Generous portions

Been here a few times, it’s always good. Often busy. The portions are generous!
Sometimes the service is slow, depending on the day.

Yum!

I'd been wanting to go for months and months and finally made it. We ordered from the separate vegan menu and shared 3 dishes between two people. We ordered the aubergine dish, the tofu and black fungus and the salt and pepper tofu. All of it was absolutely delicious. Not healthy, but sooo yum!
I will definitely be back.

Pros: Amazing prices, Entire vegan menu, Tofu, tofu, tofu

Mixed experience

We visited on our last night in Sheffield and shared the fried tofu in sweet and sour sauce and mixed vegetable curry, with rice, chips and a curry sauce for our 5 year old, from the separate vegan menu.

The sweet and sour was very flavourful, with perfectly cooked tofu and rice, but the mixed vegetable curry was a little bland and salty. The chips were far too salty as well.

Staff were welcoming and interior is nice, just a shame the food was a bit hit and miss.

Fantastic!

We absolutely loved this place. We ordered much too much food, 5 dishes between two (thinking it would be small dishes and we were hungry), 2 or 3 would have been enough! Mapo tofu, flat beans and shredded potato were our favourites. We hadn't remembered from the other review that there's a separate vegan menu and weren't offered it, but veggie choices were marked clearly and it was obvious what was vegan and plenty of vegan choices. We've been to Szechuan places before and it isn't always easy finding vegan options, usually there are very few and it isn't always clear, whereas this was different - and the food was particularly good! Also unlike some places, not every dish was massively spicy (we love spice and some were very spicy, eg the beans, but it's good to have contrast). A bit of a treat both in atmosphere (bright decor but felt date-y) and definitely in taste. Not the cheapest but worth it (and we did order too much! Which they offered to pack up for takeaway.) We definitely want to go back if we're in Sheffield again! Our favourite place we ate, along with Tigs.

Pros: Delicious food, Lots of vegan options

Cons: Weren't offered vegan menu (if there is one still)

Hidden Gem

We went to China Red with omni/veggie friends who eat there regularly - we were pleasantly surprised to find a separate vegan menu and delighted with how tasty and fresh our food was.
We tried the Mapo Tofu, stir fried flat beans with chilli, braised aubergine in a sourly sauce, salt and pepper shredded potato, and stir fried pak choi with Chinese mushrooms.
All the main dishes came in large portions which we shared among us with rice.
When we ordered the waitress informed us that the pak choi was usually made with oyster sauce and suggested substitutions.
Overall the mains appeared to be priced on average around £9-£12.50 - this was extremely reasonable considering the portion size.

Pros: Range of vegan options on separate menu
