Ci Wen, Singapore

Using the same utensil to serve egg and non-egg items is a deal breaker for me.

Cons: Same utensil serves egg and non-egg items

Fried Petai with Rice

24/3/22
Visited again 2 weeks later
Another chef fried a nice Sambal Petai too!!!
Brighter in colour, delish!!!

11/3/22
The fried Petai with rice was pretty decent.
Dull colour thou, spicy and tasty enough to go well with the plain rice.

Run by an old couple, please give some patience when patronising. Long queue during lunch peak.

Rude Service

portion size is so little and on top of that, the service is very rude. it’s very hard for me to support stores with very bad services. food taste wise is just meh. got better shops out there haha

Normal fare

This was my first visit to this stall and I ordered the vegetarian chicken rice. Nothing much to shout about but the portion was substantial.

Chicken rice

Takeaway dinner from Ci Wen Vegetarian again! Really love the Wok Hei filled hor fun, one of my must-order. As for the chicken rice, needless to say, both the chicken and rice are fragrant!

Pros: Value for money, Friendly staff

Economical, great variety

Reached stall before 12pm, no Zhi Chay. So ordered chicken rice, add vegetables only $3.50.

We are their Follower

They moved a few times in recent years. Almost all the food we likes. A bit disappointed with their fried carrot cake. Think the carrot cake supplier has changed. Others dishes still maintain their standard.

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Hope they can change back the carrot cake supplier

Ci wen vegetarian - a great cheater

Purposely went there (from Jurong) as Headline photo showed "Rojak" but they didn't sell this before..erhhhn?? So no choice tried a Claypot Noodle and a plate of mixed veg rice. It turned out noodle was served in a aluminium pot (adversely different from stall photo on signage). When asked, "chef" said it all along like this. The mixed veg rice serving was too cold (I think been cooked over 4 hours & probably not fit for selling). To avoid altercation just tuck in. After finishing meal drank a 500ml water but still feel so thirsty. I think the stall used a tonne of salt & mono sodium glutamate. I had never felt so thirsty so immediately. I have to black out this stall on my list and wrote this to warn others about it. BTW this app only permit awarding 2Stars..whereupon my original is no star at all..😂

Pros: Lots of MSG

Cons: MSG & Salt is cheap so add more

Fried items were good

I ordered the veg chicken rice and tahu goreng at around 11am just before the lunch crowd.

I'm not sure if they do this for every order but the mock chicken was freshly fried and it went very well with the chili sauce.

The tahu goreng comprises of 2 pieces of pan-fried tofu unlike most places which use a single bigger piece of tofu. The good thing about using 2 smaller pieces is that you get more of the crispy skin around the tofu. The sauce for the tahu goreng was a bit too sweet/sour for me though.

Some items contain eggs.

Pros: Both mock chicken and tahu goreng were well fried

Simple, affordable food

Most vegetarian stalls selling Chicken Rice only offer it in the morning or afternoon, at Ci Wen Vegetarian Food they offer Chickenless Rice ($3) daily from 8am-11pm

Great Zhi Char

Been a customer for more than 20 years, since their days at AMK Central. Great zhi char at low prices. My favourites are oyster omelette, chicken rice, xin zhou mi fen and char kway teow. Taste may vary a little on different visits but mostly great.

Delicious Vegetarian and Vegan Food

I've been eating at this stall for the last 7 years, (incl 2 previous locations). They have a great variety of local dishes, and if you specify that you are vegan they are happy to make dishes without egg etc. The highlights are chicken rice, mee goreng, black kway teow, and fried rice. The couple who run it are lovely and friendly.

Pros: Local Food, Variety , Friendly

Cons: Can be very busy at times.
