The best ever vegan croissants! - Edit
We had one of these every day and they were so good. It’s a very rare find in Central America

No vegan food options - Edit
Alternative milks available (including oat which is rare in San Marcos) but no vegan options for food at all.

Not crumby but not amazing - Edit
Vegan croissant/roll was quite good but expensive (25 quetzales) and came plain when it could have done with some jam.

Not the vegan spot - Edit
I stopped in twice, both times there weren't vegan pastries, not sure if they have them on occasion. The fresh bread is quite good quality. 25Q for a loaf if I remember correctly. I had a flat white, they had soy milk I believe which isn't my favorite plant milk for coffee, but it was alright!

Only drinks and fresh bread available for vegans - Edit
Circles has changed and had a makeover. You can now only pick a selection of sandwiches and cakes. However these are not vegan. You can get coffees and smoothies with plant milk. I asked for a chai with oat milk and was disappointed. I could tell it was a sweet powdered chai. I expected proper chai because everywhere else here does a really good chai with spices

Not sure - Edit
Waited 30 mins to be served and no one spoke to us so we left. Menu was also very plain and expensive for what is offered.

Mostly vegetarian - Edit
A very vegetarian-friendly spot; much fewer options for vegans. The vegan stack breakfast is tasty but not nearly as delicious or creative as some of the other vegan breakfasts you can get in the area. The bakery, however, is exquisite and sells incredible bread!

Best banana bread in the whole world/stratosphere! - Edit
This cheeky little cafe is slinging the most flavoursome, moist and delicious banana bread on planet earth! Unless aliens bake it's the best in the galaxy too. Can't recommend it enough and for 10q a chunk it fits into anyone's budget.

Nice garden setting - Edit
This is a cafe/bakery/hostel and most menu options can easily be veganized.
Read moreI stayed here as a hostel guest which includes free breakfast until 4pm. While there's only one actual vegan item on the breakfast menu the staff are happy to substitute items to make the other menu options vegan.
They also offer almond milk for coffee and raw cheesecake.
The garden setting is lovely and the environment is very relaxed. Expect to wait over 30 minutes for your meal (and that's during non busy times).
Pros: easy to substitute for vegan versions , garden setting
Cons: slow service

Great place to eat - Edit
I had a great times in the hostel and the café. The food was delicious and the portiones were HUGE! Also the coffee was good but actually just tried the filter coffee but they have a big selecion. The cold brewed coffee sounds interesting. Some of the non-vegan plates can be veganized and instead you get an extra position of avocado for example.
Read moreOnly thing I would wish for would be a bigger variety of vegan plates.
For sure I would come back!
Pros: relaxed atmosphere, big portions, "breakfast" until 4pm
Cons: not that many vegan options especially for breakfa, the kitchen stuff is a little slow

Excellent Vegan Breakfast! - Edit
Enjoyed breakfast here twice in the lovely garden and split the "Vegan Stack" between two people. It's a large serving of hash browns topped with onions, tomatoes and avocados for about $5.50 and comes with a cup of coffee. They also have Chai and almond milk. The lunch menu sounds delicious and can be found on their website. I was told they plan to open for dinner soon. It's about a 5 minute walk up the main path from the dock.

Cons: Stray dogs but that's the norm in SM, 30 minute wait for food - the norm in SM

Best new spot in San Marcos - Edit
I was very happy to see that this great new place had just opened. Although they are still working on adding new items to the menu, they already have great breakfasts (including a vegan one with hash browns and avocados), sandwiches, and snacks. Veggie burgers, satays, and falafel are on the way soon. They have great coffee and have soy milk, which can also be requested for smoothies.
Read moreApart from that, the two owners are welcoming and interesting, and they absolutely always have great music playing... easily the best tunes in town next to M-fish, and no soft jazz like some other nearby offenders. Beautiful garden space with a laid-back, lazy atmosphere. Go and support this new endeavor, it makes being in SM just a little more comfortable!
Pros: fun atmosphere, great owners + super music, central, tasty, inexpensive
Cons: options still somewhat limited
