I asked what curries in the cabinet were vegan, and the man behind the counter told me that he wasnt sure, but pointed out three that contained bacon. The signage for the store says 100% vegetarian so I asked if it was real bacon and he said yes. Super confusing! I've never ever seen a curry with bacon in it, I didn't realise that was even a thing. I asked if the fried rice was vegan and he said he didn't know. We ended up leaving without ordering any food.
This place is definitely 100% vegetarian. It may have been a person who was dealing with you at the time May have issues understanding you. They don’t even use eggs in their shop and bacon is definitely not used in any Indian dishes even if it’s a restaurant who serves non veg
They had 2 vegan options on their "buffet hot-meals menu" that day. Super cheap but really good quality and portion. Had a chana masala and lentil dhal. No vegan desserts though. They have a few seatings (6 seats?) but mostly meant for takeout.
Everything is so cheap (you can get a samosa for 1.50 for example) and really good. I especially enjoy the "samosa chaat" dish. Onion pakoras were good too. 5$ each and they give you good portions.
Centrally located vegetarian restaurant, Indian cuisine but not too spicy. They have a very cheap daily menu, about $6 and varying every day, plus some fixed items on the menu. Mainly vegetarian, but several vegan options (just inform before ordering). Seating space and take-out. Friendly owner.
Cheery little chaat place, just outside downtown - Edit
A few blocks outside the main "downtown" area of Rotorua, but if you are staying in the nearby residential district as we did it may be very convenient. Inexpensive (NZ$5) chaat, and each night they have different mains like chick peas, lentils, etc. 100% vegetarian, but not vegan, so ask.

Great dhaba - Edit
They prepared a mixed selection of pakoras when we couldn't decide. Provided more chutney and pickle. Excellent roti!
Read morePros: Many fresh options, Authentic dhaba selections, Kind and friendly family business
Cons: Not a lot of seating, Wish they had more greens that day
