Fast and tasty - Edit
Great option in Shinjuku for a speedy meal. There is only one vegan curry (the vegetable curry) but it’s delicious!

This place has delicious vegan curry! Even though the curry is simple, it is so yum and a great cheap meal to rely on as a vegan in Japan!

Great Japanese Vegetable Curry - Edit
Though there aren’t too many vegan options, there is a section with vegetable curries. Just make sure you order the non-meat curry base. The ordering screen is easy to use and it’s available in many languages. The vegetable curry I had was amazing and the pricing was reasonable. The service was also efficient. I would highly recommend if you are interested in trying Japanese curry.

The menu comes in different languages which makes it easy to order. There are a few options for vegan and vegetarian curries. They are pretty cheap and have good portions.

Delicious - Edit
They have a tablet on each seating corner that you can use to place your order. Vegan options can be found under gluten free dishes or under vegetable curries. Please watch out that when choosing from the veggie curry menu, you need to choose the vegetable sauce when customizing your order. Otherwise it will not be vegan!

Coco Ichibanya - Edit
The first time I had Coco Ichibanya was when my client suggested we order it in for a working lunch from this location...best decision! The CocoICHI Vegetarian Curry with Vegetables was spectacular, cheap, AND vegan!!! Definitely a great place to grab a quick lunch. Since it's a chain, if you're in a bind picking between a local restaurant and this one, I'd say pick the local one. There are many Coco Ichibanya locations across Japan and even in some other countries.

Surprisingly Tasty! - Edit
Ended up here almost as a last resort as no other vegan friendly places were open in the area. Pleasantly surprised! Really tasty curry! Only a few options but nice and quick service. The spiced garlic side was an absolute win. About £20 for x2 mains, x2 beers plus the garlic.

Hearty curry - Edit
The shop is located near the train stations. They have a separate vegan menu available for selection, do ask for it. You can choose the rice portion and spicy level of the curry. Overall, is a great curry with vegetables top on it.

Great, simple place - Edit
As soon as I came in and sat down a member of staff presented me with the menu and as soon as I used my very bad Japanese to say "no meat no fish" I was given a vegetarian/vegan menu with a decent choice of dishes and all labelled in several languages including English. It's a good place for us spice lovers too as you can choose to have your curry as hot, (or as mild), as you like.

They have separate menu and will mix - e.g. add something to one menu if you ask. Good taste and price.

Staff may be confused, find the menu yourself - Edit
Had a tense conversation (in Japanese) with the waiter, who just wanted to push me the standard vegetable curry and knew of no vegetarian alternatives. I just found the fabled menu in the menu pile myself. They use the word "vegetarian" but it's really vegan, and there were 7 menu items as of this writing.

Good but no mild vegan curry - Edit
It is great that such a big chain restaurant provides vegan curry options. However, the vegan curry is a "regular" spicy one, and it is not possible to have it mild or hot. So if you cannot eat spicy food, you basically cannot eat anything at this place.

Good for a quick bite - Edit
This small, counter-service curry spot was a nice place to grab lunch in-between shopping trips. The vegetarian (really vegan) menu had a couple options for curries and toppings. I ordered the standard vegetable curry with okra. I loved the flavor of the curry itself but found the preparation of the okra to be really slimy and off-putting. Luckily, it came on the side so I just didn't add it to my dish.
Read moreMy husband got the red curry with eggplant and loved it. Unfortunately, we later learned through other reviews it may have been cooked in animal oil, which is disappointing to say the least.
All dishes come with a generous helping of rice. You can customize the heat and amount of rice you get as well. We both got the standard level of heat and found it not to be that spicy.
Pros: Separate veg menu, Big portions
Cons: Limited seating, Some of the vegetables are cooked in animal oil

Delicious Japanese Vegan Curry - Edit
This place serves cheap, filling, delicious Japanese curries. They have a separate vegan menu. Make sure you ask for that and order off that menu. My favourite is the mushroom curry.
