A hidden Gem! Stop by for an amazing sandwich. - Edit
Everything. We had two very tasty yet totally different sandwiches. And they sent us away with two delicious muffins to enjoy. Beautiful plants growing everywhere and a chill little space to hang out. Definitely worth a visit!

Would rate it a 6 if we could! - Edit
A cozy little vegetarian and vegan sandwich shop in the Centro area, which we enjoyed multiple times during our stay in Mazatlán. Finding vegan options here is a bit more challenging than in other parts of Mexico, so it was awesome to come across Comiendo Sano! The owners are lovely and happy to explain things in English as needed. The menu varies depending on what's available on the day, but almost all of the sandwiches and tacos can be made vegan. We had the tortas especial, pastor, Mediterranean and boscaoilla (mushroom), which were all delicious. They have a variety of seitan, yummy baked goods, several vegan ice cream flavours and house made water kefir - we tried the lemon (limón) and the blackberry (zazamora) which were both great. Well worth a visit, more than once if you're lucky!

Excellent sandwiches and soups - Edit
We ate at Comiendo Sano three (plus one) times during our visit to Mazatlán. It is vegan & vegetarian, and meals were prepared to our specifications. Luigi (originally from Sicily) and his wife Isabel (from Mazatlan) own and are the chefs of the restaurant. She is a naturopath and they have a healing center on-site as well. Though we are both long time Vegans, they had no difficulty satisfying our needs. Each day they featured a different house made soup. Justina and I split a large bowl each visit prior to sandwiches, and we loved each of the soups they offered. We conferred with Luigi (who spoke English very well) about each meal. Justina (who has throat burns from radiation therapy for her tongue-based cancer three years ago) still has difficulty eating spicy foods and also some textures are hard to swallow. Luigi worked with her on those issues each visit. The sandwiches were excellent and super filling. We went for lunch and the food was so filling that we often had only a light dinner after eating here. They make many of the ingredients in house and we were delighted with the flavors and presentation they prepared. They baked muffins, cupcakes and tarts all of which were delicious. We are not typically dessert eaters but were delighted to indulge in desserts each time! The restaurant is in a home in the older “Centro” section of town. The dining area was populated with lots of plants, comfortable tables and booths and was accompanied by soothing music. The back section of the dining area is open to the outside, so your time here is also filled with bird songs of a diverse variety. Luigi made sandwiches for us to take on our flight home. He even supplied a whole tomato so we could slice it and put it on our sandwich the morning we left to keep our sandwiches from getting soggy. We highly recommend Commiendo Sano to anyone wanting delicious food served with love and attention. We hope to see Luigi & Isabel again!

A little gem - Edit
We were greeted by the very friendly Luigi (Isabel was busy during our visit) & he cooked us two delicious tortas. We also had an incredible agua fresca (piña) & a delicious homemade limón water kefir (difficult to find in México in my experience).
Read moreI told him some of my family immigrated from Italy to the United States & he even gave us a little Italian pronunciation lesson (thanks!).
We could tell they were more health conscious than most (offering kelp sea salt on the table & the previously mentioned water kefirs) & beyond that, the food & drinks tasted delicious!
Grazie ancora, Luigi — we hope to return again soon!

Best vegan food in Mazatlán - Edit
Comiendo Sano is amazing! During my week long trip in Mazatlán, I went here almost everyday! I tried the tacos, pasta, torta, breakfast (pancake/fruit with homemade vegan yogurt), iced coffee, juices, and banana bread. Everything was so delicious! The owners, Isabel and Luigi were so sweet and very accommodating with everything!
Read moreThere is seating inside with AC and outside where you can enjoy beautiful plants and ceiling fans. It can be a little hard to find if you do not know the area so look for the posters boards they have outside. The prices are amazing as well! They make everything from scratch and put so much love and labor in their food.
If you go anywhere during your trip, come here!
Pros: Extremely nice customer service , Very clean, Delicious food

Me tocó ir cuando solo tenían sus tortas y no el menú completo, que se sirve a partir de los jueves, pero la Torta Especial que probé estaba muy rica y bastante grande, tanto que ni me la pude acabar.

They do their full menu from Thursdays onwards, the rest of the week is only tortas, which is when I was able to stop by. I got the Especial, which was good and big enough that I couldn't finish it. The space is quiet and pleasant and they even have an area with AC if you prefer.
For now, they are cash only with handwritten receipts - since I needed to submit mine for work reimbursement, he went out of his way to provide me with the most official looking receipt possible, which I really appreciated.

Hidden But Delicious - Edit
We had a flight of four different-flavored tacos and some hibiscus water. All was fresh; all was delicious.
Read moreThis place is a bit hidden and off the beaten path, but the atmosphere, prices, and flavors are all well worth the trek.
The menu, apparently, changes often. Everything is at least vegetarian, and much either is vegan or can be made vegan.
The owners (Luigui and Isabella) are really lovely people.
UPDATE MAY/JUNE 2022: We’ve since returned here and have become enchanted by their tortas! Oh my! They have several different types and can make most/all of them vegan. The last ones we ate had delicious seitan. Highly recommend!
The restaurant can look closed from the outside, and the door/gate might need to be opened from the inside. Just saying—if you think it’s closed, it might not be. Perseverance is a virtue and is well rewarded.😄

This is the kind of place where you can tell every meal is made with loving care. It's definitely a slow food environment. The super comfy indoor/outdoor shaded garden feel is perfect to spend a leisure meal during the daytime heat. The torta had seitan and an incredible vegan cheese made from potatoes. Incredible!!! The veggie tacos are light and tasty when you don't want to feel bloated from eating too much. They had a vegan cupcake with chocolate that I took with me for desert later. And the agua del dia was just full of taste and nutrition. Great place, great value, great experience. And the owners come talk to you and they are really nice.

Amazing discovery in Mazatlán! - Edit
To break my 48-hour dry-fast I was looking for a healthy food restaurant in Mazatlán. I did a search on Happy Cow. I am glad I did it. I've found Comiendo Sano on the site.
Read moreOMG! This place is amazing. The food is healthy, tasty, made with lots of love. I spent most of the afternoon there. Not only I ate the best food I could find in Mazatlán, but I've met great people as well. The owners Luigi and Isabel are really kind and welcoming. They took the time to converse with me. I was able to have great conversations with the other customers as well. There are no social boundaries between tables at this restaurant. Everybody I've met was very open and willing to chat.
I had the best food and the best human interaction there. It felt more like going to dine at my friends' place more than going to eat out at a restaurant. It's going to be difficult for me to try out other restaurants in Mazatlán. I highly recommend Comiendo Sano Mi Tienda De La Salud, Well deserved 5 stars!

What a great find in centro historico! - Edit
I stumbled upon this place and couldn't believe what a wonderful vegetarian / vegan restaurant it was. The owners were super-friendly but it was the food that was the main attraction. I had the vegan torta, grilled perfectly and tasting delicious, also a juice made from carrot, orange, lemon, and something else I can't remember and it was very good too. The sign is being replaced so may be hard to find but they're definitely open (except Mondays). The courtyard in the restaurant is very nice too and I will be defintely be back to try their coffee sometime.

I also picked up some of their house made seasoning which I look forward to using. All around very nice atmosphere and great food. Fast WiFi too. If I lived in Mazatlan I’d be here all the time.

My boyfriend and I were really excited to check this place out and it did not disappoint. I had the tacos and my bf had the burrito which was the special. We got horchata and had the carrot cake for dessert (which was delicious and fresh from the oven). We had a lovely and relaxing meal. Luigi and Isabelle were so kind and friendly and took the time to go through the entire menu with us as we are unfamiliar with a lot of Mexican cuisine. We are hoping to find the time to go back at least once more before we head home. :)

Everything was perfect. The food, the people, the atmosphere. Exactly what I am looking for. Tacos were so good with several vegan options! The vibe was beautiful and we went on a cool, breezy day and just drank coffee and soaked up the beautiful weather. Everyone was extremely helpful to make sure we got all the options we wanted as vegan dishes (as they also serve vegetarian dishes). They also repeated everything they said in Spanish once in English in case I missed anything which was extremely helpful and kind.

Love the vibe, food, and owners.

Luigi and Isabella were extremely friendly and we could not have asked for better service and accommodation.
Once we told them we were vegan they explained that really all they have to do is replace the cheese with a bit of avocado and each dish still greatly works (and they DEFINITELY did)
Can't thank them enough.
Will be going again... and again... and again....
