City vegan store - Edit
small but lots of hard to find organic and vegan special items. Loads of vegan products that other stores don't carry, i think the owner is vegan and strives for that in the products. lots of vegan beauty products. Staff are hit and miss though, there is a very high turnover of staff who are sometimes knowledgeable and helpful but sometimes have no idea, or have too much idea and very pushy. certainly a good variety of imported quality items. and they have a good range of vegan frozen food and steady supply of fresh seasonal produce. open 7 days.

Pros: open 7 days, lots of imported hard to find items in range, sunday
Cons: small, close an hour too early for city workers, a bit chaotic - not a relaxed experience

I get an average salary, my way to get around the store is: - Edit
Start at the dairy & consumables, fridge, with the purest ready to eat products, the owner can fill ~ you in on all about them and each product will have a good ~ reason for being there and be researched/tried & true. Then move to the vegetable fridge & shelves, the owner has ~ a knowledge of sources & seasons as good as ~ can be found and the will to get the stuff & keep it constant, fresh with the most variety. The fruit, shelves and refrigeration, same again on, source variety, supply, man every kind of thing in season here & on the mainland even coconut milk drinks out of coconuts, bananas virtually all year round, watermelon, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, another type its name just can't recall, oranges, pears, other seasonal best quality stuff, [puts a spring in your step]! There's homemade chocolate with fillings & a range of healthiest unique chocolate with nuts etc.. A confectionary line, again healthy unique stuff, [kids should eat rather than what’s at the supermarket]. More, food type, shelf products, are a variety of boutique nuts sourced from Byron Bay, fine honeys, vege. canned meals among a number of other food products quite constantly surprisingly cheap. Then there's the Medicinals man owner knows her stuff & enthuses it/best variety. She works too hard but it shows in the product. [Bulk is also available/well sourced]. You are what you eat ~ you feel what you eat the best purest quality makes us feel the same. Thank you City Organics maybe we should worship you like First Nation peoples worshipped their food sources did great -by- them! "HalleluJackie" she even picks stuff just for you.😊

Great range, but a bit pricey - Edit
City Organics is one of those old school kinds of shops that are packed floor to ceiling with all sorts of weird and wonderful things. I visit semi-regularly, and while I often find things that I'm excited to try, they're a bit too expensive to make part of my day-to-day shopping.

There when I needed it - Edit
I came across this shop just when I needed it and it was a cute set up, although I didn’t check it out in detail. I bought some UV Natural sunscreen for about $37, which was a pretty typical price. The owner or manager was super friendly and helpful.

Incredible range of everything vegan - Edit
This is the place to go for those hard to find ingredients like rice cream and vegan sour creams. They also stock A Bit Hippy products which are excellent.

great staff - Edit
Really great staff that cares about veganism. Great selection of vegan and non vegan goods from all over the world as well as local tasmanian cashew cheeses that rival anything I've ever had. Considering switching to all vegan, but might be hard given the small community.

Nothing beats City Org! - Edit
The number 1 grocery store for all things vegan in Tasmania! A MASSIVE range of products from all over the world. It legit has everything you need and if on the off chance it doesn't, never fear! The gorgeous owner Jackie will order it for you! No need to shop online from the US. You will always get the best customer service when you visit and you know it's the best cos the store is almost always packed with people shopping! You will not find another store even remotely like this in Tasmania! Staff is always super helpful with all the info you could need/want. All you gotta do is ask and Jackie will sort you out :D So grateful to have this awesome business here in Hobart, otherwise us tassie vegans would sorely miss out. Prices of products are completely reasonable. You would pay a lot more shopping online from mainland or overseas. I prefer to shop local to keep awesome businesses like this here! Thanks City Organics! You'll always have a loyal customer with me :)

City Organics - Edit
Friendly staff who are willing to talk to you. Usually can be give you advice. Sometimes you can be waiting in line for this reason though. But when the service is good its exceptional and when its bad it is dreadful.
Read moreIf you can not find something they will tell you where it is.
Great range, but they do have a habit of discontinuing items. Items I was thinking of buying or used to buy in the past. This may have to with suppliers, yet it is annoying.
Sometimes you can feel like your being treated like a thief because they come out asking you for what you are buying.
They are more expensive than Eumarrah for certain items for example certain fruit and vegetables. I try to balance it out and buy items from both small businesses, buy what one does not have.
The advice they give whether it is a deliberate lie or not is also annoying sometimes. The cancer rate is at half the population for instance. Half the body is made of bacteria. Whether this misinterpretation or misrepresentation of data or they have read that somewhere else it is annoying. It maybe unintentional but it potentially comes across as dishonesty. You know that they want you to buy something, but it is annoying.
Otherwise it has an interesting array of products. A variety of fruit and vegetables. Family friendly and community orientated business. The business owner and boss is warm.
Like many businesses these days it does not supply all that you want.
I personally buy Green Tea from there for its antioxidants. Sage in a shaker jar, amongst other things. I would have difficulty finding these items if it shut down anywhere else.
Pros: Interesting variety of goods for sale, Some of items are not readily available elsewhere, Friendly, helpful and warm service
Cons: Sometimes slow and rude service, Certain items are more expensive than anywhere els, Discontinued stock items such as socks

I thought I'd better respond to your post to reassure you that what the Happy Cow staff have said with regards to the current cancer rate is correct. It is now officially 1 in 2 people. Scary! As for the comment on bacteria: for every human cell in your body you have 6 bacteria cells!! They are smaller than human cells, but this means that we are more bacteria than human! Again, scary thought!!

Actually, not a scary thought at all! We live with our commensal bacteria in a symbiotic relationship. Without all the bacteria in your gut you would very soon sicken and die.

Convenient for city workers and visitors, but I sometimes wish they had more space. As the staff if you can't find what you're looking for as they do pack quite a range into their shoebox.

vegan rise - Edit
I only discovered this place recently, but it was a very good find. They have some different types of vegan cheese!! Staff are friendly, and there is so much goodness in that little space, you might not know where to start, but take your time and take it all in. Some items are a little expensive, but most of us living here really can afford it.

get your groceries here! - Edit
It was fantastic to be able to shop here without worrying about the prospect of something having meat, gelatine, rennet, etc. for an all vego shop it has a good range of products. I noticed there is also a loyalty program for the loyal locals. Plenty I organic, fair trade and cruelty free products here! It also has a nice feel too it, not pretentious in any way. Very friendly staff.

I just noticed today that they're selling some convenience food that has meat in it, so they're not all veg. It could have been fake meat though, I didn't check.
