Good seitan sandwich - Edit
I’ve been here twice. The first time was in 2021, and it was incredible.
Read moreWent back on New Year’s Day and was much less impressed, mostly because the homemade seitan sandwich was dry.
If they just got better vegan sauces (like vegan mayo), it would totally get 5 stars.
Also, the home fries are allegedly made with butter (but not marked). Plz just switch to olive oil. 🥹

Went here twice - Edit
When we arrived at Joshua Tree the Cafe was about to close but we got the hello burger to go. Densely packed with delicious seitan, this kept me going all evening. We went back because the staff had been so friendly and sat in. Got the vegan hash with soyrizo and tofu scramble and it was great another really substantial meal

A few really good vegan breakfast options - Edit
You will need to modify your order to make it vegan but servers are happy to do so. They have Just Egg. Their homemade polenta is delicious for the gluten free folks.

Yeah....no. - Edit
As others have mentioned this place is really suspicious, things labeled vegan that are not. Ended up stopping here because it was the only thing open, honestly wish we didn't. Got the portobello burger made vegan. Lettuce was wilted, loaded with raw onions, bread and mushroom were tough and hard to eat. Fries were also cold. The bathroom was filthy, and on your way there you can peek into the kitchen which is also filthy. If I had seen the bathroom/kitchen before ordering I would have left.

Risky - Edit
Despite one review warning that the burger wasn’t vegan there were so many others that were positive and an updated menu I tried optimistically. A local even suggested it! I ordered the “Hellburger (vegan)” and mentioned it to be made vegan…. The brioche bun is not vegan and was not readily subbed for the sourdough even though I mentioned it specifically to be safe. The Chipotle aioli, that I suspect has all the heat, was not on the burger so I imagine that is also not vegan friendly. The seitan? It’s the Tofurkey deli slices. I also have a service dog in tow and the staff (and actually much of Joshua Tree) was not the most willing to accommodate; not really the best experience overall and bummed I didn’t eat elsewhere on this trip. The other vegan options are egg dishes where they substitute Just Egg for scrambles, but my friend said they were bland.

Many vegan options - Edit
There quite a few options marked vegan and even more that looked like they could be made vegan if you ask. I got the hell sandwich with a side of black beans. They were both delicious. I would definitely come again.

Lots of options - Edit
Lots of ways to customize their food vegan. Love the option of either just egg or tofu scramble (it's cubed tofu vs scramble, but still nice to have the option).

Best Meal I had in JT - Edit
My girlfriend and I went here for dinner and breakfast during our stay in JT. We thought this was the best meal we had in town. Good amount of vegan options and really friendly service. If you're going for breakfast, get there early as it gets crowded.

Vegan friendly Joshua Tree spot - Edit
I recommend going here for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can substitute some things with just egg which is nice for breakfast options. There are several to choose from and every time I go it’s good.

Good vegan options - Edit
Good vegan options for breakfast and lunch. We had a salad (a little bit to oily) and an impossible burger. There was no problem to add portobellos and tofu to the salad. Friendly staff.

would def come back! - Edit
i got the impossible burger with no mayo and fries with 3 bean chili (vegan). i didn’t think to ask about the bun until AFTER i read some reviews… so i did eat the bun but someone else said they offer sourdough bread an as alt? my bf got the tacos with a side of black beans! so good, lots of food, price was good ($40 for both and a drink); would give 5 stars if i could!
Read moreokay, so i DID come back the next for breakfast and it was so worth it. again, good food and big portions. i got the UNusual breakfast with potatoes, sourdough, and veggie sausage (the potatoes are cooked in butter, so you have to ask for them to be made vegan!!!) with avocado and tomato on the side a vanilla oat latte. my bf got a vegetarian breakfast with real egg and dairy but he loved that too.

Nice JTree Vibes - Edit
Cute western cafe with Joshua tree vibes. It has a handful of vegan options or items that can be modified to be vegan. The hell burger bun is NOT vegan even though it’s labeled vegan on the menu. You must request to use the sourdough bread instead.

Bun Not Vegan - Edit
I called to ask about the brioche bun. It’s not vegan and they do not have a vegan bread option according to the girl on the phone. It’s a shame because I really wanted to try them out. Also, the hell burger is labeled vegan yet the bun contains egg and dairy which is very aggravating. It should not be labeled vegan.

They have just egg - Edit
They have just egg and serve breakfast till 1:30. They charge an extra $2 for the just egg and charge for almond/oat milk for your coffee. Even with the extra charges it’s my go to breakfast place in JT.

Filling tasty vegan food - Edit
Had the soyrizo potato quesadilla. Big plate, really high quality, tasty, filling. See attached pics. After spending time camping in close by Joshua Tree National Park - and eating what you can carry in your vehicle and keep fresh - to come out of the Park and eat tasty vegan like this is fantastic. Also the restaurant has a very comfy community feel, with a nice wooden interior and also some shaded outdoor seating - the latter a benefit during the COVID era if you want to maximize your time in open air environments.

Good food, bad luck with service - Edit
We went there on a very busy March weekend and that definitely showed. Waited about an hour for food, which, in all fairness, was really good. The Hell burger was tasty, inventive and really filling. I got it with a side salad that had cheese on top (which was easy enough to scoop up, should have asked about the ingredients). I would go back for the food but on a less busy day.

Good - Edit
The hot as hell saitan tacos were good. Taste better than they looked. They would be better in a crispy shell or as a burrito because the tortillas were ripping apart from the juices of the meat and slaw. I did add sat and pepper and hot sauce. All needed in my opinion. My husband got the soyrizo and potato quesadilla. Mine was better, his didn’t have much flavor and what it did have was a very distinctive taste that we couldn’t figure out 😂. The Arnold Palmer was undrinkable. It was sooo sour it burned our throats.
