Absolutely loved it - Edit
We arrived to Kyoto with my girlfriend last night, wanted to eat in the morning and this was the closest vegan restaurant. Turned out great, if you’re vegan and want to have different options it’s your place!

One of the best curries I've had in Japan. They have a huge vegan menu and additional services available besides food. They also have an array of vegan cheeses.

Not worth the money - Edit
We had the pasta for 1400 yen, but honestly the portion size was disappointing. The pasta was lacking flavour due to the absence of salt in the recipe. The cafe itself looks really nice and cosy but I would not recommend spending your money here as we have been in many places around Japan and Kioto where the portion sizes and quality of the food are much better.
Read morePros: Nice cosy cafe, Probably good cafe for a coffee

Super dry pancake - Edit
The pancake was so dry and not tasty. We asked for an extra as it was so dry, and they wanted to charge 100 yen for it. This is my second time coming here and the first time was not a good experience either. So this will be our last time here.

oh the "cheese"😄 - Edit
We have mixed reviews. We went for dinner one evening and they gave one of my friends something slightly different and then charged the price for it which was higher than what he'd initially ordered. For my other friend and I it was not clear from the menu whether rice was included or not so I asked (in Japanese) and we were told it was included so we said we each wanted rice (we were ordering separate dishes anyway) but then they only brought us one. I asked again (still in Japanese), this time it was a different server, and again we were told it's included, so we asked about the second portion of rice and they brought it out to us, but then we were charged for both of them! I told them of all the errors on the bill and they adjusted the amount we owed. The dishes we'd order were nothing special, the service was also nothing special, and then with the mistakes mentioned above we were far from impressed.
Read moreOne of the friends and I went back again the next day because we wanted wine and dessert and we were in the area. This was much better. Then we decided to try the cheese platter. You have an option of three, four, or five kinds of cheese, but you can't choose which ones you get. We tried the one with five and I liked two of them a lot, that I bought one of those as a takeaway, it was so good! They don't have all of them available for takeaway. The cheese platter doesn't look that great (though the cheese is good), they should really work on their presentation of it.

Tasty, but expensive. - Edit
Pretty restaurant. Easy to find.
Read moreHad a glass of the organic red wine which was lovely.
The cheese board was so delicious, but tiny..and no where near enough crackers (you can purchase extra).
Mains were nice. Would have been nice to have gluten options for burgers and pastas, as we all know gluten free bread isn't always the best.
Had the rice milk soft serve for dessert. It was pleasant, but nothing to write home about.
Our waiter was annoyingly attentive. Clearing up plates before we'd even finished meals, taking the menu away after we ordered starters, etc. I know it may be a cultural thing..but it made the experience a bit less relaxing.
Pros: Entirely vegan restaurant. Yummy food. Free WiFi.
Cons: Expensive. Overly attentive waiter.

Awesome breakfast - Edit
Stopped by for breakfast.
Read moreAesthetics: clean mixed with lots of wood and green. Very cute spot.
Food: so delicious. I wish I had their recipe for the "egg" sandwich. My scramble never comes out tasting like that. The coffee was smooth. The pancake was thick, not dry, and came with ice cream, vegan butter, and maple syrup. Salad was fresh and had a semi sweet/ tangy dressing.
Service: very friendly, as seems to be the norm around here. Spoke English. Also free WiFi (also seems to be the norm)
Pros: All vegan

Twice a charm - Edit
Caring, and English speaking staff I visited once and was blown away by a cheese board, and burger. Then I came back and just love the atmosphere... it is possibly a Japanese perspective of the western world, but it is a pleasant reflection if so. On my second visit I had pancakes!:) the staff are still lovely and dinner looks great!

Pricey, good for lunch - Edit
Went for both lunch and breakfast. The breakfast options are limited. I did not enjoy the pancakes. They were “shaped”, dry and did not have much flavor. For lunch however I really enjoyed the sandwich. The homemade cheese is so delicious but be prepared to spend a good chunk of change.

Cozy and neat with delicious food - Edit
The cozy and relaxed atmosphere offered a peaceful retreat from the touristy bustle of Kyoto. All food is vegan and gluten free. I am not usually a fan of heavy vegan cheeses, but Choice's vegan cheese was light and tasty. My quiche and onion soup were delicious and the vegan ice cream was a real treat! Highly recommend.

A Sweet Spot (Pun intended) - Edit
This was a fab place. It’s beautiful and comfortable and the staff was super welcoming and friendly. The pancakes I got were incredible. I didn’t really like the ice cream that came with them because it tasted like rice Chex cereal without sweetness. My husband got the curry and loved it. I wish we could have brought some of their cheese home, but alas... summer in Japan.

The cheese plate is amazing! The nut cheese is made in house, delicious & unlike any other vegan cheese I’ve ever tried before.

So amazing to find an entirely gluten free and vegan spot in Kyoto. The menu was very western, and small portions. We got two meals, two drinks and one dessert for about $70aud. The food was fine, not amazing but still pleasant experience.

Vegan Cheese - Edit
for those people who say "I would go vegan but I can't live without cheese..." ~ bring them a wheel of the Choice Cheese (I prefer the smoky flavor but all are delicious) and show them how delicious cruelty-free can be. It's sold frozen and in a cool pack so can even travel ~

Really, really nice staff and eatery. Very friendly and good menu but slightly on the expensive side. Food was nice and all vegan but the portions could be bigger for the price paid. However, well worth a try if after a light snack. Loads of vegan cheese available 💚
