, so I was very curious to try this vegan version and I liked it a lot. Then we had spicy indian (I think) soup, and it was spicy PROPER, not for the weak (we like spice though). And then we had two wraps with tofu and falafel and what not, and they were huge! So in the end we were pretty stuffed😄The staff was very kind and friendly, they wanted to give us some relular visitor card (you know, get 10th wrap for free, that kind of thing), but as we were only visiting this city and didn't have plans to return in the near future, it was no use for us, but nethertheless it was very kind and nice of them!:) And if we ever visit Kostroma again, we'll definitely will come to eat at the Dobro Cafe.
