Tucson gem - Edit
Cup Cafe at Hotel Congress is quintessential Tucson. Staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Food is great! Started with the lettuce wraps - so delicious with a great mix of flavors and textures. The Hotel salad was great (order without the goat cheese croutons) and the vegan tamales are incredible.

Very limited choices for vegans - Edit
Hemp vegan tamales were very good but I wish there was more on the menu for us vegans. Breakfast too, only avo toast. Service was great.

That fried tofu sandwich - Edit
SO tasty! And they added multiple vegan items that are clearly labeled. The fried tofu sandwich had cabbage slaw, pickles, secret spicy sauce, & potato bun. I was super impressed!
Read moreAlso glad for the addition of items instead of elimination, which how the post-corona restaurant menu scene seems to be going..

They are getting rid of that sandwich. No point in going now. I ordered the lettuce wraps with blackened tofu instead and they were mediocre.
Read moreServer told me they are replacing it with a different sandwich, but I don’t plan to go back. Over $70 both my partner and I with no alcoholic drinks, too much for atmosphere only.

I almost cried the first time I went after the fried tofu sandwich was discontinued

Great breakfast spot - Edit
There’s only one entree on the breakfast menu that’s vegan, but it’s delicious and worth going back for! It’s a great spot if you’re going out with non-vegan friends

Good weekday vegan breakfast - Edit
There’s only one full vegan meal option on the breakfast menu right now, but it’s really good and it’s only $9.50! The tofu scramble was super flavorful and one of the tastiest I’ve ever had. Their vegan breakfast sausage is spicy and tastes close enough to a real meaty sausage that the feel of BREAKFAST is really prevalent in this entirely plant-based meal. It comes with home fries, fruit and toast as well. Great coffee and they have almond milk to go with it.

Beyond Buger and beyond... - Edit
The Cup Café now serves Beyond Burgers! It is vegetarian the way it is presented on the menu but a quick swap of the bread (sourdough for the brioche bun) and it is vegan. Comes with choice of side - French fries are hand cut from fresh potatoes EVERY. DAMN. DAY. or you can order it with the house soup - Tortilla Soup - which is vegan if you ask for no cheese. Another awesome vegan option is the Lettuce Wraps - chickpea fritters with pickled veggies and harrisa sauce topped with toasted cashews in butter lettuce wraps - spicy, sweet, crispy, delicious! No need to modify - they are vegan as prepared. Other great vegan options are the tofu scramble, sonoran sopes (with vegan sour cream), and the barrio bread (swap the butter and pesto for extra rosemary infused olive oil).

We love Cup Cafe - Edit
The food here is creative, delicious and healthy. The staff is super nice!
Read moreThe bartender in the little bar in the hotel makes Jammu! Jammu is non alcoholic and made from ginger, turmeric and honey, yum! It's not on the menu yet but ask about it. Every veggie dish we have had here has been outstanding! Bring non veg friends here.
I would definitely give this 5 stars as their Vegetarian food is better then most all veg place I've eaten. Unfortunately Happy Cow disallows a 5 star rating.
Pros: Creative food, Great ambiance , Friendly service
Cons: Could have more vegan options

Best breakfast in town! - Edit
In a town where any breakfast, but especially vegan, is near impossible to find before 9am, Cup Cafe is a real gem and open at 7am. Located in the historic Hotel Congress downtown, the atmosphere is as great as the food. There is a single vegan option for breakfast (Tofu Scramble, $9.5), but its amazing and the best I've had in Tucson. They make their own vegan sausage in house and the very knowledgeable staff knows which side dishes and bread are or can be vegan. They also have soy milk for your coffee.
Read moreThere are additional options for lunch, dinner, and even on the cheap bar menu, but I've only had the Queer Steer ($13 for dinner), which is also delicious. In the midst of all the new pretentious and meat-heavy, farm-to-table restaurants downtown, it's great to have delicious options at the coolest old bar/hotel/restaurant in Tucson.
Pros: delicious, atmosphere, outdoor seating is dog-friendly!
Cons: parking - its downtown, a little pricey
