Amazing, authentic food!!! - Edit
Chennai Dosa is a little piece of heaven, right here on earth.

It's proper South Indian food in the middle of Berkshire. It most certainly is NOT a curry house so if the anglicised style of 'Indian' food is what you are looking for find a McCurry restaurant :) What Chennai Dosa does do is serve amazing dosas with accompanying chutneys for very reasonable prices (and they sell beer as well!) OK they also sell meat dishes so if you're a member of the Vegan Police you will likely disapprove but the taste and quality of the huge Vegan and Veggie offerings is so good that this in no way bothers me.
When I visited out of about 25 diners I was the only one not of Indian descent; that should tell you a lot.
Worthy of 5 stars but HC won't allow as they are not pure veg.,
Pros: Amazing Food, Great Prices, Beer!
Cons: Communication was a little 'awkward' at times

shouldn't be on happy cow - Edit
I think this place should be taken off the listings as they have no idea what vegan is. We had 3 different waiters all come over and tell us conflicting information so we decided to go elsewhere. After seeing a sink full of vomit in their toilets we thought that was a good decision.

Tasty, often fast and always exceptional value - Edit
Good for south Indian classics, with most of the vegetarian options being vegan. All dishes are medium to hot, so not great for kids. Also not much in the way of green or fresh vegetables. However, the flavours are great and the dosas and utapams perfect.
Read moreI'd seriously recommend the Gobi Manchurian as a side dish, and the Special Masala Dosa, Capiscum Utapam or Chana Battura as lovely stand alone meals for about three quid each. There's also an amazing curry full of whole garlic cloves - surprisingly delicious.
The buffet is ok for veggies/vegans if you are very hungry, but usually better value to go for something off the menu.
Centrally located a short walk from the main shopping street and station, and next to Central Library.
Pros: great value tasty dishes, open long hours in central Reading, quick for lunch
Cons: little in the way of vegetables/greens, bright lighting - no romance
