Serves meat, vegan options available. Coffee shop, restaurant, and bar. The booth and counter seating is reminiscent of an old-school diner. Extensive vegan offerings clearly marked on the menu, including meatloaf, reuben sandwich, gyro, compact 'turkey' dinner, mac and cheese, breakfast and baked goods. Much of the menu, which consists mainly of comfort food items, can be made vegan upon request. The atmosphere is hip and laid back. Their specialty is making food from scratch. They treat their staff poorly

The food is salty—bar food. Nothing special. However, the real concern for vegans is how a staff is treated. The entire owners group of restaurants is being criticized for the way in which they fired their employees.

Vegan Comfort Food

Comet Cafe has a small but delicious selection of vegan entrees including a Reuben sandwich and battered ribs. Meals come with a side which is a plus!

Great comfort food but busy

This place is always so busy! They have decent vegan comfort food in a cool diner atmosphere. It's easy to pull the vegan options out of their menu (just look for the ✌️ peace signs). You'll leave feeling full. There's usually a vegan dessert option (check their chalkboard for what's available that day).

Cons: Busy on the weekends

Solid

Good breakfast and lunch/dinner options. The menu is mostly elevated bar food, and there are some creative cocktails. Staff is friendly.

Delicious food

Lots of vegan options, clearly marked on the menu. Frankie's Scramble was delicious. Great atmosphere. Would be even better if they listed the vegan food separately on the menu - you currently have to read through the meat option to get to the vegan version.

Pros: Lots of vegan options

Cons: Vegan options not listed separately

Sooooo good!

My husband and I are newbie vegans and are traveling and came accross this gem in Milwaukee. The food was AMAZING (vegan Salisbury steak) ultimate comfort food. He had a vegan gyro which was also delish. They had plenty of options. Vegan riblets on the appetizer menu but I didn’t think I would be able to eat my meal if we got those. There was a long wait when we had driven by at 2, but went at dinner and maybe only waited 15 mins. The drink menu had a lot of specialty cocktails.

great options

This is the only Omni restaurant near me where you wouldn't be able to spot the vegan food at the table. It's delicious (not healthy) and they have quite a few vegan options. Today I got a tofu scramble (Frankie's scramble I think) and it was really good. It is kind of pricey, and I think some vegan options cost more then their Omni versions... but it tastes good so I won't complain.

Pros: indulgent options , delicious

Cons: pricey , processed

decent but limited options

I have had 2 meals at Comet, both have been satisfactory. Finding the few vegan options is easy, they are clearly marked. They taste alright. I will probably go again, because it's one of the only options in town. Very meat and cheese centric though. Try the vegan chilaquiles at brunch or the Big Rig sandwich for lunch or dinner.

Pros: clearly labeled options

Cons: bacon centric

Good times at comet

I got the Big Rig at Comet and while it was tasty I would have preferred a little more of the veggie ribs in my sandwich. The service was great though and I also liked the music they played while I ate.

good breakfast!

My band was playing a show in Milwaukee and we went here for breakfast. I had the tofu scramble with some kind of mock meat loaf. It was really good and even my non veg friends were eating off my plate. My only complaint was the "loaf" was a little too salty. There was also a cool little rice card store around the corner.

Pros: cool setting, friendly service

How can a place so obsessed with bacon be veggie?

So this is Milwaukee, and while there are not a whole lot of options for vegans/vegetarians,I feel people are overenthusiastic about the "quality" of their limited options. Comet Cafe and others like Palomino and now Honey Pie are all meat centric hip restaurants that have a minimal veg offering amidst free bacon Sundays. Annoying for sure, but if they had good food I would still eat here. However, I have been continually disappointed with every thing I have encountered here. Their brunch nor dinner make no claims of keeping grills/fryers separate (which is most of the menu) and their tofu scramble tastes to me like mashed tofu covered in Turmeric to make it yellow. Their open "meatloaf" sandwich produced by field roast, is in my opinion the best bet at a vegetarian meal of any flavor. If you are passing through and have never seen hipsters before-maybe stop in for a cup of coffee or a drink, after finding your meal elsewhere.

Pros: has "veg" options, very hip

Cons: bad food!, crowded, meat centric

Vegan Meatloaf

The open face vegan meatloaf sandwich is yummy! There are So many vegan options (many items on the menu have the jumping bunny which signifies it can be made vegan) and they even sport a daily VEGAN dessert or two. Great atmosphere and excellent location. Good selection of drinks and beers to go with the food too. These folks know how to do right with vegans between the Comet, the Palomino and the Fuel Cafe. We are happy to have them.

Pros: Plentiful Portions, Excellent Food, Great value

Cons: Busy all the time!

Great Vegan Options!!!

OMG! I was extremely happy to go into a restaurant during breakfast with more options than hash browns and fruit! Here I had scrambled tofu with "meat" crumbles, awesome hash browns, toast, and much more! I will definitely eat at this restaurant when I visit Milwaukee again!

Pros: Excellent Scrambled Tofu!, Nice Staff!
