A hidden gem - Edit

I live at 777 for a few years. One of the perks… Dhaba Wala. I may have ordered here weekly for over well year. I love Chana masala and have ordered it at many places. So I’ve had good ones and bad ones. Dhaba Wala has a very great Chana. The items that are plant based are clearly labeled.

The website states, "The trust we have in the people who handle our food is something that is easily taken for granted. We hold it as the highest form of a compliment when someone trusts us to safely handle the food they feed themselves and their loved ones." We obviously have a different idea of what it means to "safely handle." While we were waiting, I saw the cashier pick up two forks without washing their hands, set one on the public counter, hand the other to someone, and then pick up the one from the counter, and put it back with the "clean" forks. This is unsanitary.

We waited almost a half hour for our food. This wouldn't be a big deal in a restaurant with table service, but this is a "quick dining" setting. There was no water readily available (self-serve or offered), and the bathroom was "out of service."

Our food finally arrived in single-use plastic containers with plastic-wrapped plastic spoons, and plastic forks the cashier had touched with their unwashed hands. Worst of all, we were given styrofoam plates! I hadn't even considered this possibility because styrofoam is banned in restaurants where I live. We returned the plates, so hopefully they at least re-used them since we hadn't. I'm sure that's against food handling regulations, but so is touching utensils without washing your hands first...

The food itself was good, but I'm concerned about the sanitation in the kitchen considering what I saw up front. Also, I will not support restaurants that I know use styrofoam.

Pros: tasty, clearly-labeled vegan options, big portions

Cons: unsanitary activity, styrofoam and single-use plastic, long wait for food
