Sesame Noodles and Dumplings - Edit
What's not to enjoy about Din Tai Fung? This is a gorgeous location in a busy part of town but still well maintained and worth the trek up for good dumplings.
Read moreGreat variety of vegan/plant-based options so there's something for everyone. The sesame spinach noodles, string beans, and previously enjoyed dumplings are some of the standouts here. Sadly there are still no vegan XLB to be had but I'm sure it'll come in due time.
Sadly, they forgot about my vegan dumplings and I didn't have the heart to try and ask for them once everyone had already finished. A small ding on what was already a nice meal.
Reservations are a must and be prepared to sit down and enjoy a nice meal with great service.
Pros: Clearly marked vegan items

I have to say that the food was meh. But the service was so wonderful. I does have several vegan options but honestly they all have the same ingredients.

Best vegan dumplings - Edit
They have a separate vegan menu on the website.
Read moreGreat dumplings and Xiao long baos. All their veggie options - beans or greens - sauteed with garlic taste amazing. The wonton soup is comforting in winter. However, the noodles tend to be bathing in oil

5 stars! - Edit
Din Tai Fung has a plethora of clearly labeled vegan options and they are all delicious. Make a reservation, esp for weekend dining, as this place is extremely popular. Favors: soy noodle salad, spicy wontons, and Shanghai rice cakes 😋

Surprisingly many vegan options! - Edit
Went here with family and they are all Carnivores. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there are many vegan options on the menu in each section. It would be nice if the vegan options had a bit more of flavor variety in the dumplings area. The spicy noodles were sooo good and not too spicy like you would worry about.

Mushroom Salad - Edit
Turned to Happy Cow when looking for a lunch place when visiting Union Bay Natural Area. Din Tai Fung-46th St is in the University Village, up the escalator by Tesla. We sat at the bar and had a view of the Village. We ordered the Wood Ear Mushroom Salad and Vegetable Buns, and were happy with both. The mushroom salad reminded me of a White Sea weed salad from a Japanese restaurant in Dallas, TX. Vinaigrette was light with the perfect acidity and the goji berries a pleasant sweet surprise. The texture is gelatinous and crunchy. I didn’t get a picture of the buns. The presentation was in a bamboo steamer and the buns about 3” diameter. I dipped them in the vinegar from the table condiments and my husband ate them with chili oil. We both found them pillowly with the right amount of filling. Overall happy with our choices and satisfied our hunger.

Good but could be better - Edit
The rice cakes and veggies are probably their best vegan options. The dumplings and wontons are fine but I would expect more from a place that specializes in dumplings. They’re not very flavorful and don’t have vegan soup dumplings or vegan kimchi dumplings
Read morePros: Clearly marked options, Variety of vegan dishes
Cons: No vegan soup dumplings, No vegan kimchi dumplings

Veggies, rice cakes, and the vegan buns are my go-to at DTF. Im not a fan of the vegan dumplings at all.

Delicious sweet buns - Edit
I would return just for the delicious sweet buns! I tried the taro and sesame flavor, and was not disappointed! Oh my goodness, I would seriously stop by just for those. The woodear mushrooms were also pretty good. However everything else I tried was pretty mediocre or bland. I had the vegan buns, the wonton soup, and the green beans in garlic sauce. The green beans were way too oily for my taste. The vegans buns were okay, maybe just a touch of salt more. The wontons had great texture, but the filling and broth was really bland. Since that was my main meal, it was definitely a let down. My family seemed to really enjoy all of their non vegan plates though.

Sesame Bao¡ - Edit
I love Din Tai Fung. Like every other location, they have an extensive vegan menu with clear labeling. Some other options can be veganized easily, and the nutrition labels online are a very easy way to figure it out if you want to be absolutely sure. The University Village location is always busy but always consistent. It’s in an excellent location for vegans, with other vegan options (including the all-vegan ice cream shop: Frankie & Jo’s) in the same shopping center. My favorite dishes are spicy noodles, stir-fried rice cakes, and, most importantly, sesame bao. I dream of the sesame bao; they are that good. I highly recommend Din Tai Fung, especially this location!
