Good food! - Edit
I tried the vegetarian tacos. It was a good filling meal. The server assured me that their beans are vegan, even the refried ones! Make sure you ask for no cheese though. The guac was also very fresh and delicious

It’s okay - Edit
The vegan selection is limited. When you order any “veggie” options, be sure to specify “no cheese” or you will get cheese on top. We started with escabeche which was minimally pickled and not that interesting. The avocado margarita wasnt on the menu so i got a yummy mescalita. For dinner we ordered the veggie enchiladas with two sides. Not all sauce choices are vegan (not mole or crema). The rice and borracho bean sides are not vegan, and the vegetable side is the same as the enchilada filling. So we got refried black beans and chef salad for our sides. The salad was really good. Everything else was meh. None of the desserts are vegan so we walked across the street to Quack’s bakery for vegan treats. It seems that the Curra’s menu is smaller than before, which seems to be a thing around town since the pandemic. I will probably come here again because its a good place to eat with omnivore friends and it has a nice atmosphere. Our vegan server helped by pointing out the best options for us. We were at the Hyde Park location and enjoyed a nostalgic feeling to be back in the space where we used to eat many veg meals at Mothers Cafe and Garden.

The Tamales ❤️🌿 - Edit
Yes! Try the vegan Tamales. Everything tastes fresh and of high quality ingredients. Super friendly service as well! The vibe is a little funky and they have avocado margaritas by the way.

Generous portions, good food - Edit
Ordered the bean tamales since it came so highly recommended. When I received it, I was surprised but how generous the portions were. There were 4 tamales and they were huge. It also came with Mexican rice, and a red sauce on the side. The rice was soooo good, it was my favorite part of the meal. The tamales were good but not great. The masa was cooked well and moist, and the beans were mashed and spicy. For my personal preference I would have wanted another texture on the inside of the tamale, it was a little too spicy and felt like it was missing another texture. My Omni husband was with me and he liked his food. There were several other options on the menu but I didn’t try them. I would have also wanted to try their vegan chorizo. Overall good food if you’re in town.

Mixed Review - Edit
Fun atmosphere but disappointed with my menu choices. Sadly, their “famous” Avocado Margarita did not measure up, but probably because I have had the pleasure of tasting THE BEST Avocado Margarita at Avo in Nashville. On the other hand, my non veg date thought his meal was great.

Wonderful, colorful and fun restaurant! - Edit
Curra's Grill is one of the best Mexican restaurants that I have ever eaten in. It has interesting Central Mexican cuisine, a fun colorful atmosphere, great staff and fabulous food.
Read moreEverything we ate was delicious, interesting and nicely prepared! The menu is very vegan friendly with three out of four of their beans made without any animal additives. The staff was happy to make accommodations for my needs and I had a lot of options, it was truly hard to decide what to order!
Curra's Grill even had vegan chorizo! But, seriously, order the tamales ... I have never, ever in my thirty years of eating tamales had such delicious tamales. If I could eat them every week, I would. They were worth going all the way to Austin! In addition, their salsa was fabulous and they serve red corn tortillas with their dishes which were really unique and delicious! (I ate the tortillas plain on my way back to Dallas and still enjoyed every bite!)
The restaurant also features interesting, unique cocktails and would be a fun place to unwind in the evening with a group of friends, bowls of guacamole and chips, and good conversation.
If you're in Austin and like MX food, check this place out!
Pros: Fantastic food, Lovely, friendly staff, Fun atmosphere
Cons: A little noisy
