Very good - Edit
Super excited to try pressed sushi. We ordered 2 different options from the Omakase menu which gave us a total of 8 different sushi flavors.
Read moreThe presentation was lovely, the black rice was tasty, and most of them were good. The best options were short ribs, smoked salmon, and eggplant. A few others were bland like bell pepper, pumpkin, and salmon.
However, I agree with another reviewer who said the fried chicken appetizer was lukewarm and wasn’t fresh.

Kinda mediocre. - Edit
I really love vegan sushi, and I hate leaving anything but stellar reviews for vegan establishments. But…I really didn’t enjoy our meal at Cofu last night.
Read moreThe vegan fried chicken was served lukewarm and seemed like it was possibly just heated from a frozen product that was maybe flash fried?
The pressed sushi assortment just didn’t taste good. :-(
I wish I could leave a better review, but I feel like I should be honest.
Pros: Easy parking in a small lot, Friendly staff, Outdoor seating
Cons: Food was very meh.

Delicious and great service! - Edit
When we first walked in, Howl's Moving Castle was playing in the background which was an added bonus - who doesn't love that movie?
Read moreCOFU had an excellent variety of vegan sushi that was different than the typical sushi available to vegetarians. They also had their own original sauces which made their sushi unique as well. Pricing was good, at least I think it was - $52 for 32 pieces of sushi to share and 4 different sauces! They were also able to accommodate my Tao/Buddhist dietary restrictions which was awesome! For those of you who share the same no onion/garlic diet, these are the items you can have:
Sushi:
- fresh veggies mix, pumpkin, red chard, portobello, radish, eggplant, bell pepper, vegan (salmon, tuna, smoked salmon, tuna mayo), and mango avocado
Sauces:
- vivid beets, maple mustard, orange mustard, spicy mayo, balsamic soy
Pros: Delicious, Unique options, Original sauces

Unique Sushi - Edit
Great spot near Granville Island. The restaurant is fully vegan and features a sober bar. The menu options are quite unique; the short rib and the Mexican sushi were particularly good. The service was also excellent.

Absolutely divine! - Edit
We have eaten at a few other vegan sushi restaurants before (in San Diego), but this one, hands down, was the best. And we just stumbled upon it after a tour of Granville Island! The flavors of the pressed sushi were so complex and absolutely delicious. The presentation was beautiful too.

Great little vegan sushi spot - Edit
Beautiful presentation and unique omakase experience! The owner was very kind to us. A lot of thought and heart went into these dishes. Love the variety of dipping sauces for the sushi.
Read moreThe fried "chicken" is really tasty! It's a small restaurant and I heard they can get quite busy, however I've always had fast service and a peaceful experience when dining here!

Good, not great - Edit
While I did enjoy it, the portions were very small and 2/4 of the kinds I tried were kinda bland. The Mexican and the King Oyster Mushroom ones were absolutely fantastic though!

Decent but could be better - Edit
Had an okay meal at this place. It's perfect for a snack between meals. The rice seemed not-so-fresh…maybe been in the fridge too long.

Delicious! But poorly run - Edit
Protip: order ahead for dine-in, or end up waiting 2 hours.
Read moreUpside: the sushi was really really good!
Downside: it seems like they need help running the restaurant. It took 70 minutes to get our food. There were only two employees and they were working so hard, but they could have made things more efficient. For example:
- premix common mocktail ingredients
- prepare sushi ingredients in an easy-to-reach spot rather than retrieving and stashing Tupperware containers
I don’t mind slow service but this was pretty excruciating because nobody was getting their food. I think the kitchen sent out four plates in 60 minutes.
Finally, they didn’t even have one of the items we ordered! So after 90 minutes of waiting, we only got one of two items. We went next door to Afghan Horseman to finish our dinner.
I want this place to succeed but please get some advice running the place!

Incredible unique sushi - Edit
Sushi is so wonderful, unique in flavors, and health focused while being super satisfying.

We got two of the sushi trays here. They were just okay, I’ve had much better vegan sushi. I think some people might like it but it’s just not my taste.

Excellent place with one major downside - Edit
As a vegan non-drinker, I love the concept of this place. I've been twice and the food is excellent and the staff are friendly. The incredible flavour combinations and presentation make for some of the best vegan sushi I've ever had. The one downside that I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned is that there are only 2 people running the place which means that you may have to wait a while for your food to arrive. Both times it's been around an hour between ordering and our mains arriving at the table. Our server apologized each time, but really if this happens on a regular basis something needs to change maybe?

All vegan pressed sushi! - Edit
We visited on a Saturday night and there was no one there which made me sad because there are so many amazing reviews of this restaurant.
Read moreWe ordered "A" and "D". Personally, I would skip the pre-arranged sushi platters next time and instead, choose the exact sushi we wanted.
I really liked the smoked salmon, tuna mayo, short rib, & portobello mushroom. The others we didn't enjoy as much... I particularly didn't love the fresh mix veggie or radish + raspberry.
We also ordered the "fried chicken" and gomae, both of which were amazing!! The fried chicken seemed like it was made with mushrooms. It was chewy, but had a juiciness that I haven't experienced in faux meats before.
All of their drinks are alcohol free which was nice as I'm not big on alcohol, but enjoy ordering drinks. They give you a pretty good discount if you order drinks with your platter.
The staff were extremely nice! I 100% will be back:)
Pros: Not busy, Alcohol free, Vegan tuna, short rib, salmon

Vegan sushi! - Edit
Such fun! We live in a place where there is very limited access to vegan sushi, so Cofu was on our list of things to do in Vancouver. The restaurant is located in a strip right before the entrance to Granville Island making it really easy to find. We were not sure where to start, so we ordered 3 items from their Omakase Menu, which were platters that each contained 4 different flavours of sushi. The sushi was made with black rice and a variety of veggie toppings, mock salmon, and mock meat. The sushi was completely different to any webhave had before. No seaweed in sight, and instead of the ubiquitous soy sauce and wasabi, the platters had different Schmears. We all agreed the cilantro schmear was an unusual option but was our favourite. We ordered so much sushi we didn’t have room for dessert. Maybe next time! We really enjoyed the meal and will definitely eat there again the next time we are in Vancouver.

The best sushi I have ever had - Edit
As a vegan sushi lover I have always enjoyed visiting Vancouver and trying new sushi spots. However, you usually get stuck with an avo/yam roll.
Read moreCofu is the antidote Vancouver needed for boring vegan sushi. The sushi here is incredibly creative, delicious, and clearly made with a lot of love. I would recommend getting one of the larger plates and trying one of the alcohol free cocktails. This place is unmissable!

Bland Vegan Sushi - Edit
I really wanted to like this place as it is the only all vegan sushi restaurant in Vancouver but I was extremely disappointed. The sushi is extremely bland, texture is mushy and the side sauces are watery and have strange flavour combinations. It looks pretty on the plate but that’s about it. I won’t be going back.

Best meal in Vancouver do far - Edit
I've eaten at nearly a dozen vegan restaurants in the Vancouver area this year and this was the best meal yet. I had their Cofu sushi platter. The vegan roe and paste on the side of the plate also greatly enhanced the flavour of the pressed sushi.

Seriously lacking flavour - Edit
Little place quite in the center of town next to tourist-island. Fully vegan, gluten-free items are marked on the menu. They can seat less than 20 people (4 tables and a counter at the window), but it was not too crowded when I went there on a Wednesday evening.
Read moreThe miso soup was good, the sushi nice to look at, but I have to agree with a previous reviewer that it is lacking a lot flavour. Even the two sauces (one with cilantro, the other a tiny bit spicy) lacked in flavour, so I cannot really recommend this restaurant that much unfortunately - not bad but nothing to return to. Possibly the bowls are more interesting.
