pita & burrito style med food - Edit
They have you pick your main feature (tofu, soy curls, crispy cauliflower, etc.), then select what format you want to eat it in: burrito, pita, plate, etc.
Read moreHad the Shawarma burrito-style and Schnitzelonim pita-style.
All the ingredients and flavors were fresh and tasty. The pita format didn't work great. It was overstuffed with bland dry components on top and wet flavorful components on the bottom. It was too large to pick it up and eat it in another direction, so there was no way to eat it with a good mix of components in each bite.
Overall pretty good. Will just avoid the pita style time.

try the malawach! - Edit
Love the quirky vibe. Very busy Sunday morning. Shared waffles and malawach: puff pastry with oyster mushrooms and onion filling, and hashbrown and salad. Was incredible. A bit oily but super comfort food. Staff was hurried, not very friendly, but again, it was quite busy. I would definitely recommend that malawach!

Amazing selection and great food - Edit
The baba ganoush and chickpea fries were perfect. I shared food with family so got to taste bits of everything and I liked most dishes. The lions mane burrito came out cold so was not my favourite but almost everything else was super nice

Food was super delicious. We had the chicksteak burrito and the shawarma burrito. The burritos were pretty big and packed with salad, rice and protein. You won’t have room for much else!

Great food, unethical business practices - Edit
Their up charges for order amendments are terrible. I’ve been charged extra for asking them to leave off a side, and I’ve been charged double for an order change less than 3 minutes after I made it on a delivery app. The service in the restaurant is not much better, they really seem to hate their customers. It’s a shame cause their food is pretty good if a bit greasy.

VIBE - Edit
I don’t know if I’ve ever been in such a good mood at any other resturant ever but the music they played here on the night we came lifted me up like no other. All Black Eyed Peas and then switched to Rihanna… I was LIVING. 90’s bangers make me so happy. So in turn, the whole experience was great because my mood was great. What we got food wise was very good and all the employees on shift were so chill. It was so nice having a GOOD baklava after 8 years of being vegan. It used to be one of my favourite desserts.
Read moreThe atmosphere is cool and the wall mural has Bojack Horseman vibes which is a cool look for a vegan place, not your regular cookie cutter place. All the different options for dishes are very interesting and a big menu!

Edited to add after being here a couple more times, this place is amazing in every aspect. The food is incredible, the vibe is so chill, everything is so great. We LOVE Chickpea!!!

Best vegan Egg! - Edit
The tofu egg was amazing, really good on the Latke Benechick. The Omelette was okay. The fries were small cutand super crispy, flavored perfectly. The brunch dishes are huge for one person though, and while delicious, extremely greasy. Would recommend sharing one between 2 people, and getting something else on the side.

Burnt, Not Charred - Edit
I came here with a friend who had a serious dairy allergy. He was so excited to have a grilled "cheese" sandwich and said he would go back. I had a breakfast platter, which was good, but over fried. The batter was on the verge of being burned and didn't quite taste right. They also badly burned one side of my latkas and tried to hide it by turning it face down.
Read moreThe service was pretty bad, the guy serving us gave us a song and dance about how it's charred not burnt. I left feeling not great as I was forced to contend with a meal that was quite over cooked. Also, I felt kind of crappy after being talked to like that.
Aside from the food and service, the dinning room was kind of neat. It's really casual and has an upcycled vibe, it also had these long hanging string of heart and pothos plants acting as a dividing wall.

Delicious - Edit
The food here is delicious. There’s a lot of deep fried stuff but overall you can make it healthy by ordering the salad option or the rice bowls and they have plenty of options that aren’t deep fried. They have lots of gluten free options and their hummus is amazing. They have all day breakfast and the portions are typically massive. I would’ve given this place 5 stars but it has one thing in particular that makes it impossible. The service is terrible. I’m not going to elaborate on that too much but basically the service is inattentive and lazy. One other new addition that is unfortunate is that they’ve raised the prices beyond what I would consider to be reasonable. My favourite breakfast item only a few months ago was $17 and now it’s $26. You get a lot of food but the prices will now stop me from visiting there much more frequently. I’m worried they may have to shut down due to the prices going up so much and less people coming in. That would really be tragic because this place is a must try for inventive vegan food that isn’t just trying to mimic omni food.

Ohhhh myyy goooddd. Every time I took a bite I moaned with pleasure. [censored] was bomb af…was with my fam got 4 different dishes. The lox, the latkes, chickpea fries and the cauliflower. Let me tell you about this cauliflower, salivating. I would be willing to gain hundreds of pounds if I got to eat this 3 meals everyday. Worth every Canadian dollar. Cinnamon Maple Latte was also amazing 🤤

Breakfast menu ROCKS - Edit
I had eaten at Chickpea two times previously and just ate off their lunch/dinner menu. I left both times not feeling great… seemed like there was something off in terms of flavor and quality. Decided to give it another chance as a friend highly recommended their breakfast, so I had the latke benedict and my partner had the omelette. Both were absolutely delicious and SO much better than what I had previously off their lunch/dinner menu. The portions at Chickpea are massive so I usually end up having two meals out of it and the benedict still tasted great reheated. Would definitely go back for breakfast!

Fantastic dinner … brunch not so much - Edit
We stopped at Chickpea for dinner. It was great! We started with labaneh and hatzilim with a side of pita bread. The labaneh was good, but the hatzilim was a bit if a miss because of how acidic the lemon was. For a main dish we had the hatzilim baladi with rice. It was excellent! So flavourful. For dessert we had the lumberjack baklava, which was baklava and vegan carmelized banana ice cream. Not a combo I would have ever thought of but it definitely works. Because dinner was so good we returned on the weekend for brunch. We ordered the latkes benechick and it was a bit of a let down. It was a huge amount of food, but very greasy. I won’t rule out trying brunch again, but I would not order the latkes next time.

One of my favorite restaurants - Edit
I first came here in 2019 when visiting from Washington. I got the Waffles and was so impressed by how good they were as well as the ambiance in the entire restaurant. I went back a couple months later and got the Shawarma Hummus Plate style. This is hands down the best thing I've had there. I loveeee soy curls and the way they prepare it so it's flavorful and juicy yet still crisp? love it. I like it Hummus Plate style because whatever main you get warms the hummus and it just melts in your mouth. I just went back for the first time in years a couple days ago as it was as good as I remembered! I did get the Shawarma served Platter style, which i didn't enjoy as much because I realized I don't like the chickpea fries and i'm basically paying extra money just for those. Also, to top it all off the drinks here are so good. They have a seasonal water Kefir, the flavor I had was called fruit jam and it was divine. Highly recommend you check this place out. I am always raving about it to my friends

The Chickpea fries are sensational - Edit
I had an amazing meal at this restaurant! The Chickpea fries and sauce were a flavor explosion, and the Chicksteak was ridiculously delicious. The Calamachick pita was tasty, but a quick mushroom sear would've made it perfect. Portions are huge, so get ready for a big first bite!
