Quick, healthy and delicious meal - Edit
Chaya is our go to in Tokyo for a quick dinner and some shopping for home curry.
Read moreThe vegan plate is always delicious, and features brown rice.
The desserts are a must, and we often do takeaways for them!
Chaya makes pouches of vegan curries and dishes that you can make at home. They're sold in some supermarkets but buying it at the restaurant allows you to see the full range. The vegan mayo is also a must buy for us, as it's hard to find anywhere else in Japan

Great healthy meal - Edit
Food is delicious and healthy. The mock meat was good and I wish they had it to go too. Was very pleased with my plate. This is not a vegan cafe, but most of the menu is vegan.

So fresh and delicious! I found this place on my last day in Tokyo and wish I had known about it sooner because it had so many vegan and gluten free options.

Lovely healthy food - Edit
Mainly vegan, everything is clearly labelled.
Read moreLots of yummy veggies and nice desserts.
It’s a nice place for a slightly fancy but casual lunch or dinner before/ after going to the one of the fabulous movie theatres in Hibiya or Ginza. ( But also a comfortable place for solo diners). On B. 2 floor, easy to find. Reliable opening hours. They also have lunch/dinner boxes/ cakes and some packaged items available for takeout.

The cakes were relatively small for the price, but it was great to enjoy our desserts after dinner. Lemon soy cheese cake was so good.

Meh, but bonus points for the little store - Edit
A bit hard to find as it’s in a hotel(?), not the coziest vibe and the service was brusque. The food tasted like it had been sitting around all day (probably was). Also not as many vegan options/not as clear as you might expect. They had a small store with vegan/macrobiotic Chaya packaged products though, like curries and a bunch of flavors of butter cookies.

Chaya natural and wild - Edit
Would get 5 stars If I could.absolutly delicious. The amount of getables on my plate was amazing. Japan seems to use fresh vegetables quite sparingly so it was a great fulling meal I recieved.

The restaurant was in the basement of a building, relatively easy to find. The staff and service were all nice and I was able to order even without speaking Japanese.

Pleasant surprise! - Edit
You can definitely tell you’re in one of the ‘nice’ areas of Tokyo here. Although in a department store basement level, chaya is a lovely little restaurant. I think the menu must change seasonally as I wasn’t able to find on the menu a tempeh burger that I’d read about in another review.
Read moreNonetheless, I had mix plate where you choose three ‘deli items’ (hot or cold), and it’s served with a small soup, brown rice, and a vegetable/fruit juice shot.
All in all this was really tasty! I wasn’t expecting too much (I don’t think the menu really ‘sells’ the meals), but I enjoyed everything.
You can also buy cakes and other items to take away. A great find.

Lovely! - Edit
Went for lunch here today. Lovely staff but not much English spoken, which is fine of course but just be prepared if you don’t speak much Japanese! They also kind of insist you have a set menu for lunch here which is a little annoying but I chose the vegan avocado and kale taco bowl with a side of deep fried soy cutlet (tasted like fish!) and a delightful little strawberry shortcake for desert which was divine. Really enjoyable and would definitely come back. The menu is mostly vegan as others say, I also visited the FAQs on their website and they make it clear that the only thing they use is fish in some dishes, I.e no other meat, dairy, egg, etc.
