Love Ethiopian

Ordered through UberEATS and went with the special veggie combo. Everything was tasty. My favs are the collards and the spicy red lentils

Has wheat free injera

Excellent fresh vegetables used in large vegan platter dishes. Has wheat free injera available. Unfortunately lots of animal dishes make the small restaurant fill with smell of beef, etc but can sit outside in front of or behind restaurant to try and avoid that.

One of the best Ethiopian food I'll ever had!

Chercher offers very high quality Ethiopian cuisine with several full vegan options. I took the Deluxe dish composed of 4 or 5 different items served with the traditional pancake (injera). Everything was excellent and super hearty. I didn't manage to finish even though I would have liked to. The staff is nice and the place is relatively quiet. It's better to reserve before or arrive early to have a seat. A place to test absolutely!

Pros: amazing food, big portions, friendly staff

Cons: not 100% vegan

Delicious

I ordered the vegan plate (large). It came with 4 different dhal, all with different flavor profiles, green salad, cabbage/carrot dish and a green bean dish. Make sure you wash your hands when you enter, as there is no cutlery. The teff bread it came with was light and oil free. I ate as much as my stomach could hold. It was fabulous!

Pros: Vegan plate, Tasty, Low oil

Yummy!

Found this place while looking for an Ethiopian restaurant without even looking on happy Cow and then were extremely happy about the many vegan options. I shared the Deluxe Sampler with a friend. We got more injera after we finished the first plate. It was SO good and filling even though it might look like a dish for one person at first sight.

Omg. I’m so happy.

I’ve eaten Ethiopian once before and was meh. My husband was getting takeout next door, so I said why not. I’m so happy I did! I got the deluxe sampler and first it was delicious, second it was so much food. I now have lunch for tomorrow too.

Fantastic food, great price

I'm relatively new to Ethiopian food (I've only eaten at one other Ethiopian restaurant, in Las Vegas), but I can tell that this restaurant is a cut above the rest. I got the vegan sampler with 7 different options, which is way too much food for one person! I think you could get the Deluxe option (10 items) and split it evenly between two people and be quite satisfied in the end. I will be back (and apparently so have Michelin, Zagat, the Washingtonian, and others!).

Pros: Clearly labeled vegan options, Good value, Cute space

Cons: Dirty/breaking menus, Spotty service, Not handicap accessible

Vegan platter

Ethiopian food is good and filling, but sometimes it’s not what you want. This place helps make it what you want because the seasonings are balanced and the food is as fresh as stewed items could appear to be. They have the shiro chick peas and yellow split peas - probably the two best dishes. There’s also greens (collard) and a salad, and some cabbage cooked gently with ginger and turmeric in the sampler. There’s also other lentils (green) with a mustard hint, some lentil filled pastries and beets that can be something tasty for your palate.

The place is small, but it’s got a lot of people coming and going, so it feels even more crowded but homey. The location is out of the way with few other things to do nearby.

The one thing I didn’t like was watching all the meat and the carving of a big animal body part in the kitchen- made me feel less hungry.

Pros: Vegan sampler , Real teff injera

Cons: Meat is around and noticeable

BEST ETHIOPIAN IN D.C.

Seriously, I've been to nearly a dozen Ethiopian restaurants in D.C., and this is the best one by a mile.

They have their own vegan menu with several entrees. I recommend the 'Super' or 'Deluxe' vegan sampler, where you get either 7 or 10 different dishes respectively.

Only complaint is that the service can be quite spotty, and you may need to get their attention for refills, check, etc.
