Nice neighborhood spot

The menu wasn't marked but the staff are knowledgeable about vegans and knew which menu items were vegan. I had a lovely black lentil dish.

Vegans can find delicious food here!

Most likely, vegans or vegetarians are contemplating a meal here because a meat-eater acquaintance wants to dine here. But the vegan options make this place a destination in its own right (if you can get past the meat-centric menu). The carrot tartare is sooo good, any guests I bring here frequently question if it's really vegan (it's legit, I promise). The winter roasted parsnips "seconds" dish is mouth-wateringly unbelievable. The Vegetable (currently a dish featuring squash, lentils, "chorizo" spiced kale, ajo blanco, almonds, and pimentón) is a delicate and delicious full entree. Plus many dishes can be easily modified to be completely vegan: ask for the beets dish without yogurt; ask to swap the patatas bravas aioli with romesco sauce; ask for the shishito peppers without anchovy and aioli. Everyone here is so friendly and welcoming - they will never ever make you feel "less than" for asking about veg-friendly options. Chaval is an amazing gem.

Pros: Delicious food, Friendly staff, Easy to modify dishes

Cons: Expensive, Limited entree options
