Great food, very cheap

Besides the tasty and healthy food provided, this restaurant has a nice vibe and is good for meeting open-minded people. If you're a student, make sure to bring your card. Then it's even cheaper!

Cheap Curry and free refills

Cheap lunch spot with free refills. They have a different curry every day - check their website. My favourites are the kidney beans curry as well as the Malaysian curry but really they are all great. All curries are vegan, vegan dessert on request.

Pros: Vegan curry , Taste, Cheap

Cons: Ambience

Delicious

Really enjoyed my lunch here. Chickpea and potato curry with rice and pappadum. They also offered a vegan dessert (I think it was some sort of pudding with tapioca) and drink which were tasty. All for 8$!

Must go

Crossways is definitely a place I'll recommend to anyone who will look for a place to eat in Melbourne.

Don't expect a fancy place, it's more like a simple cantine, but it has is own charm.

First the meal: just one option "all you can eat". 5.95 for a concession, 7.95 for anyone else, let's admit it, it's cheap. But in here it doesn't mean bad quality.

Almost everything is vegan, except the dessert but they also have a vegan option (yes, all you can eat has a dessert!). There's not many choices as it's one meal a day, but it changes everyday!

The portion of food are big, after one serve I always think twice if I really want to be served again, cause it's also filling food. Rice, lentils, potatoes, veggies... It's a bit spicy if you are not use to it.

Staff is nice too which is always a plus!

It's definitely 8 dollars well spent!

Pros: Food is very good and filling , Big portions, nice staff, Cheap

Cons: Closed on sunday , No vegan option for the drink except water

Affordable Vegan Food in CBD

Crossways is strategically situated in the CBD, it's so affordable at $7.95! Main dishes are vegan, they offers different dishes daily and they are fixed. The daily menu is displayed properly at the street - nearby the stairs. (Note: Crossways is located upstairs). A great option to have vegan meal fixed while exploring the CBD!

Cheap and tasty

This is similar to most of the Hari Krishna restaurants I have been to around the world. The service is quick, the food tasty, cheap, and healthy. Although I would love to see them give up dairy one day. But can't complain for $8 for all you can eat!

So tasty and cheap!

We had a lovely meal consisting of curry with rice, a dessert and drink. Very affordable, all vegeterian and vegan options. Very kind staff and casual vibe. We can't wait to eat here again!

Healthy, tasty and cheap

Lunch at Crossways today consisted of a kidney bean curry with rice and papadums with apple crumble for the vegan dessert option. Both tasted great and was outstanding value at $7.95 for 'all you can eat' as well as unlimited drinks (vegan options were cordial and water).
There are some shared and some communal tables and it does feel more like a food hall than a restaurant.
I'm keen to come back at other times to work my way through the rotating menu.

Quick & easy

Located upstairs, open space with freely available tables and chairs.
Pay $7.95 for all you can eat, pending on the day. I had a courgette & potato curry with rice and poppadoms.

Nice enough place, not for profit and smiling faces.

Pros: Easy and straight forward, All you can eat , Inexpensive

Cons: Shame the desert wasn't vegan on that day., Not really a restaurant, more like an open communi

Very cheap vegan food in the city

I've been here for lunch twice and loved it both times. The food is a changing variation of simple vegan curries and rice that have so much flavour, and a poppadom. There is an option for desert and drinks but the desert usually has dairy in it - just ask and the friendly staff will let you know what you can have.

Pros: Very cheap, tasty curries, friendly staff who can help with what isn't vegan

Cons: Desert often isn't vegan

Delicious, inexpensive food

I used to go here nearly every day. It was something like $6 and you'd get a huge plate of curry, rice and papadams, a cordial and sometimes dessert. I think you get free refills too but I never needed to refill. There's a milk based drink that isn't vegan and sometimes the desserts aren't vegan so just let them know you're vegan when they serve you.

Pros: Cheap, Yummy, Filling

Cons: That annoying bell people ring when exiting

quick, cheap, and tasty vegan food

As other reviewers have mentioned, all main dishes are vegan but the advertised dessert sometimes isn't. However, when we mentioned we were vegan we were given a replacement vegan dessert, so it's worth asking/mentioning if you're vegan!

Very good value for money, the food was served immediately and was simple but tasty.

Pros: good value, simple, tasty food, vegan dessert available on request

Tasty and CHEAP

If you're on a shoestring or tight on time, this place is a godsend. You just walk up to the counter, pay, and they give you food. $7.95 all-you-can-eat. Students pay even less. Food was pretty good, better than I expected. Chili flakes available for those who like it spicy. Only downside is the lack of options. The menu (if you can even call it that) is fixed and there's nothing to choose from. I do wish they'd offer a vegan alternative for dessert.

Pros: good food, cheap

Cons: lack of options

Crossways- Cheap, Easy and Delicious

Crossways is a great optition for any vegans or vegetarians who are in Melbourne city and looking for a cheap filling meal. Each day is a new curry so depending on when you go the meal will be tasty and filling. The prices are great and the atmosphere is nice. Super easy to find and access, close to all other areas of the city including Flinders Street station, South Bank and the main shopping centres.

Have been here many times. You can get in and out quick. Set menu and consistently tasty. This includes a dessert such as semolina pudding embeded with fruit and served with custard. Yum.

I wouldn't go back

I like to give positive reviews for veggie places, since they are filling an important need. I can't give one to this place, though. I guess the flavors were just average, but the big problem was the lack of protein in the meal. It was just a curry made with vegetables. I know there was *some* protein in the rice, but they should have added some tofu or gluten to make the meal balanced. Vegetarians need protein, and this place just doesn't provide it. The price is low (AU$6.50 for non-students), but you get what you pay for here. I would only eat this way if I were very very poor. It's all you can eat, but I didn't finish the food on my plate because it wasn't that tasty. The atmosphere isn't pleasant either. I was shocked at how crowded the place was at lunch time. I hope the other veggie options in town are better.

Pros: Price, Location

Cons: Uninspired, Little protein, Unpleasant atmosphere

A great veggie bargain

At Crossways you get all you can eat from a set selection of dishes from a bain marie. It consists of a daily curry, rice halva and more. Its a very casual student friendly environment. Food is simple but good.

Pros: Cheap, Location, All you can eat

Cons: Limited Choice

Full belly, calm mind, and cheap!

The menu changes daily, so there is always something new to try. Also they always have sweets to try and "meal" deals. It's a good spot to watch people below on Swanston street. I found that there were not enough vegan options though.

Pros: cheap, away from the, crowd

Cons: could be spicier, Not enough Vegan
