Very accommodating - Edit
A rarity: during a business trip, this time I managed to eat something (usually I just starve for two or three days in a row, unfortunately I’m used to that) 🥹
Read moreThe Indian restaurant they took us to last night had indeed a separate vegan menu, but unfortunately everything already contained onion and chilli in the curries (I’m intolerant to both) so they managed to make these two things from scratch just for me 🙏🏼
It's not much, but I appreciate it SO MUCH, in fact I owe a special thanks to Kendra, Phani, Raju and the chefs! ☺️

Excellent South Indian food, with a separate vegan menu - Edit
We had a family meal at Chennai Express, with four vegetarians and one vegan in the party. Not only was there a separate vegan menu available on request, but the server was very helpful in pointing out which of the dips served with the papadams were non-vegan (only the mint one, for reference).
Read moreThe quality of the food in general was excellent, and the portions were very generous. We were told that all of the food, including the delicious ginger ice-cream dessert, was freshly prepared on site.
We visited mid-week, and the restaurant was fairly busy. I imagine it's worth booking ahead of time, especially at weekends.
A very enjoyable dinner.
Pros: Entire vegan menu, Excellent food, with plenty of veggie options, Informal atmosphere
Cons: Nothing I can think of!

Loads of menu choices - Edit
You need to ask the servers as they don’t have a separate vegan menu but loads of the items can be made vegan.

Dosas! - Edit
Great service, lovely people and atmosphere, the most amazing crispy, flaky dosas filled with masala potatoes and served with 3 dips (see pic). Idlis (fermented rice and lentil steamed buns) are also very, very good. More food than we could comfortably eat for not a lot of money. Highly recommended.

Really nice restaurant with authentic good food. This is coming from an Indian who has very high standards of what South Indian food should be like!

Authentic Curry - Edit
I would have walked by this place on the way to Festival Place but the smell of amazing curry drew us in. They clearly mark on the menu what has dairy in it so you know what is vegan friendly. I was very happy with what I ordered, aubergine and okra dishes. I would definitely return.

A perfect find - Edit
I visited on a whim and can honestly say I was not disappointed. The only reason that I’ve scored 4 is it’s not a fully vegan restaurant. The food was incredible with lots of choices, the staff were really friendly and accommodating. If you’re looking traditional southern Indian food this really is the place for you! I would recommend the vegan veg Manchurian dry and onion pakoda. Don’t miss out on this place when in Basingstoke 👌

Great south Indian food - Edit
I've eaten at a few good vegetarian south Indian places (like saga and woodlands in london) and this place really gives them a run for their money. There are now a great many vegan items marked on the main menu (in the restaurant - sadly not on their website yet). You can get most of what you'd want from a south Indian like dosa, vada, idly, thalis etc. If you've never yet tried South Indian then i highly recommend it, it's a bit different to standard Indian food and just as flavorful and spiced and comforting but with a few extra interesting textures.
Read moreThe dishes are small and cheap so but a few and share to try a bit of everything.
Pros: Great selection of vegan dishes
Cons: Could make a few more dishes vegan.
