Especially the buckwheat penne with spinach and chlorella pesto are to mention, also the very dark roasted coffee beans, which make up to something more of a Spanish café solo than an Italian espresso. The double might lift your head literally! Everything else, smoothies and black pizza (a funny optical twist made with bamboo charcoal) was well prepared and tasted pretty good. Also, they have every reason for being proud of their homemade cheese variety.

Choice is a pleasant and reliable place to eat if you want something else than Japanese style food for a change. The menu has some pretty basic options with pizza and pasta’s but while the food is not exceptional, we always leave satisfied.

Sometimes in Japan you just need a break, something easy. This is that. Varied menu, several interesting things (BLACK charcoal-crust pizza), some home-made vegan cheese (try them both!), extremely fresh salad (on the day I went). Whew. Thank you.

Oof, this was our worst meal of our trip. Totally beyond their control, they were sold out of many, many things on the menu by the time we arrived at 1900hr. What we were able to order (quiche, onion soup and stroganoff) was not great. The quiche was the best item - flavorful, nice texture! The onion soup was watery and lacked any real flavor. The stroganoff was not good and I could not shake how much it tasted like ketchup.

Both the gluten free pizzas were delicious, with a crispy base and a fresh tomato sauce. You practically can’t tell they are gluten free! The only downside is that the portion size is very small for the price.

After reading all the reviews we were so excited to try choice. Either everyone else is lying or genuinely have never had good vegan food in their life. We got the stroganoff with rice and a mozzarella pasta. Both were atrocious and we only ate a bite. The cheese board was the only saving grace, even with only 5 crackers. Hi Julialamour I am a regular customer at CHOICE and I am saddened by your use of the word "atrocious" to descrbe my favorite place. CHOICE's food is delicious and subscribes to the very healthy "plant-based whole foods" principles and use minimum oil and salt. Maybe it was too subtle for you? I think it is also sad that you chose to insult over 200 people who have given CHOICE good reviews by saying "they are either lying or have never had good vegan food". Like the other guy says, taste is subjective and you can't attack the place or the people who wrote good reviews before you just because you didn't like it. Just imagine how you would feel if someone else attacked your favorite restaurant and your reviews.

Choice is an all-vegan restaurant located a short walk from Sanjo station in Kyoto. We had tried their delicious vegan cheeses before, and were ready to sample some of their other dishes!
The restaurant is spacious and fancy-looking, with fancy prices to match. We ordered the cheese platter to share, along with a cheeseburger for me and salad soba for Ryuji.
The cheese platter was delicious and fun to eat, but the real star for me was the cheeseburger. The gluten-free bun, while not being like any other bun I’ve had, was surprisingly good too. I’d happily order this again. Ryuji really liked his salad soba too.
All in all, though it was a little expensive, we really enjoyed our meal here. Check it out when you’re in Kyoto.

Very laid-back atmosphere, beautiful interior, super friendly and attentive service and very delicious organic vegan food. Don't miss out on trying their home made vegan cheese! They are also one of the few vegan places in Kyoto to open early and have a breakfast menu as well, so this is a great spot to start the day.
