Overrated Indian Food - Edit
I've been wanting to try Dishoom for a long time due to the large selection of vegan items, however I was unimpressed by the food. I've definitely had better Indian food, and found most of the dishes tasted oily and bland.
Read moreI've rated it 3 stars because it was ok but I wouldn't be in a rush to go back. I ordered samosas, okra fries, Chole Puri, gunpowder potatoes and Vada Pau.
The samosas and okra fries were really nice. The Chole Puri was bland and strange, I didn't like the gravy-like richness of the chickpeas and found it didn't taste much like a curry. The gunpowder potatoes were disgustingly greasy, far too much oil was used and I didn't enjoy the taste at all. The Vada Pau comes in a bun and tasted alright but not sure of the authenticity of it. To drink I ordered the vegan rose lassi, made with oat milk, which was very nice.
They really don't have many curries available for an Indian restaurant. I went here with my Bengali friend who was equally unimpressed.

Good vegan menu - Edit
Lots of great options on the vegan menu, and the staff were very knowledgeable. I had a vada pau, Kala chana salad and samosas and they were all really good, especially the Kala chana which was perfect on a hot day. It was definitely hard to pick what to eat because there was so muchid like to try so it's definitely a chain I'd revisit.

Go for breakfast! Kid-friendly - Edit
Went here with my family and they were great with my toddlers. My 15-month old loved the porridge! They have a vegan menu (same as the one previously added to the pictures here) and a kid’s menu that has vegan options.

Great breakfast - Edit
We ordered the vegan breakfast and it was really good. I didn't really like the sausage but my friend loved it so I guess it appeals to different people! I loved the black pudding alternative instead though. Overall the meal was enjoyable, I'm just not sure I liked the vibe of the location much, it felt too much like a cafeteria to me. Staff were great, however.

Excellent vegan breakfast - Edit
There are some really great vegan breakfast options here. The naan sausage roll is fantastic, the sausages are really flavoursome and the bread is lovely. The full breakfast is also delicious and hearty. There are free refills on the oat chai as well, which is a nice bonus.

Brunch nice but overpriced - Edit
Had the full vegan cooked breakfast here, which was tasty but super salty so drink lots of water with it! Overall the menu was overpriced for what was on offer. Would probably try here again for dinner sometime.

Great vegan breakfast - Edit
Loved that this place has a full vegan breakfast. The tofu scramble was flavourful and the buns were delicious. We also loved the bottomless chai — we got it with oat milk and it was super creamy and rich. Service was great and the decor felt like a fancy hotel. We will definitely visit again next time we’re in London.

Busy, popular restaurant with large selection - Edit
The regular menu seems to have a very large selection of starters and mains and items to share, but the vegan menu is a little less organized with fewer options. It was confusing to me what was considered starters and mains, but it all turned out to be small plates. We ordered the Okra Fries, Vada Pau, Kala Chana Salad and Roomali Rota. For dessert we had the Kala Khatta Gola Ice and the Basmati Kheer.
Read moreNothing seemed to be that notable to me, but it was sufficient for what it was. It wasn't bad, but again, nothing really stood out. Our waiter seemed to steer us away from the Kala Khatta Gola Ice as he said most people who ordered it left it after the first taste, but I actually enjoyed it.
We had what was supposed to be a 40 minute wait which ended up being 20 minutes, which is good, but when we were directed to the bar area to wait, there were conflicting messages we got from a few of the staff. There didn't seem to be good communication which seemed odd for such a popular and busy restaurant. I would think they'd have that down if they often had that much business.
Another con was the restaurant was incredibly hot. We noticed as we were being seated that there were several fans placed about the dining area, so not sure if the a/c was not working. When we left, the air got much cooler around the bar area, closer to the entrance/exit.
Pros: Vegan menu!
Cons: Confusing menu, Lack of cooling (broken a/c?), Somewhat disorganized staff

Our Favorite Meal in London - Edit
We came here the evening we arrived to London, then talking constantly about how good it was for the next 6 days we were there. Super busy so either reserve a table early or be prepared to wait. The service was excellent, our waiter was an artist. They had a whole vegan menu, and the waiter was very knowledgeable about veganism.

Plenty of options. Excellent service. - Edit
I was really impressed with their vegan options for breakfast. I’ve never had breakfast at an Indian restaurant. So it made for a nice change. Food was good. Prices are excellent considering the location and the quality of the restaurant.

Dishoom - Edit
I like this location because it's not as crazy busy and it's close to where I live. Bonus is that it's basically next door neighbors with Whole Foods Kensington (the best Whole Foods in London) if you need to drop by there for whatever reason. Below is my review that applies to all Dishoom locations. I've been to all the locations in London and they are very consistent.

People really love, or are really disappointed by, Dishoom. I think there's a bit of level-setting as to what you can expect here. Firstly, Dishoom is not a typical Indian restaurant, so if you're having a craving for your favorite Indian dish you can find at almost any Indian restaurant, check Dishoom's menu first! Dishoom offer elevated, creative, and sometimes unique dishes and it seems they continue to add more vegan options (e.g., they recently added mango lassi and naan). The black daal made vegan is delicious, as is the gunpowder potatoes dish. Samosas are a great option too. You'll also find many dishes at Dishoom that you likely will not find at other Indian restaurants. It's a great experience and a good place to have a meal at a nice restaurant.
