This place was so amazing! The food was so yummy. The staff were also very helpful and friendly! The soup dumplings were tasty but by far the sticky ‘fake’ chicken was the best I’ve ever had!

So good! - Edit
Oh, glorious dumplings and more. We ate way too much, but wanted to try various dishes! All in all only 140RMB, which is superb. We went at around 2:30pm and most staff had just finished their lunch and were now resting their heads on the tables, sleeping (typical Chinese style!), which added extra charm.

Wonderful vegan XLB - Edit
This place is a godsend and is totally worth the journey from Shanghai’s city center. As a vegan, I had wished there was good vegan xiao long bao (soup dumplings) and didn’t think it existed. Dancing dumplings lived up to my expectations!

DELICIOUS - Edit
The food here is delicious. Never had vegan/vegetarian dumplings that were this good. It's a lovely little restaurant too. I'm so sorry we were in a hurry, would have loved to try even more food and spend more time here. We will definitely come back (even if it's a little far away)!

Great Little Place - Edit
I was desperately trying to find somewhere to eat around the University Road/ 大学路 area, and wasn’t in the mood for round 2 at Tago Tacos. Fortunately my handy Happy Cow app didn’t let me down, leading me to Dancing Dumplings. The restaurant is small and a bit out of the way, but worth the trip. All vegan, lots of dumpling and bing options. I over-ordered, as usual, but it was all great. The restaurant is a little cramped but very light and airy, and I love the open kitchen.

Dance Me To The End Of Love - Edit
Open again after the lockdown and still the best dumplings in Shanghai.
Read moreIt's a little bit far from central Shanghai but so worth the trip. Newly renovated interior is lovely, we arrived just before it got too busy so managed to get a nice table for 4 right away. The menu is pretty big, we ordered 6 different types of dumplings, 2 fresh mixed juices, some fried chicken and a radish cake. The staff were so attentive bringing water, some edamame and pickled tomatoes while you wait. The sweet & sour fried chicken was nice, not like anything I've had before, I think it was tofu skin (that they usually use for fake duck) and was more barbecue than sweet & sour as we know it. The radish cake, where do I begin, this is amazing, fried deliciousness so good we had to order another. Out of the dumplings my favourites were the Shepherds Purse and the cabbage, corn & carrot. We ordered 3 more portions of dumplings. The staff gave us Moon cakes as it was Mid-Autumn festival. We shared 2 cheesecakes which were really good & ordered some cold noodle dishes to take away. The prices are so reasonable & the dumplings are the best in Shanghai.

Is this the best food in Shanghai? - Edit
Brilliant place to visit, with a huge selection of food. The dumplings and noodle soups are super tasty. They also offer a ‘cheesecake’ type dessert which was incredible. The staff were also very friendly. Order by scanning the QR code, it is all in Chinese however. The written menu has English translation, but I think you have to order using wechat. This would be number one in Shanghai if it wasn’t so far away. Easy to get to from exit 3 of the metro. It is closed from 2:30 -4:30 for lunch. Hopefully they’ll open more branches.

Must visit - Edit
Dancing Dumplings is a fantastic restaurant for vegans and vegetarians wanting to experience some non-meat versions of regular Shanghainese food. They serve numerous dumpling options along with noodle soups and stuffed pancakes. There is a vegetarian menu with watercolour illustrations, along with a regular table menu that has (poor) English translations but many photos. There is also an e-menu available through wechat that can be located here: https://dc.fanxiaojian.com/order-web/page/main?sid=6&hotelid=1504567&tn=5&dcode=zHPaZ. All three menus seemed to be slightly different. One of the staff members spoke very good English. Only a short walk from Sanmen metro. Apple maps directs you via a much longer route, but ignore that and take exit 3 from the station and walk towards Sanmen road. There is construction going on but there is still a pedestrian detour open, providing access to Sanmen road. The restaurant is across the road from a shopping centre, not on the 3rd floor inside the centre. Have attached an up to date picture of the exterior but the restaurant is very easy to find

Best dumplings - Edit
I've only ordered delivery. This really is the best place for vegetarian dumplings. They're not all equally good, but there are many varieties and they are high quality. The outside has a good thinness, and the insides aren't (for the most part) boring in the way that the veg dumpling options at non-veg places tend to be. The even have xiaolongbao soup dumplings, almost impossible to find vegetarian versions of. I give 5 stars on a dumpling scale. That said, they're only dumplings, don't expect something more amazing than a dumpling can be.

Wonderful - Edit
This was amazing. I had no idea what we got since I don’t speak Chinese, however a super nice vegan lady helped us and we ordered what she suggested. It was delicious, super cheap and so nice. The food court is a bit dark but we honestly didn’t mind. The food was great!

Small place - Edit
A small, cheap, Dien yo earth place just across the street from the mall complex. Excellent dumpling sauce. Vegetarian dumplings were on the rightmost part of the menu, no English anywhere.
